The fact is we have another dugout dud as a manager and a carbon copy of FrancoMa's "I DON'T WANT TO LOSE HIM" idiocy that has plagued us the past few years. From Farrelcona"s own words he said just two days earlier that Bailey would only be used in low leverage situations. Yeh, right!!!! There have been too many cases the last few years where is has become the function of the manager to "save" the spirit of a player at the expense of the team we all saw that yesterday. The result is the team has gotten hurt badly because of managerial stupidity. Just keep in mind that while Farrelancona was managing Toronto they has two years worse than the two preceding him. We have a real mediocrity dugout dunce in our midst and I don't care who likes hearing it or not. We now should be four games ahead but the guy cost us two games in Detroit and four in the last two weeks. Our team cannot afford such ineptitude.

6/21 @ Tigers

Saying Lester looks s***** Station is actually a mild rebuke. The guy has become a total turd on the mound----and why the hell isn't the coaching staff telling him to shitcan that cutter of his. It doesn't cut anything but our chances of winning with this shitbag on the mound. I notice Lester is like the 1000 pound gorilla in the room with no one wanting to say the obvious for fear it might make him pitch even worse. The guy now stinks out there and unless he either gets his s*** together or is taken out of the rotation we are in for a tough time. -
Well you know SoxSport why this is always done. Like FrancoMa, this guy, Farrellancona doesn't "WANT TO LOSE HIM". Farrell is a mediocre manager and many of us said this when he was hired. Perhaps ownership saw something special in him.....like he could be controlled and wouldn't rock the boat. It couldn't be his managerial acumen. He showed how inept he could be in Toronto.

6/20 Red Sox @ Tigers

Well you know the old standby our managers use....I DIDN'T WANT TO LOSE HIM. More concern for soothing a particular player's feelings that concentrating on what will help us the most IN WINNING A f***ING GAME. To me I've decided to start calling the manager John Farrelancona, two peas in a pod. -

RS305, I see that I'm not the only one on this board who has smoke coming out of his ears today. I predicted on another board that this loss last night could break us for the season, so devastating a loss it was. As for our Yankee friend, keep in mind that he IS, after all, a Yankee fan and would never any more feel sorry for us as we are when the Yankees go down to defeat as they did last night. As for Papelbon, you heard it here first......Mariano retires after this season and the the Yanks make a trade for, you guessed it, Papelbon. Meanwhile we have to bury Bailey so deep in s*** that he can never hurt our team again. -

Farrell is starting to remind me of FrancoMa more and more every time I see and watch that son of a bitch. What the f##k is he thinking? Is it more of "I DONT WANT TO LOSE HIM" s***? I had enough of that from Tito. Bailey must not close again PERIOD and I don't want to hear any Pollyanna ******** to the contrary, not the way I feel right now. This loss is going to be devastating and I am of the belief that it may be the beginning of our collapse. There is no more crushing the hope of a team if you have a closer who can't close games and turns wins into defeats as that f***ing Bailey has been doing. Get his ass out of that position Farrell, you filthy rotten no good son of a bitch. Sorry guys and gals, but I just had to get this off my chest. -
Well it's usually after we win. I never get comedic when we lose as you probably now since you seem to have me pretty well pegged.

6/19 vs Rays Devil
seabeachfred replied to Station 13's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Station----We haven't been too proficient in sweeping series the past few years until we did it a couple of times this season. Then again, we never seemed to win DH for years, only split or lose them......until yesterday. Now we have a team that has learned how to do the hat trick and win twin bills. That's good my friend because with the Orioles beating the hell out of the Tigers today and the Yankees beating the pathetic Dodgers in the first game and most likely beating them in the second, we need to take today's finale to stay on course. Yesterday was a great day for us. Gee, I hope we have a lot more of them from here on in. Let's not lose any ground tonight. We need to keep winning. -
No offense taken User because I don't need you or anyone else to take me seriously. I have a very strong self image, like who I am and have full and complete confidence in myself. Besides, there are numerous times I don't take myself seriously either.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Of course I was wrong about Pedroia too back in 2006 when the lot of you said he would never cut it because he was too small and too frail and we should go out and get Ronnie Belliard from the Guardians play second base. A touch of amnesia on your part on this maybe? I was also wrong about Ellsbury being a better player for our lineup than Coco Crisp in 2007 as well. I remember you and others had a different opinion. Amnesia on that? You were on Dirt Dogs then too, weren't you. I was also wrong about Jed Lowrie when I said the guy was a solid player we needed. Yes, he was injury prone at the time, but guess what? He's turned into a solid hitter and player for the A's. And of course, after ST in 2006 when most likely you and your friends on Dirt Dogs and Sawsheads were saying we needed to give Keith Foulke the closer's job because he had experience, there weren't too many of us on that board who insisted the job be given to Papelbon. You have a terrific case of selected memory Bellhorn, but I've been right a helluva lot more than I've been wrong. Once again, for your edification and that of BSN, I NEVER wrote DLR off; simply said I HAD DEEP RESERVATIONS ABOUT HIM. CAPICE??????
-
With all due respect BSN why don't you read my friggin' post clearly before answering with some hair brained reply. I said I had DEEP RESERVATIONS about Delarosa. I DID NOT write him off. Big difference, right? RIGHT!!!!!! I'll answer for you since I have doubts you will admit that you read my post WRONG. Yes, I am going by what I saw in 2010, and since like you I coached baseball for a long time, I know all about tempo, poise and adjustments on the mount. I SAW NONE OF THAT WITH DLR. Sure he could develop into a standout but I have reservations----which is a helluva lot different than my just writing him off. He could turn into a Papelbon in the bullpen but he could turn into a Delcarmen as well. He could turn into a Beckett (circa 2007) but he could turn into a Drake Britton as well.
-
Or maybe I'm part of a Communist or Fascist conspiracy trying to bring dissension and chaos into the ranks. That had to be one of the silliest posts I've read in awhile BSN. I also am not going by what I hear or read as you do but what I saw with my own two eyes. Yes, he has velocity but so do a lot of young pitchers who never make it. To be a success you need to have the smarts, moxie and capacity to learn and grow. I have doubts Delarosa has those attributes from what I saw. Let's put it this way. I have seen 21-22 year olds show more poise and control of the situations that they're in than Delarosa did. Now if you'll excuse me I'll get to reading Das Capital and Mein Kampf.
-
Your last sentence is an interesting point Youk, but keep in mind that there is nothing more devastating for a team that to have its closer keep blowing games and not be able to successfully close. I personally think that we have to develop one of young guns to take that spot over in the next two years. In the meantime Bailey must have a short leash; to be blunt I don't like to see him in the 9th inning unless we have a three run lead.
-
Every time I say something about De La Rosa I get people on this board upset because they want to believe this guy is the real thing. He may turn out to be just that, but frankly I have deep reservations about him. Oh yes, he' coming of TJS so the story goes he will need time to get his control and stuff in order. I say that in my opinion that is ********. I saw him get repeatedly lit up when he pitched for the Dodgers in 2010. When he wasn't getting hit he was walking people and constantly falling behind batters. If he gets control, no sure thing, he has a good heater and actually could become a potential closer but he is a project. Webster seems to be a better gamble. He has good stuff and his control seems to be fine. For my part, I wish both make it big and DLR proves me wrong. We will need two starters before too much longer.
-
Doubrant!!!!!! He can't get past the fifth inning, walks too many batters and when he blows he blows sky high/ He hasn't done much that could be improved by someone we could get in a trade or a promotion from Pawtucket. Having said that, I hope those people who are still pining for Lee just stop it. He isn't going anywhere.
-
I for one am not going to get carried away. As I remarked to RJortiz, I want to wait until August before I jump on or are allowed on the bandwagon. Having said that, there are some things that have stood out very impressively this season up to now. For one thing, we have managed to win that "rubber" game many times so far, sometimes coming back 0-1 and winning the next two. Secondly, we won some close games on the road, a sign usually of a good team. Thirdly, when we lose the first two games, we have been able to salvage the third game most of the time. None of this happened last year.
-
RJ, glad you are upbeat about the Red Sox but I still have my doubts about this team. I got burned in 2011 and seared last season and am still wiping the embers off if you know what I mean. I would guess there are still a lot of other doubting thomases. Happy to see the Sox doing well but I still have some doubts about the rotation, about a couple of our relievers and our ability to keep hitting consistently. I'm waiting until August before I make any commitments about this team even though before the season I said they would be better than they were last year. How much better? I'll wait until August. Of course, if they are still doing well by then I'll probably be accused by a couple of people of climbing on the bandwagon.:D:D:D:D:D:D
-
Thanks for the shot in the arm Palodios; you're a good guy to have for a colleague here, but be told I am starting to be worried about our rotation. True, it has been just the three of the last four games but I notice the Orioles are getting good pitching (beating the damn Angels again today, 4-2 in the 6th inning), and the Yankees have been hanging in there mainly because of what they have on the mound. What I'm hoping for is a string of solidly pitched games by our rotation and especially a turn around by Lester. He was awful last night and I wonder what's with the guy always complaining to the umpires about missed calls. What do you think of the possibility that the Red Sox will call up Webster and just give him the ball and let him go. I think we need a spark in the starting staff. Then, again, I hope I'm wrong.
-
You would know better than the rest of us since you live in predominantly Cardinal country, and I know exactly where you're coming from. I live in the Los Angeles area and I feel the same way about the Dodgers as you do about the Cardinals. The difference is the Cardinal fans know baseball and are informed but these LA fans are some of the dumbest fans I ever heard of. All you have to do to get a sellout is offer a giveaway prize and they'll bust down the gates to get in for their freebee. But a few of them are starting to boo so I guess that some kind of improvement for them after 55 years of being almost mute. They still don't know s*** about the game, though.
-
You're right on this one User, square on. However, as Dupree said in the post following yours, we most likely are going to need a dependable closer if the one we have doesn't start doing the job on a more consistent basis. With our starting rotation seemingly starting to spring leaks (Doubrant on Saturday, Lackey on Monday and Lester yesterday), a team is hard pressed to slug its way to a title, so when we get a lead in the late innings we have to keep it. OTOH, I wonder if Cherington is on the prowl to see if any starting pitchers may be put up for sale in a month and a half. If so, I hope he is ahead of the game there. All this would be mute if the three aforementioned pitchers had been doing the job on a consistent basis. We can all agree I think, that you win with good starting pitching.
-
Well last night's performance by Lackey could be a red flag in that it might mean he may be losing his edge the way he pitched back in 2011 before he went on the shelf. To me I hope it was a hiccup because we need him badly to perform. As for Webster, he needs to harness his stuff so that he is around the plate more. You're right in that scouts and scouting reports give him high potential marks as they now to do De La Rosa. Needless to say between them, Renaudo, Barnes and Owens, we are going to need at least two of them to step up for us within the next two years.
-
User, I am not angry, not at all.....just passionate and emotional as always. Hell, I've been on a high all day since I found out we pulled out a game I thought we'd pissed away last night. Haven't cussed once when my posts come back with a blank page or this program cannot be found. (have to talk to Youk and EZ about that). Look, I said Iggy is going to come back down to earth; he or no one not named Puig can keep this up. In the meantime I want Jose to stay sharp and contribute and if that means sitting down Drew or Middlbrooks every two or three games, then fine. Besides, I don't think Drew should be in there against lefthanders. Do we at least agree on that? And I hope Lester can keep me on a fairly high cloud tonight. We need that from him.
-
SoxSport, there are some of us who understand that and are strong in our opinions on that matter; some disagree and that is what this board is for.....to express our opinions and be ready to defend them. What it is NOT for is to be attacked personally for our opinions. User can disagree with me all he wants; we have totally different opinions on most things. As long as he tells me he disagrees with me and tells me why, I'm fine with that. I think it has come down to that....that there seems to be a lot more live and let live and to each his own now than there was, say, last season. Of course winning helps in that a lot.
-
That's your opinion. Mine is that is was a slap in the face and that IS MY OPINION and whether you like it or not it will stay that way. If you think that is an extreme opinion fine; we will one again for the umpteenth time just have to be gentlemen and agree to disagree with no personal attack stemming from my opinion. To me, when a guy is hitting in the 400's and then benched for two guys hitting 200 and 234 it is a kick in the ribs and not an inducement for the confidence you have in a player. If Iggy can be in the lineup most of the time, then fine, I can live with it, but to make him a utility player after the way he has performed not only is patently unfair, it is, IMO totally ridiculous and a threat to the young man's confidence.
