  1. I wouldn't get too excited, they might only be trying to remove him from the 40 man roster. Looks like it. I'd like to see it, make spring training exciting to watch for the first time since Michael Jordan was playing baseball.
  2. You don't make any sense. I see him eventually being either Adam Dunn, Richie Sexson or Russell Branyan. All 3 had all world power. All 3 were giants. All 3 had huge strike zones. All 3 struck out a ton. I am not sure he is quite Adam Dunn, I think he will end up being most similar to Richie Sexson.

haha, Im hoping I can stick around this time around. Life always seems to get in the way.
  4. He could very well turn out being a decent player. My problem with the defections, is that they hardly ever meet the hype. Is it really worth the resources when you could probably draft and develop the same type of player here....and have them under team control for cheap money?
  5. Great? I wouldn't say that. Trot Nixon was OPS+ 116 with Boston. Trot Nixon was not a great player, he was a good player. Nixon was also probably a better defensive player than Matsui. Paul O'Neill was OPS+ 125 in his time with the Yankees. O'Neill was not a great player. He was a very good player on a great team. Godzilla, he was not. Typical liberal pussy, taking a comment out of context and making it seem like I am somehow a racist.
  6. Well, it seems like you still like men, and for your information.....I only approve of Reggie Jefferson. ......come to think of it, he'd probably make a decent hitting coach
  7. Judge is a fluke. Huge holes in his swing that have already been exposed. Nothing he has ever done, and no scouting report has ever indicated that he would ever be a 50HR hitter in the big leagues. He was exposed quite a bit in the second half this year.....I expect him to hit around .250 with 25-30 HR this year. Those numbers may be generous. You don't go from 19HR in AAA to 52HR in MLB at the age of 25. Fluke.
  8. Why is it a failure? Do you live in the Boston area? There isn't much of an outcry that he isn't coming here, In fact......fans in the Boston area could care less. Let someone else get hosed. He has already stated he doesnt have the mental capacity for a market bigger than San Diego by opting for a smaller market.
  9. Not sure why the Yankees or the Redsox never considered Mike Stanley as a manager. Very intelligent baseball mind with coaching experience.

Its been a long time since I regularly posted here. I see there are a lot of new faces around here, as well as some that I know quite well. I am hoping I can start to post more regularly. I believe this forum was originally created in 2004, I joined in summer 2005......not many people around from those days. Here's to the 2018 season! Edit: Seems like the posting is down quite a bit here from what I remember. Don't mind my confrontational/argumentative posting style, I prefer that threads stay open and active than dead and stagnant.
  11. Yup, We will see. We'll see that once again, Japanese players are not even worth their posting fee, let alone long term contract.
  12. Overhyped. Will not come as advertised. Will not be given a serious opportunity to hit and pitch. Pitching arms are investments and are worth too much. How would the team that signs him ever explain why their 30 million dollar pitcher hurt his arm making a throw from the outfield when he is nothing more than a .220 hitter? Hideki Irabu was their "Roger Clemens" Hideki Matsui was their perennial all star home run champion. Dice-K threw a Gyroball. The Gyroball doesn't exist. And he sucked. None ever produced anywhere near the hype. Ichiru is the only player that backed up the hype, and he just might be the greatest singles hitter in baseball history, replacing Pete Rose. Plus, an all time defender with plus speed.
  13. Hopefully Vazquez catches 120 games this year. I think he is ready to take the next step. IMO he is already one of the best overall catchers in the game, hes just been limited with playing time. He is already a top 5 defensive catcher, his PB numbers were up this year, but I think that is an aberration. Hopefully they find someone to replace Sandy Leon as the #2. Leon is an anchor in the lineup, and not in a good way. He is the definition of a black hole offensively and his defense doesn't make up for his offensive ineptness. I would probably accept Leon as a backup more, as long as he played 40 or less games a year.
  14. I think what you meant was......Dice-L was pretty lucky, ESPECIALLY in 2008 before he got injured. His 2008 season was one of the biggest flukes in Sox team history. He was garbage. You take that 2008 season out, and he was pretty awful considering the posting fee + contract.
  15. Just an honest question.... How many of these high profile, high posting fee japanese imports have we seen that were actually worth it? -Dice-K was a clown for all the hype. Gyroball????? Give me a break -Hideki Matsui had the hype of their version of Babe Ruth, but was nothing more than a .280 hitter with doubles power. -Yu Darvish is hardly what was originally expected. -Kaz Matsui was a shortstop that couldn't play shortstop -Hideki Irabu was their version of Nolan Ryan. I don't need to comment further. -Kei Igawa, nice sunglasses......awful -Sang Lee (Redsox).....lol -Robinson Checo (Redsox).....lol The only players to have real success are Ichiro, Hideo Nomo, and in some respect....Chan Ho Park. Koji, Saito and Hasegawa had some success, but it was short lived, and they were nothing more than relief pitchers/short term closers. Why do we continue to hype the Japanese imports.......who are putting up big numbers....at a AA Pro baseball level?
  16. Both Carson Smith and Tyler Thornburg are getting closer to rehab assignments. If Price can stay in the rotation and stay healthy......Sale, Price, Porcello is still one of the best 3, if not the best top 3 in baseball. They are only 2 games out and some of their offensive players are starting to turn things around. I think they will be ok.
  17. Why are we comparing him to Fred Lynn? Fred Lynn was a Gold Glove winning All-Star CF for arguably 12 years. AB plays LF and has 306 career AB's.
  18. You guys have gone soft. What ever happened to the old TalkSox days when it was much less PG? He blows. Hes acceptable as a backup, as long as you get enough production from the starting catcher. Since he IS the starting catcher......woof.
  19. Water is wet. Yup. Let him hit. JBJ is not going to be the guy who had a 30 game or whatever hitting streak and hit 20+ homeruns last year. Best case, .250BA .330OB%, 15HR, 60RBI with an average OPS. He is not a superstar offensive player.........but up the middle with Vazquez, Xander ,Pedey and JBJ is as solid as they come. The problem is that we are not getting the typical offensive production from typical offensive positions.....1B, 3B and DH.
  20. Oh yeah, Pedroia definitely respects him. Multiple times this season alone he has thrown him under the bus. Being the longest tenured player on the team, and certainly the most quotable, makes you question their respect for him. Effort level has nothing to do with the manager. "Scrapping through stuff" has nothing to do with the manager. The team has too much talent not to. I didnt say anything about whether or not hes a good manager (hes not). What Pedroia did is on Pedroia? WTF does that mean? Hes the longest tenured player on the team. You are going to dismiss what hes done/said on multiple occasions to fit your argument? Talk about cop out. No, I really dont care either way. With the Sox FO and the way they have run things, Farrell has little say in the things that actually matter anyway. Hes just a puppet. The players know it and he sounds like an idiot every time he opens his mouth. Fair enough. But the fact that they have finished in first place twice, and last place twice......I think shows that he has nothing to do with the outcome. If he has a good team, they win. When he doesnt, they lose. What? So none of those individual plays matter during the game? Why even play then.....just flip a coin!
  21. Based on what? Hes only had one season that hes ever been "ignited". The year he is having now, is more in line with his career average when you take out last season.
  22. Varitek was a above average offensive catcher at 26 years old. Varitek went right from college to AA because of a contract dispute (Scott Boras, shocking) that set him back 2-3 years. Varitek was an extremely highly touted collegiate player and was a first round pick.....TWICE!!!!! Leon has sucked since the day he signed a professional contract. You'd have a better chance at offensive success by DH'ing for Leon and letting the pitcher hit.
  23. Marrero's splits don't matter. He has never hit at any professional level, plus hes been a disaster defensively when you compare his output to reputation. We are paying Sandoval, play Sandoval. Marrero is a borderline minor league offensive player, let alone major league caliber player. it is embarrassing that he has received the amount of playing time he has thus far.
  24. Yeah, while those players may have despised their manager, they probably respected him. The difference is nobody respects Farrell. He thinks hes intelligent when he says things like "impacted the ball". John, you sound like an idiot, just say "he hit the ball". The guy is a clown and the players know it.
  25. Sandy Leon blows. Christian Vasquez should be playing 70% of the time. Sandy Leon is recycled MLB trash.
