  1. First of all match-up strategy should have nothing to do with park factor. It should have to do strictly with talent versus talent. Period. Also comparing natural effects such as snow, wind or rain is an irrelevant comparison. It's not feasible to expect every city to build a dome stadium. What is feasible is to make field dimensions as close to the same as possible, as I said within reason. The two have nothing to do with each other. Why should the Red Sox get to tee away at a wall that is 310 feet away for half of their games? Or why should over the hill DH's get to go to the Yankees and hit 30 home-runs because the of the short porch in right? It's wrong and it doesn't let true talent levels always win out, especially over the course of a 162 game season.
  2. I'm talking about the in game experience. It's different than it was 8-10 years ago, it just is. I'm not saying that it will never go back to the way it was at some point, but for most games I go to during the course of the season, most people seem completely disinterested and would rather be playing with their smartphone rather than following each pitch.
  3. Your missing the point... I agree that dimensions should be the same for all ballparks, within reason. I.E. There should be a standard. Having the green monster is a huge advantage for the Red Sox, and a pretty big disadvantage for the opposing team. Manny Ramirez was a great left fielder at Fenway, that should be proof enough.
  4. I just saw the highlights of Aaron cook. It looked like he was forcing batters to pound the ball into the ground, which is obviously a great sign. Wouldn't it be awesome if he could regain his force from a few years ago? That would make our rotation quite good.
  5. Carlos Silva, I'm sorry to inform you that you are longer part of the competition to become America's next top model.
  6. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/luke-scott-calls-red-sox-fans-arrogant-ruthless-235857102.html Luke Scott hates Boston fans.
  7. The System has been totally unfair for the last 10 years, mainly because of the unbalanced schedule. It's not fair that the Red Sox could have a better record then the central division winner and still fail to make the the playoffs. What makes it even more unfair is that division winner does not have to play the Yankees or rays a total of 38 times. I think this new wildcard team helps eliminate that unbalance, somewhat.
  8. Why? So the Blue Jays and Baltimore continue to have no chance to make the playoffs? Two wildcards must be allowed from the same division, especially with unbalanced schedules.
  9. It honestly still hasn't sunk in that Terry isn't the manager anymore. It's a very weird feeling. As much as his in game moves left something to be desired, it was always comforting to hear him analyze the game and talk about the team.
  10. Well you entitled to your opinion. From everything I've read they say Beckett is actually in pretty good shape.
  11. You do realize that he was the best pitcher in the American league until he hurt his ankle on September 7th. Seriously. This is so off base. I feel like everyone forgets about that. Sure maybe if his conditioning was better he may not have hurt his ankle, but I am not willing to go that far. Let's also be fair, the second to last start against the O's at Fenway he pitched a wail of a game until Francona let him go to far in the 8th when he got hit around. He also won his previous start before that against the Ray's. BECKETT SAID HE MADE MISTAKES... He is trying to move on, but shmuks like Dan Shaunesey keeping harping on it. What else do you want him to say? What is this kindergarten?
  12. Honestly, I feel like Beckett hasn't said anything wrong. The fans and media want to crucify him. I personally am excited to see him pitch this season. Why can't we just f***ing move on already, it's over. Period. I hate Boston sports writers and the fans that eat up that garbage.
  13. This is clearly just a PR move.
  14. I was glad to see this today, I've been around here since 2005 and it's really hard to tolerate some of the senseless crap that has been going on. I typically like to engage in off-season topics, but I hardly could this year with all of the bickering and personal attacks. I am very excited for the season to start, and will be contributing to this website once the games begin.
  15. Hmm, you can't possibly judge "where they were at the end of last season" and where they are today objectively. They had a lot of injuries and players performing well bellow career averages. I feel with a new work ethic and something to prove this team easily has a better talent level than what ended the 2011 season. (Also we don't have the worst statistical pitcher of all time logging 160 innings.) That should help immensely.
  16. "Ramirez didn't waste much time displaying the form that has led to 555 career home runs. He launched at least a half dozen balls over the fence during his first batting practice session, including a pair that cleared the fence in center field."
  17. Are you f***ing kidding me?
  18. I think your the one who needs to take a step back and really look at this team objectively. On paper this team is one of the most talented squads in the game. Period. Sure there are question marks, but what team doesn't have question marks? The Yankees HAVE HUGE question marks. Can Pienda/Kuroda pitch in the AL East? Will this be the year that MO finally looses it? Will Jeters skills continue to diminish in the field and at the plate? Will Granderson come way back down to earth this year? Will Teixeria's trend of sinking BA continue? Will Ian Nova continue to develop into a solid 2 man. I could do this for every team. To sit here right now and say a team that won 90 games last year (we all know it should have been more) that should be healthier (I choose to believe that we will be luckier this year) is not a top tier potential is foolish. We have 3 of the best pitchers in the American Leauge in our rotation. We have in my mind a top 3 AL offense ( could easily be # 1, if things break the right way).
  19. Is it spring training yet?
  20. If DiceK is already throwing, doesn't that indicate that he could return sooner than we previously thought?
  21. You have no way of knowing what Youk will produce. I think he is going to be better than what he was in 2011.
  22. http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-sox/post/_/id/16143/olney-sox-offered-oswalt-5m 5 million?? No wonder why he doesn't want to come to Boston. That's less than Saunders got.
  23. Jackson always gives up as many hits or more hits than inning pitched and he doesn't strike out a lot of batters. I can definitely see him imploading under the Boston pressure.
