  1. Rivernator, the one thing you DON'T want to do is underestimate Mark Loretta. Take it from me because I know the guy personally, he is going to be a real steal for us. Mark can do everything but his with tremendous power, but he will hit his share of homers and he will be a terrific clutch hitter and ballplayer. You can take that to the bank.
  2. No, he will be a better hitter and baserunner. No, no one will ever field the position like Ozzie. He was one of a kind; simply a fantastic shortstop. I paid my way to see him play; the only player I ever went to see just for defense.
  3. River, I recall Ozzie Smith wasn't too big and all he became was the greatest defensive shortstop in baseball history.
  4. One more thing. My prediction is that Loretta is going to look so good at bat, in the field, in the clubhouse and batting in the No. 2 position that the Red Sox are going to want to resign him. If that is the case and Pedroia is still stuck at second it is another wasted year for him. I think he should stay at SS and develop there. I think Gonzo is a one year rental at best and his lack of discipline at the plate and his weak hitting will not be missed after one year. I could be wrong but that is the way I see it.
  5. Mo, Pedroia is no Meredith; this guy is the real thing and a real future Red Sox star at heart. Take my word for it, this guy is going to be something and when he is ready he must be put in the lineup to stay.
  6. Krein, you are not ruining my party at all and you have it all wrong. I AM ONE OF DUSTIN PEDROIA'S BIGGEST FANS, AND I MEAN BIGGEST, AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM BEAT OUT GONZALES AND BE OUR SHORTSTOP. Get it? No, the problem is we don't know if they are going to switch Dustin back to short, which I wish they would, and if they do, they want him to get a little more experience in AAA. I would love nothing better than for Pedroia to have a blowout spring and relegate Gonzo to the bench.. I was never for this signing in the first place.
  7. BF, I can only hope that Gonzales does his job of playing sound defense for us, and isn't just an automatic out at the plate. In the field he should be quite an improvement over Renteria; at the bat I think he isn't going to be much of a hitter for us.
  8. Hey Riverman, later for the filthy language. If you don't agree with a Red Sox fan, fine, but don't live up to the low opinion most of us Red Sox fans have of Yankee rooters. Cano has some talent, no question, but to say he is better than Loretta is loony at best, and ridiculous at worst. If we were all honest with ourselves we would all come to the conclusion that it is going to be a three-team race with Toronto in there as well, and the team that could avoid injuries and play to their abilities is going to win. You have a beef with that summation? Let's hear it.
  9. Anyone who is dumb enough to believe that the human sieve Robinson Cano is a better ballplayer than Mark Loretta ought to have what passes for his head examined. Loretta is still young enough to have three or four more good seasons in him, is a 300 hitter, a sure fielder, and a class act. Cano is none of these things.
  10. Thank you. Done. It was so simple I feel like a fool for not finding it. This is a good board; some real nice guys here. Besides, the trolls we get here know a little about baseball, not like two others I'm on where they come and make complete asses out of themselves. Why is it that we Red Sox fans by and large know so much more about the game of baseball that fans of other teams? Just my opinion mind you, but I think there is a lot of truth to that.
  11. Thanks "J". BTW, is there anyway to get notices on my E-Mail Board when someone on this website is answering one of my posts? I have to come here and find out for myself without any inkling someone has contacted and answered one of my posts.?
  12. Hey guys, I am going to Spring Training the final week of it March 26-April 1. I will be more than happy to report on the goings-on when I get back if you're interested, and will also be willing to give my impression of what I saw. I was able to purchase tickets to two games because that was all they would allow me to buy, which means I have to secure a ticket for another game down there. Hopefully I can before I leave. The team should be close to being in form by the time I get there.
  13. Cal, everything is fine except for Pedroia on the bench. NO WAY IN HELL THAT MUST HAPPEN!!!! He must be playing everyday at Pawtucket at shortstop hopefully, and if ready by mid-season be brought up and inserted into the lineup for the weak hitting and slumping Gonzales. You don't bring a young player like that up to sit. NEVER NEVER NEVER.
  14. Tony, I thought about Santana for Manny straight up and, sorry about that, I reject it out of hand. Think of Ruth and Gehrig. No, David and Manny are quite in that class, but they sure as hell beat any one-two power and RBI punch of any team in baseball. One thing I don't want to see is the Big Papi lumbering his way down to first on another intrenional walk after another this year. With Manny behind him we have no worries about that; without Manny the pressure becomes intense on Tek, Trot, Lowell and Youk to supply power that could knock the off of their game. Later for that.
  15. Riverside, amen to that. Nothing must keep Pedroia out of our lineup. He is quite a prospect and one that combines good hitting and good fielding, speed and a passion for the game. Besides, isn't Gonzo's OBP less than 300? One year and out.
  16. Hey Champ, anything to help out. You have no idea how McCarver grates on my nerves. Did he ever announce Yankee games? I swear, unless I am way off base, he sounded so pro-Yankees during those two playoff series' in '03 and '04. Of course, I could just be paranoid; the Red Sox do that to me, but I really think the guy was biased in favor of the Yankees.
  17. Sorry about that. I erred by posting twice. Hey, though, you have a point. Ever heard of the saying that if you repeat something over and over you start to believe it? Well, every little bit helps if you root for the Red Sox, right. Maybe it will give our team a little edge.
  18. Why do you have to ruin my evening and want me to throw up my dinner by mentioning McCarver anyway. He is a first class blowhard who fancies himself as an expert and is nothing more than a house man to the highest bidder. I vividly recall the 2003 and 2004 ALCS playoffs between us and the Evil Empire and his bias for the Yankees was sickening. I almost believed that he was on Georgie Porgy's payroll. What a putz.
  19. We do.......By two games in the standings; and win the divisional series and on to the ALCS. Then you guys are on your own because I have no predictions beyond this point.

  21. Guapo, switch Loretta and Youk and there you have it. Other than that, I'm in accord. One more thing. I hope on this website we aren't going to be stuck down in the mud with all the trade rumors some people have fashioned on Dirt Dogs and the Red Sox website. We are set for the season; we should be concentrating on Spring Training and getting our team set----not finding ways to trade Manny for this or that.
  22. Beckett, time to alter your future lineup with Marte and Shoppach gone. I agree about Ellsbury, Lowrie, Pedroia, Moss and Pinckney. Those five and our young pitchers are a helluva nucleus and I believe we have enough young players besides these to help put an outstanding team on the team. Then there is FA if necessary.
  23. Dealing with Yankee fanss can do that to you Big Papi, but I got a good laugh at those names so it was worth it on your part to post it. Some of them are real corkers.
  24. I can E-1. Pedroia is going to he a hell of a player; one of the best in the league. I have watched this kid only on TV and I am sold. He has a solid bat, can field very well, runs with abandon and plays with a passion rarely seen anymore. This guy will be a star for us. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this kid hits around 300 when he gets to the Majors as a rookie.
  25. I think you're on to something. Matos could hold the job this year and maybe next until Jacoby Ellsbury is ready after two full seasons in the minors. There is no one who is going to keep this kid from taking over centerfield when he is ready. He might actually be ready before then; he is that good. He is the real deal. The Guardians are asking too much and it is time to tell them to stop inhaling that foul Cleveland air because it is playing havoc with their brains. Call this deal off unless they accept the first package.
