nods i agree. a package of lester + ellsbury + masterson and lowrie is a very very fair package for Santana IMO.

I don't have a problem saying it. I did not want A-Rod back and I still don't want him back. He's a phony, very talented, but phony. This does not surprise me the least. If the article's true then he's not only a phony, but also a big time crook. Arrest him and void his contract. -
Losing Hughes would hurt. I don't think it would hurt as much or at all to lose Melky or Kennedy IMO. There will always be guys available in the draft who fall because of potential contract issues, the Yanks will always be there to pick them up.

wow! good deal for the Mets. Too bad Baldelli can't stay healthy or they could go real hard after Haren/Bedard with Carlos Gomez or Martinez as the centerpiece.

I think the mistake being made by those people who are thinking like that is that they forget this isn't the NFL.

I saw the same thing about the $80M...later on the Twins apparently upgraded to $90M by some reports. Perosnally I think the negotiations have to start at $126M and then work from there.

IMO Bucholz>Miller Maybin>Ellsbury (and I love Ellsbury BTW) Bucholz=Maybin so yes, I do think that the 2 packages are an equal package.

Olney and Stark both think Santana to Boston isn't going ot happen anymore according to those watching ESPN2... ok I'm spent...can wejust move on and both teams can agree to egg Bill Smith's house and beat him soundnly with a bat next week? Bill Smith is the biggest tease in the history of the universe. He's the Veronica Lodge of baseball, and the Yanks and Red Sox are the Reggie and Archie of baseball, respectively.

and we could just say as many bad things about your team if we wanted to spin it that way. I could go on about the mediocore performance by your pitching staff against us this year, etc. but I'm really not interested in getting into a pissing match over that. I'm fine with our rotation, I'd prefer to have Santana, but we had the best record in baseball last year after June something, and if not for the game 2 gnats, we probably would have beenn favorites against the Sox in the ALCS considering how we played gaainst you guys during the regular season, so our pitching staff will probably do just fine. -
I think the Sox should ask to include Ellsbury in the Lester package and take back all the other prospects

a rotation of Petite-Wang-Joba-Hughes-Kennedy/Mussina will do just fine actually. We want Santana but the price is just too high. -

UPDATE: Heard EEI is reporting it as finalized. Congrats on the deal, I expect the Sox to be good for at least 2 more championships till the end of the decade. EDIT: With this thing finally over with. I'd rather the Yanks just stay pat and go with what we got. I think Haren is a real good pitcher but while I can somewhat uncomfortably resign myself to trading Hughes for Johan, there's no way I can accept trading hughes for Haren. EDIT 2: Can this be compared to the KG trade? wow

oh I don't doubt that they see those projections. I just don't know why BTW Bowden's name was mentioned but most reports has it now as Masterson.

isn't the whole point of trading for Johan is because of the importance of a #1 guy? If there are two packages and the best player with the best upsdie is in one package and the peripheral components are not that much different, wouldn't you always take the best player package?

I was just aobut to say the same thing about Lowrie being the difference But you know what, I'll give the Twins scouting dept some credit. I mean they got Liriano + Nathan from the Giants for AJ and Liriano's numbers at the time were not blowing anyone away. Maybe they see the same potential in Masterson or Bowden. I don't think it's there, but I will give them some dose of cred. Then again, it's a new GM

Boston's package includes either Matseron or Bowden, the Twins apparently decided that's equal to Kennedy. I don't understand the logic.
