  1. no, you misunderstood me. I wasnt trying to make the case that the Arod deal was a wow deal for Cashman. It was argued that ARod's acquisition was not a good thing and that therefore that made Cashman a worse GM than Theo. My point was that both Theo and Cash were trying to get Arod, both made the same decision to pursue him. That's why you couldn't use the ARod deal as an example if you tried to say one was better than the other
  2. I think most Red Sox fans knows as much about the Yankees as we do about your team. You talk about the Red Sox, you gonna talk about the Yankees, thats the way it is in our self-absorbed East Coast world.
  3. What about the 10 gold gloves?
  4. I'm not sure why you keep bringing up the $200 million. We're discussing Theo's skills here, the Yankees payroll doesn't have any relevance. And you may think your team willl rely more on its farm, but you won't be able to say for sure for another couple of years. If Santanna suddenly decides he wants out, or Halladay, I can guarantee you that your propsects will be available. Thats just the way it is with our teams, we're always in a win now situation, propsects are expendable if it can help us increase our chances for a championship. You don't think Theo would get killed if he decides to kill a Santanna deal because he doesn't want to give up Papelbon?
  5. I'm not disagreeing with the Nash pick. I am simply pointing out that I'm sure there were more than a few writers who saw someone who was different than the Iversons of the NBA world and jumped at the first chance to reward him for it.
  6. The discussion isn't about what you want, it's what Theo wanted, since we're arguing the merits of Theo's abilities compared to Cashman's. And the Yankees are paying him about $16 million a season, since the Rangers gave about $65 million in the trade. http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2003/11/30/dbcol30w.htm The team that Schilling didn't want to goto was the Red Sox. Theo had that dinner with him to convince him to accept the trade. Again, it was only a wow deal because of other factors, namely the hardheadedness of the DBacks front office. Theo's "skills" had nothing to do with convincing the DBacks to take the inferior offer. Robinson Cano is a candidate for the ROY, plus he looked really good in the postseason. And let's wait for a couple of years before annointing Lester and Papelbon as the next Schiiling and Pedro. For a Red Sox fan, you sure aren't very aware of your own team's recent history and lack of dependence on its farm system. Our two teams have always had similar philosophies, it just happens that our owner spends more money than yours.
  7. http://www.jockbio.com/Bios/Ortiz/Ortiz_bio.html credit the Ortiz signing to Martinez's pull on the team. For $1.25 million, you can't say Theo had any sort of idea Ortiz would turn out like this. As for the ARod deal, Theo was trying to get him too, only your owners were too cheap to cough up the extra dough. You can't really use this as a pro-Theo argument. Good to hear about your "excellent" farm system. Now name me two key players on last year's championship team who came up from the farm system. Know who was the best prospect last year? BJ Upton, and where is he now? Having the best farm system is like having the best looking goldfish. You have to see how they do in the pirahanna tank before you annoint them to be anything. On the Schilling trade, that was a simple case of the DBacks being unreasonable with the Yankees as payback for the David Wells signing from prior. Cashman offered the superior package, but the DBacks took the Red Sox inferior offer instead out of spite towards the Yankees.
  8. I tend to agree with the thinking that the Nash MVP was a bit color-skewed. Not necessarily a case of "lets screw the black man and get in the white boy" but along more subtle lines.
  9. Actually yeah, well sort of. Larry didn't complain about whites being underrepresented or what not. They were in a little different context
  10. heh its pretty funny, how we both feel we have to make statements at the end of our posts. We both must fear something =P
  11. Well that just goes back to my point that even though its something that both sides is affected by or notice in their own way, blacks will bring it more to the surface, while whites will not mention it. It's the same approach that Asians take also, which is probably why most whites consider them to be the model minority, since they are like minded in this aspect. btw, in no way am I criticizing anyone who speaks out about racial discrimination. I am merely making observations on people who tend to go overboard with making race an issue in almost everything, from waiting an extra 5 minutes for your order, to noticing the lack of blacks in MLB
  12. I can't see the Falcons ever winning with Vick unless they somehow steal the Ravens defense, and even then, Vick is liable for a 4 or 5 TO day.
  13. they're reporting that he has that option as well. Apparently, george is smart enough to know that if he wants Cashman to stick around for anoother year of bs from his front office cronies, he gotta give him more cash
  14. well, I guess the best comparison to your points would be to ask you would a rich guy notice that he was missing 4 or 5 bux from his paycheck versus a guy on welfare? Marginalized members of society often are much more sensitive to things like that than others. And I do believe most white people have noticed the lack of white people in the NBA, it's one of the biggest reasons for its current status as the 3rd most popular league behind football and baseball. Even if they on the surface don't see it as a problem, the fact is they will subconciously tune out the game because its harder for Joe Public middle aged White Guy to connect with Allen Iverson than Randy Johnson or Peyton Manning. race is always an issue in most things. Its more subtle for white folks, and less subtle for minorities. Again, like I said though, Joe's tone in that article was extremely antagonizing.
  15. LoL. ESPN has been on Patriots dick for so long, I don't know what the hell you ben watching
  16. Speculation in today's newspaper indicates that Cashman is waiting on signing his new contract to help out Theo in his negotiations with Sox management. They're good friends, from what I hear, so I guess this could be feasible. BTW, Cashman is supposedly signing a 4 year $8.8 million deal. No wonder Theo is holding out.
  17. I gotta be honest, I noticed that also. You don't gotta get so mad about it MC, its something that really stands out. If you see a basketball team with 3 Asians and 2 Mexicans in the starting lineup, aren't you going to notice something also? Or an all white lineup, or how about a white cornerback or running back? I notice those things not because I am racist or anything like that, it's just because it's unusual. I do think this issue coudla been approached in a much more uh "Sports Guy" way. Joe Morgan made it seem like a sin, even though theres less blacks in baseball overall. Simmons woulda made me laugh about it while not trivializing the issue.
  18. btw, last night's game was pretty damn good. sigh, I wish they let Stick go buy the groceriesagain without interference from the fat bastards in Tampa Bay.
  19. I don't think Yankee fans ever bothered with White Sox fans.
  20. well if we're going yb teams that havent won World Series, next up is the Cubs turn. 1918-1917-1908 (all the other teams in between have won a title since)
  21. No sweat...I'm really enjoying the Series btw. The White Sox have been impressing the hell out of me since those complete games in a row. I thought the team was lightweight, but they proved me wrong.
  22. heh, pretty intreresting site.
  23. what are you talking about. I am not Riverside sluggers nor some of the other people you been arguing with. I'll ignore your stupid Maier remark if you kindly turn your paranoia elsewhere. I made the reference about Hogan to the comeback fight of the White Sox, not anything about it being fixed.
  24. ??
