  1. This is why fans should not vote in players. With home field advantage at stake, i dont want my allstar team with players exclusively from Boston and NY. Its a populartity contest.
  2. So heres the voting so far: 3B: Arod SS: Jeter 2B: Cano 1B: Ortiz C: Varitek OF: Damon OF: Manny OF: Vlad Dont get me wrong, I am a huge Sox fan.....but does anyone else want to see an allstar team with ALL Redsox and Yankees starting on the field with the exception of Vlad? I mean come on, this is supposed to be a showcase of all the leagues best talent, with those players putting up the best numbers in their positions. Arod should not be starting at 3B, Cano should not be starting at 2B, Ortiz should not be starting at 1B, Tek should not be starting at C, and Damon should not be starting at CF. Comments?
  3. Let me say this.....I admire what the Yankees are doing this season. Ive never been a Yankees hater, a Yankees hater does not understand what they have meant for baseball. The face of their franchise (Ruth) saved the game so many years ago and made it what it is today. Hell, the guy died almost 60 years ago, and his name is alive as ever. That being said, if you told me that their starting lineup and pitching rotation last night, and for this season would only have them 1 game behind Boston and ahead of the Jays in the standing....I would have called you crazy. I have to admit, they are a scary team if we cant pick up ground on the group of rag tags they are putting on the field every night. I really think the baseball gods want it to be Sox Yankees every season, regardless of who marches out of each respective dugout.
  4. Gammons stated on WEEI that the RedSox talked to Maddux's agent about pitching in Boston when he was a free agent, and that Maddux's agent told the Sox that he respectively declines talking to the RedSox because he didnt want to pitch in the AL east. Maddux is a smart man and knows his limitations at this point in his career. He would get nailed in the AL East.
  5. Another solid performance....starting to pitch well...looks like hes going to make the cut date...good for him...and good for a good guy as well. Never hear a negetive thing from him.
  6. I see your points Crunchy. But I honestly feel he is way to good to send to AAA. Why send him down there when he is contributing offensively right now? Why weaken the team? Why not keep him up so we have more bullets to gun in a gunfight? What he did in Cincinatti is irrevelent. If we thought that way we would have sent Ortiz to AAA a few years back and he may not have ever became the player he is today. An injury opened up the door for Ortiz, and the rest is history. What Ortiz did in Minnnesota was irrevelant because he became a completely different player in Boston, just like WMP has. Even if WMP one day ends up seeing more time on the pine, I think he will still get enough playing time and guidance to grow with the big league team.
  7. Consider myself owned? You took my quotes and just gave your own unintelligent insight. Its argumentative, not fact. Further evidence of an idiot....I didnt use Sam Horn as a measuring stick, someone else comapred his career right now to WMP, READ THE WHOLE THREAD. Can someone tel me how to use the ignore user option?
  8. 1.Youk is not a rookie. 2. Replace with a good pinch hitting option. Not Choi, I dont like Choi. 3. Bernie Williams won a gold glove too. Did Snow win one last year? no, the year before? no. It doesnt matter what Snow did 6 years ago. 3. If Youk gets hurt? I hope they land someone better than Snow, If Lowell gets hurt? Im pretty sure Cora can play 3B and leave Youk at 1B. 4. Why is it worth carrying Snow? He doesnt play, at all...not even defense anymore. Tito doesnt have any rotation for him to play...and he has disappeared since the first week of the season.
  9. 1. At this pace, he will get 500 AB 2. He is playing the OF, and playing CF very well actually. 3. You contradict yourself. If he has the plate discipline of a minor leaguer, then why was he drafted at 17? Why has he been in the big leaugues for almost 5 years? 4. I am guessing he could play in the field since he played in the NL and played many many games for the Reds over the last few seasons. So that must mean he can field at least a little. 5. He wont shatter the K record, because he continues to get better with time. 6. He wont develop patience in pawtucket hitting off of s***** AAA pitchers who dont throw big league breaking stuff, or have big league life on their fastball, he is a big league ball player and need to learn up here, which he has been doing well. 7. He has not appeared fazed by the Yankees in either series. 8. Wily Mo Pena has already had a better career than Sam Horn, and Wily Mo has already shown his scary power at the big league level. 9. He is actually hitting .150 against lefties or some crazy number like that. He is killing right handers.
  10. So youre comparing Kevin Youkilis, a good fielding first baseman, who is young with no history of bum knees.....to Bill Buckner and suggesting that the much older Snow is a better defensive reaplcement? So Kevin Youkilis is going to make a catastrophic error in the playoffs and cost the Sox the series because Youk is having knee problems and couldnt get over to the ball fast enough while concentrating on the ball? I dont see the comparison. First of all, Buckner was a good fielding first baseman. Second of all he should have been taken out of that game because he had bum knees and could barely walk. I dont see the comparison with the young, slick fielding Kevin Youkilis. The reason why we carried Mccarty and Mientkawicz was because of Kevin Millar and his inability to play 1B. We now have a 1B capable of playing 9 innings and hitting both lefties and righties. There is no logner a need for a backup firstbaseman. ....and JT Snow does not provide you with any power from the left side, and is a poor pinch hitting option since he was never regarded as an offensive player anyway.
  11. I dont want Ocab at the money they are paying him. Gonzo has a little nice deal and plays great defense. ......and comparing Gonzo to Nomar based on fielding percentage is not fair because nomar had the range of the statue of liberty his last few seasons. Gonzo also has a more accurate arm than Ocab, and is alot smoother. There arent many SS's that are as smooth as him. He makes his errors because he gets to balls other SS's wouldnt even dream about. How many times has he butchered a ball hit at him? I can think of one this season...and remember, he is playing at Fenway which is a notorious SS killer. I think hes been quite impressive.
  12. Crunchy....you are dead wrong. Send WMP to the minors? So he can do what....murder AAA pitching? Whats that going to do for him? He has gotten better at the major league level everyday. There is no reason he should be sent to AAA to work on killing s***** curveballs and nothing fastballs. He has already shown the ability to hit major league pitching, and continues to make adjustments. He will learn nothing in AAA.
  13. Why is Eckersley considered a top 5 sox pitcher? Had he stayed a SP he was never going anywhere. He had two good seasons and was pretty average after that. When I think of Eck, I always think of the A's (and Kirk Gibson).
  14. Joe Wood Roger Clemens Pedro Martinez Cy Young 5a Babe Ruth 5b Luis Tiant Closer: Dick Raditz
  15. The guy is playing GG defense. He may not hit the mendoza line, but if everyone else does their job, then who cares? The guy is a special defensive player....better than all previous SS's defensively weve had in years (Rentawreck, Ocab, Nomar, Johnny V). How about we show the guy some appreciation because when the ball is hit to short, we know he is going to make the play. He makes every play look so easy and its really something to watch such a fluid SS with soft hands make throws right on the money. Show him the love for giving us something we didnt have last year, a great defensive SS with the ability to make big plays.
  16. It didnt go so well, but it is again clear he is throwing the ball alot better than last year. The pitches that were being hit, were not missing by much. He was hitting 93 and 94 on the gun so thats encouraging. Baltimore was fouling off some nasty pitches before doing damage, granted they are not very good hitters...but they hung in well tonight. My wrestling coach used to say, "a wins a win", we can only expect better from G38. If we can win throwing at not his highest level, we are going to be ok.
  17. Looks like they finally got Andy Philips bat in the lineup, at NYYFANS.com they have been bitching about his PT. Cant understand their love for miguel cairo though...I woulda kept Bellhorn over him.
  18. Yankees SP this season: Randy Johnson...clearly not Randy this season, and he has been consistently bad. Shawn Chacon...got shelled badly tonight Mike Mussina...solid horse as usual Carl Pavano...not even sure if he will ever pitch again Aaron Small...fluke Wang...solid Jaret Wright...terrible
  19. The Yankees have murderors row (the lineup)...but they also have the murdered row (pitching staff).
  20. What a great nickname hahaha, thats too good. The Yankees are in trouble. Their offense cant keep up with that horrendous staff.
  21. I crack up every time I see Papi motor down the line...
  22. Loretta continuing to warm up...nice shot up the middle
  23. Its hard to watch how miserable Balitmores starting pitching is... just kidding.....boy are the awful though
  24. Any Willy Mo laid off a high fastball and two curveballs in the dirt to work the walk....when a month ago he woulda went down hacking...
