  1. I got in on this late Ted.......was Aceves sent down? That would be terrific news and I would wager that he will raise hell down there because of his demotion and might wind up getting released. To be truthful, though, I hope he goes down there and works his ass off because you never know if we may need a pitcher or two when the dog days hit. It's just too bad Alfredo turned out to be such an *******. Speaking of which I was able to find the ignore button with the help of my friend Italian Stallion. I've got two of them on it and am working to get the third one on. Thank God I won't have to deal with them anymore.
  2. This was the guy I held out the most promise for Juiced. Three years ago he had a blowout summer season in the Cape Cod League after being injured part of his last season at LSU. He didn't seem to be making much progress. Maybe he is now. All I can tell you from where I'm sitting is that either Renaudo, Webster, Barnes or Owens must keep improving so that at least two of them can crack into our rotation in a year or two. We all know by now that you win with solid starting pitching.
  3. Man oh man Stallion you guys are scaring me. I hope all of you are right and this is as easy as they make it out to be but we had better be careful. If we play well we win....that's fine with me but just going through the motions might not get us what we want. We should take this series and I would love the hat trick but most of our wins this year have been hard earned. We still must beat down. Nice to have Clay opening the series for us. BTW, did you get my PM? When I hit the post button I got a blank screen and didn't now if you received it. I put two of the three on ignore but one is not on the list so he is still around.
  4. Have you read some of the posts on the new game thread User started this evening? Wow!!!!! I appreciate their confidence and assurance but I hope the team doesn't go out there thinking it is going to be a cakewalk. As I've said, we're a better team this year but our wins have been hard earned for the most part. One game at a time and no looking too far ahead would be the way I'd go at this. I just hope those guys are right.
  5. Now that's good Youk. That IS funny and, believe it or not, I'm laughing my ass off. I wonder why I even mentioned 1960 since most of the people here might not even have been born then and fewer remember that series. I think I'm the oldest guy around here at 72, so I remember the WS well. The Yankees won three games by wipeouts and the Pirates won four close games to win it all and then the Yankees fired Casey Stengel. This series reminded me of that WS. And notice the Orioles and Yankees lost so we got back that game we lost yesterday.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
  6. Believe it or not Stallion, two of those people who I put on ignore were not on the list of people on the board. Now I wonder where I go from there. They post under those names and the message tells me they are not on the list.
  7. This is embarrassing. I did NOT know where the ignore feature was. I will take you up on that, and there will be no more problems from my end. I will use that feature so I don't have to deal with those three people anymore. Thanks Stallion
  8. No, what would stop me if those personal attacks cease immediately. Who is this moderator you're talkling about? I would like to know because maybe he can stop this pissing contest. I want to talk baseball without being personally attacked. When they stop I will gladly stop. Again USER, anyone on this board has the right to criticize a player or front office person, and in return have someone take on a counter argument without a personal attack. I do not attack someone first . Now can we just move on and talk baseball. That's all I really want to do.
  9. It is more than annoying and that guy knows it and has known it for seven years. Nothing has stopped him from doing it so I went viral. I haven't heard from him since and maybe it worked. Maybe not. Believe me, if he leaves me alone there will be no more problems. All I want to do is talk Red Sox baseball and I'll be damned if anyone is going to keep me from doing. I do not subscribe to turning the other cheek. Some people don;t understand that, but I sure as hell hope that this stuff is now over and we can just talk baseball without any digs or personal attacks. Calling me a Dodger fan is a dig; he knows that.
  10. Hey iortiz, just a word or two of caution. It would be terrific is we could run the tables on the Astros this next series, but it seems too many are taking this next set of games as near sure things. They are not. We have a better team this year, no doubt about that, but our wins don't come easy and we have to earn every one we get with an occasional exception. We need to treat Houston as any rival we play or we may be surprised. If, OTOH, we play to our ability we all be smiling to beat the band come Sunday evening. Close win, nail biter, and scary but a good way to end the A's series. They slaughter us one game, we get them two by close scores and take the series. Reminded me a little of that 1960 World Series between the Yankees and Pirates.
  11. Thanks for the update. I read BR every day. Perhaps I should take the things I hear there with a grain of salt. I do believe, though, that Stanton's days with the Marlins are short.
  12. What impresses me about Webster is that he is not Aceves. Did you see that guy in action last night? As soon as things got touch he unraveled, forgot to cover first base, committed two balks and started throwing meatballs to the plate. He f***ing quit on the team last night. If Lackey can't go this Sunday I would like to see Webster brought up to start that game. He seems to have a good upside and except for two misplaced pitches he did very well on Sunday. And he didn't quit on himself and the team.
  13. According to the Bleacher Report there are six or seven teams interested in Stanton and I think he will be traded either this season or in the off season. He can bring a slew of players in return and some team will make an offer the Marlins can't refuse, especially if what has been said that Giancarlo is pretty upset with things down there. I would be very hesitant to trade our pitching prospects---Webster, Renaudo, Barnes and Owens----ok, even DeLaRosa. The latter might actually be good as a short inning reliever. If we were go along with such a trade we had better be sure that somehow luck is with us and the three we don't trade work out for us.
  14. Yes, it is easy to dsagree as long as there are no personal attacks that accompany them and that has been the problem here. Red Sox players and front office personel are open season and everyone has the right to criticize or attack them if that is their opinion. Those who disagree should counter with a alternate argument as to why that person is wrong. IT SHOULD NOT BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PERSONAL ATTACK. I have been attacked by three or four people on this board and when they attack me I try to attack them back with even nastier retorts. They stop doing it and I stop. As I told Ted, that is the problem here. I may have done this once or twice myself but not recently and I try like hell not to do it anyone and haven't for a long time. I expect the same in return. I can be criticized for being wrong on an issue but when it gets personal I have the right to return the favor and I will. If they stop I will gladly stop.
  15. Wright looked like s*** tonight; no surprise he'd be sent down, but Bard?????? He hasn't pitched worth a damn up in Portland. Why the hell is he coming to Boston? He isn't worth s*** and hasn't since late in 2011. This has to be some kind of sick joke. You on the level with this info?
  16. First of all Wyo, glad to hear your operation went well. Here's to you for a fast recovery and long life. Fortunately for you, that was not a dream you were having. We got the living s*** kicked out of us tonight and right now the Aceves fans are in deep hiding. Hey, everyone can have a bad day but to me it looked like Alfredo just quit on himself and the team tonight. For me, though, I can't replay this game. We just got mashed. I'd rather go this way than lose 2-1 and wonder what the hell we could have done to pull it out. No way we could have pulled this one out except in a dream you didn't have.:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown
  17. Didn't you also predict we would kick Colon's ass tonight? Come on Beatz, you're not exactly on a hot streak right now. For what it's worth, though, I'll go along with you and predict a game and series win tomorrow. BTW, you never told me where in Pasadena you reside? I'm your neighbor....Arcadia.
  18. It is becoming clear that Miller is a heart attack in the making every time he steps on the mound. He can't control his pitches, seldom could, and he has had years to sharpen his skills. My guess is that he is still with us because, 1--Morales and Breslow are injured as we have no other lefty options in the pen, or, 2--he has a guardian angel in the front office. When those two lefties return I fully expect the Red Sox to finally realize what a lot of us here know---that Miller is a sunk cost who should ply his trade in some NL city.
  19. Just to be clear wyo-sox, you don't have to explain your position about Middlebrooks with respect to "panic". That's what this board is for----as you said conversation, and anything concerning the Red Sox is fair game on Talk Sox, or should be. What is not defensible is when someone takes a personal pot-shot at you or someone else because you might have said something they didn't like about a player or front office individual. That's when the personal and nasty exchanges often take place. It can be open season on players and front office personnel, it should never be open season on posters. There was no mistaking your intent from where I sit and personally I appreciate it when a poster weighs in with something is of concern to him.
  20. It may have to come to that Sox Sport. We can't be using up the bullpen the way we have day after day, but keep in mind that Aceves wants to start and he hasn't looked that bad in that role, has he? Actually looked better as a starter than his work in relief. Of course we wouldn't even be having this conversation if Mortensen and Miller would be pitching better or if our two injured lefties on the DL were healthy. Lackey ought to be back soon and there is always Webster down at Pawtucket, so it's not as if we don't have other options. Aceves' attitude seems to be better now and I wonder if starting has anything to do with it. Pitchers have comfort zones just as hitters do and I get the impression that Alfredo likes starting and it is something the team and him and are going to have to work through.
  21. A few personal observations from what I've been seeing in the first 19 games---admittedly a very small sample. The bad news is that right now we are not a divisional championship team. The good news is that no one else in the division is either. In other words, the AL East is now wide open just as Jacko and 700 Hitter said it would be. For us to make hay we need Lester and Buchholz to keep pitching like the best one-two pitching punch in the division, getting our third and fourth starters to win more than they lose, to give the bullpen a breather now and then, and to get some of our guys hitting to help those who are doing the job----Napoli, Victorino, Pedroia, Ells and now Papi. This is so much better a team to like a root for than the one we endured last season that it is hard to even believe they are the same team. The same name, not the same team.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
  22. Pretty good, yes Pal, but I still think he has to cut down on his walks and the number of pitches he throws. The amount of pitches he deposits up to the plate has a direct bearing on our bullpen. He went deeper this time out but somewhere along the way we need him to go a clean seven or eight and cement down that #4 spot. The more we have to depend on the bullpen the better chance we have of seeing Andrew Miller and Clay Mortsensen and I'm afraid I don't have much confidence in those two.
  23. The last two seasons Nava has started out fast and then faded, not tragically but faded nonetheless. I think this is a case where his experience has made him more confident and able to read pitches better than in the past. No, he is not a Hamilton. Josh is capable of hitting over 40 homers and driving in 130 runs, not to mention hit for a solid average. Didn't he win the batting title a couple of years ago? It is unfair to Nava to make such a comparison since Josh has a tremendous natural talent advantage over him. If Nava can maintain a consistent pace this season, say hit around 290with about 15 homers and 65-70 RBI's we ought to be fine with that. Of course, that also means other like WMB, Pedroia, Napoli, Papi and Shane must hit up to par themselves.
  24. Well said Jung and I agree with you. I also don't think Bard would have been a great closer either because when he went bad he really hit the skids. April and September 2012 are glaring examples of that. Still it was hard to fathom just how far he fell so fast.
  25. Wyo, in a word YES---they will. It might take a little more time for Drew but remember he missed most of ST with that concussion. WMB should get it going in a couple of more games.
