  1. I think you should re read the opening paragraph. Sidenote: for the most part, they are all within the last twenty years plus a few notorious bad defenders.
  2. Clarkes worst season was 18 errors, not completely terrible...and he was a .983 career fielder....so also not completely terrible. Greenwell was hot and cold. The monster ate him up at times. Sometimes he just looked lost. I would add Canseco, but he was not always a terrible OF. He actually had above average range factor compared with league average and did have 55 OF assists. There are definately worse to pick from.
  3. This thread is dedicated to those who were blessed with stonehands. So the question is: Who are the worst defensive players all time by position in the modern time period? I will list a couple and we can go from there. C: Not really sure here, Mike Stanley? Jim Leyritz? Mike Piazza? Todays catchers are worse than the old timers, since the catcher position was always known as a glove position. C:John Bateman, (23 errors in 1963), Thurman Munson (23 errors in 1975) P: Matt Young...couldnt throw to 1B 1B: Dick Stuart, Frank Thomas 2B: Alfonso Soriano, Juan Samuel 3B: Bobby Bonilla .931 Percent., Tony Perez (35 errors is '70) Jose Valentin, Butch Hobson (43 errors in '78) SS: Jose Offerman, Roy Smalley (51 errors in 1950) OF: Glenallen Hill OF: WMP, I love the guy....but hasnt shown much. OF: Todd Hundley, (the year he experimented in the OF) OF: Chili Davis .971 fielding percentage as OF OF: Lou Brock, 19 errors in LF in 1966
  4. David Ortiz says hello.

  6. How awful is it that I snickered when I read that.....you are awful, in a funny way. What a dick (kidding)
  7. Per WEEI today, Manny Ramirez's agent said that Manny will not ask for a trade this season, and instead is looking for an extension instead. I think there is more to this than meets the eye. First of all, Pedro is in town, and Pedro is buddies with Manny. Im thinking Pedro had a talk with Manny and told him to stay in Boston, because Pedro himself misses Boston very much. Pedro still says it today that he never wanted to leave. Im thinking that Pedro told Manny that the grass is not always greener on the other side and that the fans in Boston are like no other. Players love to play here. Millar wanted to stay, Pedro wanted to stay, Embree was sour when he left, Mo Vaughn was upset to leave, Eckersley has said its the best, Nomar was stunned to leave, Damon has hinted that he misses it, Wakefield signed his life over to Boston for a marginal deal, Ocab wanted to stay and nobody can forget Clemens, who was furious for years....but in the end he still has Boston in his heart. Maybe Pedro talked some sense into Manny to wake him up and realize that he is loved here in Boston, and he will never be received the way he is in Fenway, and that two nights ago was the hardest moment in the career of Pedro Martinez, taking a standing ovation with a video montage playing.....while wearing a visiting uniform.
  8. Sorry, just got a little excited about it haha.....I think Ill start a new thread so my comments dont hijack your thread.
  9. If hes sore.....No. I did hear on WEEI today that Manny's agent said that Manny Ramirez has said that he will not ask the team for a trade this year, and instead is looking for an extension to finish his career in Boston. Very Interesting if you ask me. Im thinking maybe Pedro had a talk to Manny and Pedro told him to stay in Boston, and that he regrets leaving Boston and that the money maybe greener on the other side, but the grass is not....I think there may be more to this.
  10. Juan Pena is still playing, he was just never really that good. (http://thebaseballcube.com/players/P/Juan-Pena.shtml). I saw him pitch on TV during the winter dominican winter league, I believe he was Tejadas teamate. He was never that good, and wasnt supposed to be either, just a flash in the pan.
  11. He was snubbed last year....what do you guys think? Hes putting up awesome numbers again, or do you think the lack of games (27) pitched so far because of his DL stint will keep him off yet again? He quietly does his job day in and day out and not much is ever really said about the guy, but like fine wine seems to only be getting better as he gets older.
  12. Kind of like the Mike Timlin 2005 syndrome...
  13. Well, we do have a small amount of money invested in some guy named Manny Ramirez, and another no name playing RF who has been with the organization since 1993. So I guess you are right in a sense, its been 6 years when we signed a bopper to play corner OF, but he is one of the best in the game.
  14. Completely agree, although I think Willie Harris does have some value.....more than a POS anyway.
  15. You have bashed WMP since he came here, but the reality is......that he is here to stay. They didnt acquire a 24 year old slugger for a reliable pitcher with the intention of Gabe Kapler or an unproven David Murphy to EVER take time away from him. Take a very close look at David Ortiz's Career (http://www.baseball-reference.com/o/ortizda01.shtml), and compare it to WMP's. Ill say it again, people in the FO know a lot more than we do, and we have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
  16. Offerman was a leadoff hitter before he started to suck (or age). He was then dropped to 8th and 9th in the lineup before finally taking some pine. Frye also wasnt a prototypical number 2 hitter, he led off sometimes, hit second, or at the bottom of the lineup. I liked Frye a lot, he was a good all around ballplayer who could never stay healthy. The funny thing about that list, is that while many of them have hit second, a lot of them arent prototypical #2 hitters. I would say only Walker and Loretta are the only prototypical #2 hitters. Bellhorn was a freak of nature for a year and had some success doing alot of things a #2 hitter generally tries not to do (like K, or take mulitple good pitches rather than trying to move the runner over).
  17. Im not sure I liked the defined innings. Its as if we are only expecting our starting pitchers to go 5 innings? Does this mean we will never see Hansen if the game goes past the sixth? Instead of assigning innings, they should be assgined roles: Mopup/Long Tavarez Short Hansen Rspecialist Seanez Lspecialist Lopez SetupB MDC SetupA Timlin Closer Papelbon
  18. I second the re-signing of Gonzo...I guess then the question becomes...what to do with Pedroia with Lowell signed through next year. Whats Lorettas contract status? Id also hate to see him go at this point, him and Gonzo turn a solid DP. Id really like to keep this INF as is for next year...
  19. Where did you get .283? I may be wrong but this is what I got... http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=136460 Is he hitting .283 After the first month of the season?
  20. Snyder...for now, then maybe Choi? A little unsure about that though....why get rid of a below average lefty 1B to bring up another? Maybe Machado and his versitility....or Stern for a short stay, even though Stern wouldnt make much sense either.....whoever it is is only temp. till WMP comes back...
  21. I have been thrilled about what this guy has done with Boston. Hes hitting the ball better, has outstanding range, quick hands, strong arm, 1 error and has been named possibly the best defensive shortstop in Boston since Rico. Thats quite an honor....
  22. Completely agree, which is why I thought Jsinger was wrong about Harris being gone, he at least has some value...Snows body language while pinch hitting was like he didnt care, or was pissed off about the situation...he clearly wasnt happy.
  23. Seanez is one of Franconas top choices from the pen. It was a good pitch that was hit, he was unbelievable last month (1.64 ERA), and is having a pretty solid month this month (3.52 ERA). Nothing wrong with going with him in a clutch position, I trust him more than Timlin after last night....Timlin looked a little rusty. He should be worked in non-pressure situations to get his legs under him again. Tavarez just doesnt fit on this team.....square peg in a round hole.
  24. Yeah, I shouldnt have quoted him....so sorry ORS in advance.....i was just trying to say that one start against a light hitting national league team in a national league park doesnt mean that much to me...
