  1. Even though he sucks, I suspect Willie Harris will be called up, and may take Kaplers place on the playoff roster for emergency reasons and his versatility. Kapler doesnt really have a place on the roster with WMP doing what he can do and doing it better. Willie Harris may never even get in to a game, and I am in no way saying he is better than Gabe Kapler, because he is not, but he is more versatile and gives them flexability in case of an emergency.
  2. They dont want to win in front of some of baseball fans in the country? No offense but since the new ownership took over I dont think that is true at all, weve had some big "gamers" over the last couple of years and many of them want nothing but to bring titles to Boston.
  3. Not bad for someone who we projected to hit .225, or rather that we would be happy with .225.
  4. ******************************************************************* This thread should be moved to fights and crap, because thats what it is. A big pile of raunchy crap. *******************************************************************
  5. Ahhh, my 2 month old sister knows Tavarez sucks, my deaf-blind uncle knows Tavarez sucks. If you want to take pride in figuring something out that all of Sox nation already knows about so be it. Let me ask you something. When you turn on a light switch do you also claim you invented electricity? This is not some scientific finding. This is not a cure to aids. You simply stated the obvious, something everyone already knows. And yes I can top it with some accurate information, I just took a s*** and it smelled bad. That is VERY accurate.
  6. How many freakin times are you going to start a thread about Tavarez. Nobody wants him here, and he is talked about in multiple threads. Please dont be so lazy and either search for an old thread you started, or take the time to read a thread and reply to it instead of pissing off the entire board with another stupid thread with another stupid thread title that is in no way referrencing the purpose of the thread. Ps. you're a bum....and NEM backwards is MEN, which is kinda strange considering your fascination in this one particular man. Gross :thumbdown
  7. I am tired of people blaming the season on the trade of a frigin #5 guy in our rotation. I said it in another thread, if you feel your season was lost because you were banking on a #4 or #5 pitcher, you were destined to fail anyway. Bronson Arroyo is not f***in god, hes not an ace, hes not a 2 or a 3. He was actually going to be starting the season in the BP because the FO valued him SOOOOOOOOOO much as a SP. He was an average pitcher.....at best. Again....to say that Bronson Arroyo would put us over the top is just foolish. The RedSox are stuggling because Matt Clement blows and is a head case, David Wells was hurt all year, Tim Wakefield is hurt, Keith Foulke sucked again, Mike Timlin was hurt and is now showing signs of age, Seanez and Tavarez pitching awful. How does Bronson Arroyo fix all those problems with the pitching staff? Like I said before, what if we did have Arroyo and Nixon gets hurt Who plays RF everyday? Gabe Kapler? Who plays RF next year? If Nixon got hurt and Kapler played everyday everyone would be btiching and moaning about how much Kapler sucks and everyone would STILL be trashing Theo. The guy can't win. Its not Theos fault that half the f***in roster comes to Boston and gets hurt, becomes a headcase, or simply sucks ass after years of success. You cant blame Theo for signing people who are consistently successful, then come to Boston and blow ass. Bronson Arroyo is not our savior, and if you want to point a finger....point it at Matt Clement, David Wells, Tim Wakefield (even though thats very very hard to do), Rudy Seanez, Julian Tavarez, or Keith Foulke....all players who are paid to succeed, and have track records.
  8. Actually, career averages over a 162 game season says that WMP strikes out an average of 155 times per season. Significantly lower than the season record, and Kingman averaged 152 a year. In addition, Big Papi averages 133 per season, and Manny averages 130. Add that in the fact that WMP is becoming a better hitter, is still very young, and learning. I suspect those numbers will come down.
  9. No, not you.....i was quoting you bc i was agreeing with you, but some people felt i was dead wrong.....sorry if it confused you.
  10. Sox fans are never satisfied. There really shouldnt be much discussion. Everyone in these parts forgets how mediocre Arroyo was. If Bronson Arroyo makes or breaks your season, then there are other big time problems. He is not a #2, or #3....he is a #4 at best. Yes, he may be better than some of the options we have at #4 right now, but if you are relying on your #4 to make or break your season....then there are other glaring issues. Why can't people just accpet the fact that Bronson Arroyo had ZERO upside, and his trade value would NEVER be higher than it was? WMP has an unlimited ceiling and people in the Reds forums still bitch today abotu the move. He has a whole tool shed of tools and ability. Bronson Arroyo was not going to get better, only worse. If rumors came out that he could have traded away Bronson for WMP and didn't he would be crucified just the same right now, and we would be bitching and moaning about Gabe Kapler starting in RF everyday, Nixon being hurt, and the fact that Theo didnt pick up a quality OF at the trade deadline.
  11. I remember when I made a thread about this a while back when I criticized Nixons power outage and was crucified for it. Funny how things change. Like I said then, now and completely agree.....WMP is a MUCH better option. He is seriously punishing the baseball, and while he does look foolish sometimes, it is remarkable the adjustments he makes during games rather than week to week like he once did.
  12. Come on....Hes not Mike Piazza or Matt Lecroy. Javy is obviously a step down from Dougie or Tek, but isnt flat out awful. It will be nice to see what he can do, hopefully being in a pennant race will turn on his fire and ignite the player he was two years ago. I can only imagine how much playing in Baltimore wore him down after playing for all those division winners in ATL.
  13. This probably deserves its own thread. The other thread deals with questions surrounding the situation, so this thread will be aimed at the move in general, and whether or not it is a solution. Obviously he is not the Lopez of 2 years ago, but hes still a better stick than Mirabelli, and arguably Vartiek (although neither are hitting very well this year, and Tek has a better OPS and more HR and RBI's, but also has 30 more AB's at this point) he is a significant drop from Teks defense and game calling abilities (Greg Maddux actually refused to work with him). Thoughts?
  14. LOL.....I think every Sox fan in the world knows this news. The last 2 pages of this thread talk specifically about this.
  15. sigh. Can we please stop all the threads about firing Theo, or Tito or any combination of the two? The FO went through hell trying to get him back, and every fan in RSN cried, bitched and moaned when he walked out, and cheered when he came back. As far as Tito, didnt he JUST sign an extension after managing the WS win with the embarassing league minimum for a manager? Neither are going anywhere.
  16. The waiver wire is so tricky though.....I bet the Yankees try to claim him, not with the intention of signing him, but to block him from coming to Boston. Anyone remember what happened with Randy Myers a few years back? "The same withdrawal guidelines are in effect now, with one big difference in the sequence: Teams waive players with the explicit intent of shedding them and their contracts. In other words, if Team A puts in a claim just to prevent Team B from making a deal, Team A might find itself with an unwanted drain on its payroll. The best example of this came in 1998 with the San Diego Padres, who put in a claim for lefty closer Randy Myers to keep Toronto from dealing the left-handed closer to Atlanta." The Yankees could put in a claim to block him and end up taking the hit. The Yankees have actually done this to other teams if you remember back to when the claimed Canseco off the wire and Torre had zero intention of ever playing him.
  17. Even if he were to make it out of the NL claiming spree....there is no way in hell the Yankees dont put in a claim for him... Here is a question though, lets say that nobody puts in a claim for him and he slips to the Sox and Yankees but both teams are tied for the division lead, and both teams put in a claim for him. What happens then? Do they look at head to head games, or do they look at win loss records within the league (not counting the interleague games). I think that is a pretty interesting topic, can anyone shed some light on this situation, even if it is a pipedream?
  18. Really? http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43895
  19. Another Newbie making a memorable splash in the talksox forum, we really should make a section for these types of posts, like "stupid s*** you dont say in your first 10 posts".:thumbdown
  20. Another ho hum incredible play. That was a very tough play to make, catching the ball from Crisp off balance, turning his hips mid stride and firing a pretty throw to 1B.
  21. This is not a good comparison. Wily Mo has already shown power at the big league level. Sam Horn was not someone we traded for, neither was Plantier. Parrish was 34 and was traded mid season to help secure the 88 pennant. Tony Armas was a free agent signing. Jack Clark was a free agent signing. Dick Stewart was a free agent signing. WMP is 24, and has already shown his power at the big league level. A good comparison is another 25 or under type guy with big league success traded for a mediocre pitcher. The problem is, you wont find many of them because we stole him from the Reds. If I were to make a comparison, it would be Richie Sexson for Wickman and Bere, or Brian Giles for Ricardo Rincon, or Gary Sheffield for Ricky Bones, or Bobby Bonilla for Jose Deleon, or Palmeiro for Mitch Williams and Paul Kilgus, or Fernando Tatis for Todd Stottlemyre, or Jose Cruz Jr for Paul Spoljaric. These are better examples of a 25 or under power hitting prospect with big league success being traded for mediocre/below average pitchers.
  22. Basketball is more of a team sport. Nobody can deny the greatness of Bird, but he also was part of the greatest basketball dynasty in the 80's. I wont argue that Bird was not clutch, but what David Ortiz does is amazing. Either way, we were lucky enough to have them both in Boston. In terms of greatness, anything Ortiz does in his career will not compare to what Bird did in his, Bird was one of the greatest basketball players ever, Ortiz is not one of the greatest baseball players ever. I think Ortiz may slow down because of his body type, weight and bad knees but when its all said and done, he may be looked at as one of the top power hitters in the game, but certainly not one of the best all around ballplayers ever. Ortiz is having himself a nice little ride, and he will never be forgotten, but I cant yet compare him to Bird.
  23. I heard on WEEI today that he actually is one of the losingest (not a real word) pitchers in the big leagues over the last three seasons, or something crazy like that. I do remember what you are talking about though, I remember when a lot of people thought he was going to be pretty good, but he struggled to stay afloat in the s***** market of Pittsburgh. I also remember hearing that he was a nibbler. A nibbler in Fenway watches balls go far far away over the monster. I was really against Theo getting into the wells, maddux arms races.
  24. Well, considering my reply was not in response to anyhting you said, your INTERNET INTENSITY is a little over the top. In fact, I was in a conversation with Beckett95 about the season he had in 04 (if you read the whole conversation my first post was about how Carlos Perez forgot how to throw a FASTBALL, and the second was about his inconsistent seasons). SOOOOOOOOOOOO my post was relevent to a conversation on this board, which was Perez's 2004 season, and last time I checked the title of this thread was actually about Theo Epstein, not OLIVER PEREZS 27MPH DROP IN FASTBALL VELOCITY. AOL INTENSITY.....CAN YOU FEEL IT?
