Oh give me a break. Its the truth and you know it. I didn't want Kimbrel back, and you probably didn't either, but Id be more confident if they would just name a closer rather than saying "closer by committee". My intention wasn't to be negative about Braiser, I think he can do it.....I was just stating the reality of what happened to him at the end of last year.

Its always hard to say with Spring Training. A couple years ago (maybe 10!!) Dave McCarty, I believe, led all of baseball in spring training in homeruns with 10 or so (completely going off memory). He barely made the team. Its not so much the performance, as it is the scouts and management evaluating the players.

He does contribute. As a AAAA player. Able to play solid defense in the INF, and the OF if needed. Maybe he makes this team as a 6th INF, but he is nothing more than that. Roster wise, he is right where he should be.

Swihart makes this team. Regardless of what the numbers say, he had his road paved in to the starting lineup prior to getting hurt. They arent going to give up on the guy who had all that potential because he was hurt. Especially considering he has the ability to play multiple positions (including DH, he played 6 positions last year). It sounds stupid, bc I cant back it up with numbers, but he has lost a huge portion of his career due to injury, being promoted too fast, etc. He can hit. Just watching his approach, you can see that he at least has the tools to figure it out. Sandy Leon is on his way out.

That is a lot. 1. Why? Baseball is already the highest paid player annual salaries, by a lot. 2. Player control should be less than that. 3 years.....if the team cant figure out what to do with a player in 3 years (most cases, he is 24/25/26 by this point) then allow the player to leave. 3. ok 4. Why do they need 27 players? What is wrong with 25? I know this it nitpicking, but......rosters already have guys that never play, or never pitch. I could see MAYBE 1 extra spot for a pitcher, as sometimes teams get burned out in blowouts or extra inning games......but that doesnt happen often enough. 5. Fine, give 4 more players the opportunity to be called up without designating someone. 6. Owners will never go for this. Never. 7. Yes, keep the luxury tax. If anything, increase the penalties for going over (Sox would be screwed if that happened).

Where have you heard this? Braiser....maybe, but he crapped his pants at times at the end of last season, probably due to the fact he was pitching almost everyday when they realized he was their only solid option out of the pen (outside of SP's). Barnes....No...No.....he will literally need a change of pants between the 7th inning and 9th inning if we have a lead and there is a possibility the game hangs on his shoulders. He just doesnt have the right makeup for it.

That wont happen. Owners want a salary cap, players don't. Players want a salary floor, owners don't. Can't have it both ways. The future of baseball might be in jeopardy with these hard stances, especially with the owners appearing to be getting the upperhand in the last couple offseasons. The strike nearly killed baseball in 1994. With less and less youth involved in baseball across the world.....this could really, really hurt the game as we know it.

Exactly. Thats a ton of pressure on him to perform. They don't look at baseball the way they do either. If he is hitting .249 down there, it doesn't matter what his other numbers say. They will crucify him for making that money, hitting .249, no matter how many wins hes worth. That is a train wreck waiting to happen.

If he plays poorly, there is NO WAY he gets out of that contract. There is NO WAY the Phillies get out of that contract. He won't be "endeared" to anyone if he sucks.

What is so crazy about my posts? You are crazy to think that we are going to pay the guy. Benny, Bogaerts, Betts and Bradley are all up soon. You think they will pay 1 player all that money at the expense of everyone else when we already have the highest payroll in baseball (by far)??? Talk about crazy. He is gone, better to accept it now. Want proof? We dont have a closer this year because they arent willing to go much further in terms of payroll. Instead, we have the always doomed "closer by committee" this year.

Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way, as it does with all of us. I hope I have the free time to. Everytime I come back though, everyone wants to fight me hahahahhahaha. The truth, or my perceived truth, hurts I guess.

Multiple reports say they are looking to unload a catcher. Swihart has the highest upside. Sandy Leon, is at a career intersection. Do they value Swihart's perceived potential more than Leons production, which will most certainly trend down given his age, ability, potential and regression?

Sorry for the double post, but something else to think about..... For the money they would pay Betts...... They could probably get 10-11 wins from a SP FA signing. They could sign a couple roster fillers. They could sign bullpen help. They could sign someone to produce half of what Betts is producing, while possibly improving other areas of the team. He is a great player. He is not worth that money. No player is, look for other options to improve the team. Mookie Betts is not going to be here for the long haul, we need to accept this as fact now. They will not pay him at the expense of the rest of the team. Especially with the other talent (Bogaerts, Betts, Bradley, Benintendi etc.) coming to the ends of their rookie deals.

I don't want to attack you, but no player is worth that money. I think we are overrating him a little, due to the fact he is a home grown talent. Something to think about, his postseason numbers are poor. Why can't we sign a player 75% of his season output, win 6/7 games less a year, but maybe perform better in the playoffs due to the fact that Betts almost contributes nothing in the postseason? The Patriots apply this mentality every year, and win every year. At some point, the dollar value outweighs the output value for a position. All factors need to be considered.

The problem with those numbers, is that he moved up so fast so young, did well, then has been stalled ever since his debut MLB appearance. You have to discount almost all of his AAA numbers due to the fact he only really played those games due to rehab/injury. He went from AA to the bigs in 2014 and has stalled ever since due to injury, playing time etc.

The question isn't about what we, or other teams would offer. The question is, is he worth it for us to sign him? He has literally never given ANY indication that he enjoys being here or that he wants to be here. What happens when he gets the money? Is that investment worth it, if he isn't invested in us? What if he is only invested in himself at 35M per year for 10 years? We have the money, no question....we are already far and above every other MLB team in terms of salary........at some point though, there becomes a cost/production variable. What happens if he signs an outrageous deal like Harper and doesn't produce? Are you ok with the Sox being middle of the pack while absorbing his albatross contract along with all the other "high" priced contracts, knowing that ownership wont spend any more money because of a potentially terrible contract? Just something to think about.
