  1. Nah, he already had his day in the sun. Im really hoping its a new fresh face.
  2. I started a new thread about who throws out the first pitch....check it out and please give the thread some feedback!!!
  3. Curly Hair boyfriend said he thought it would be Bill Buckner. I would really enjoy seeing the ovation BillyB gets in the bandbox, I think it would be a really great thing not only for the organization, but for him to realize that as petty as we were for blaming him.....we have forgiven him, and hopefully he forgives us for our selfishness and pettiness. Any thoughts? Maybe they retire a number, and that guy throws out the first pitch? They claimed it would be a chilling moment, and as we know, the new Sox management team, and ownership really do wonderful things when it comes to special moments. They really go over and beyond. So.......whos it gunna be????? I hope Buckner.
  4. Excellent points......kinda solidifies some of the things I was already thinking about him.
  5. Rob Zombie is just mad that I denied a PM request to be his boyfriend and is taking his anger out on every post I make it appears. I just dont find you cute man, sorry...let it go. Definitions of prospect on the Web: * the possibility of future success; "his prospects as a writer are excellent" * expectation: belief about (or mental picture of) the future * candidate: someone who is considered for something (for an office or prize or honor etc.) * search for something desirable; "prospect a job" * view: the visual percept of a region; "the most desirable feature of the park are the beautiful views" * explore for useful or valuable things or substances, such as minerals * prognosis: a prediction of the course of a disease so ahhhh yup, it appears that prospects are unpredictable. Generally, when a guy is in the minor leagues, and they are young, and they put together a good season.....I think we consider those prospects. Myabe its just me.....maybe I know nothing about baseball like you said before. Nobody cares about Pedro Alvarez.
  6. I apologize for the rant.
  7. Yeah, I have those same feelings. Hopefully MDC can pull through and this doesnt snowball on him.
  8. No.....your argument is a whole lot of If's though, and its also not a dumb argument because last time I checked, the Sox arent penny pinching. My argument stems from reality......your argument is based on IF. You are right, I know nothing about baseball. Judging from that statement, you are most likely 12 (and I am embarrassed for you if you are 1 day older than that, because that is a meager, pathetic, petty statement). You also stated my argument was stupid or worthless 3 times in one post, so Id say you either have turrets or have a hard time putting together thoughtful statements. Nobody gives a damn about some college kid we didnt give 1 million dollars to a couple years ago, except you.
  9. I tried searching for a previous thread with the title, could not find one to bump, so I guess Ill start one. Early in the season, but certainly one of the weaknesses that is starting to show its ugly head. David Aardsma looked good this spring, and had a solid performance so far through 3 games (I know its only 3, still). I think he stays. Brian Corey has been pretty good, but I doubt he sticks with the team all year. Eventually he will be bumped. Manny Delcarmen-An enigma, plus stuff, plus arm....doesnt always translate. His career numbers over 100 games are pretty good, very good actually.....but he continues to frustrate me. Javier Lopez-sucks....but getting ride of him leaves only 1 lefty in the pen. Hes gotta be replaced, but I think his replacement will have to be another lefty especially considering Oki isnt a real lefty specialist, I think he actually had reverse splits. Paps- nothing has to be said. Oki- same as Paps, obviously hell drop off a little since he was insane last year, and asking him to repeat is unfair. Yoyo-swingman, should not be counted on in tight spots. Timlin-cannot rely on him to be the setup guy anymore. How much does he have left? I think he can be very good in spots, but 60 games from him is asking too much and wearing his abilities too thin at this point i think. That is not a promising evaluation of their bullpen. Something has to give. I think best case scenario is that Colon comes aboard and really does well enough in the rotation allowing Clay to pitch in the bullpen, but in the long term, would Clay be better served pitching in the rotation in AAA, or pitching a couple of innings a week with the big club? If Delcarmen does not step up and become the setup guy.....I think the bullpen is in trouble. I know Oki is great and all....but I think a successful bullpen has 2 setup men....a righty and lefty like back in the days of Embree and Timlin.
  10. Yeah MDC doesnt impress me much either, but its hard to make that argument, bc of his year last year, and the stuff he appears to have. Just something about him though, just doesnt look right. I know hes from Roxbury and all, but maybe Boston isnt for him. I think he has the stuff to be a lights out reliever, but something is missing from his makeup, and I cant put my finger on it. Someone with a deuce like his, with that kind of heat, and pretty good mechanics.......no reason for him to struggle the way he does at time. Maybe you are right and he is missing that mental piece....either way I do agree with you about him.
  11. No. I think the real concern is his glove, bat, arm.....the hell with it. The real concern with Lugo, is Lugo suiting up and running out to play SS.
  12. Agreed. And like I said before, Im a big numbers guy as well.....but sometimes there are circumstances, where the numbers dont tell the whole story.....you cant put numbers on what you see. Some people use numbers as a complete way of evaluating a player....but a Braves assistant GM Roy Clark once said, "There's nothing wrong with looking at stats as a tool, but when you go strictly by that, then you're saying anybody can scout. The old school guys, the veteran scouts, they didn't have the radar guns and they didn't have all the stats they have today. But they could tell you who was going to be a major leaguer."
  13. Cya later. You got your ring, hit the road. I want Lopez out as well, but not replaced with a RHP. We need a damn lefty who can throw strikes.
  14. Thats why I said from 1995 on....
  15. Sorry, maybe I wasnt clear in what I was looking for. I meant guys who actually made it to the show, but failed.... You do bring up some sad names though. I remember Rick Asadoorian and Andy Yount being pretty popular picks though.
  16. Clay looks a little uncomfortable throwing the fastball off that mound.....he keeps slipping.
  17. Hes got good stuff so far.
  18. Hahahahaha, come on, its nice to see where we are now compared to then though isnt it? Look how far we have come, and how much actual young talent we have now compared to then!!!!!! I think its fun to reminisce about it.
  19. Comparing the predictability of major leaguers and college prospects are two HUGE, and I mean HUGE differences. It is much easier to predict a major leaguer based on previous experience and numbers rather than someone who has never even stepped on the field with other major leaguers, its really a dumb argument. The Sox can afford to make mistakes, and until this kid does something, its hard to feel remorse.
  20. I thought this could stir up some good nostalgia and good conversation....lets try to keep this 1995-Current, since that was the first wave of success, and right around the time Duquette came in to office and made the team significant again. When listing a player, give some comments about the player.....ie, what you head at the time about him, your excitement about the player, actual performance, notable notes about the player....lets try not to just throw out names. Ill start off. 1995 Ken Ryan CL-the closer that wasnt. Vaughn Eschelman LHSP- not a lot of hype, but early successes got us talking, until 96 and 97, hasnt pitched in the bigs since. 1996- Trot Nixon RF-had a nice little career, was nothing close to the hype, seemed like we talked about the kid forever. Started his career alot later than most would have thought at 25 years old. Arquimadez Pozo 3B-the duke made a huge deal oer acquiring this "power hitting" 3b from seattle. Never did a thing, dont know what happened to him. Alex Delgado C- was supposed to be our top catching prospect....at 25 years old. Jeff Suppan RHSP-as if the first time wasnt bad enough, they brought him back Joe Hudson- got a lot of hype, did nothing. Wil Cordero SS,2B- We got him at 24 years old after some very good seasons in MON. He couldnt play 2B, moved to LF, beat his wife and cya later. He had a promising career when we acquired him. 1997- terrible prospect year. Pemberton RF- after hitting .512 the year before in little time and showing some good power, he was a big disappointment in my mind. I really liked him. John Wasdin SP- WAYYYYYYYYYYY BACKKKKKKK. Never liked him, I loved Canseco at the time, hated the deal from the beginning. Robinson Checo SP-So much for interntational scouting huh Duke? (Wait, there was Sang Lee, and Jin ho Cho, and Ohka later on). What a waste of money. 1998-another terrible year Donnie Sadler 2B-probably one of the fastest men in baseball at the time. Very versatile........but was allergic to any type of wood. Brian Rose SP- heavily hyped, spare a few games against NYY and he did nothing. Jin Ho Cho SP-if i remember correctly, he was very good during the year in the minors, but awful in the bigs.....I can still remember watching his awful debut against the White Sox. 1999-another awful year (pattern devoloping) Wilton Veras 3B-still waiting for him to take over 3B Steve Lomasney C- another catching prospect. very highly touted although he never put up numbers in the minors....or majors. Michael Coleman CF- prime time..........umm yeah. another guy Duke pushed hard, but never really had the abilities. Average to good minor league numbers. Juan Pena SP- had some promising starts, blew out his arm. I thought he was going to be good. 1999- not very many Morgan Burkhart 1B DH- not really a prospect, but he did light up the INT leagues. Had some pretty good numbers his first year, but eventually they caught up to him. Israel Alcantara RF 1B-not really a prospect (29 at the time). Huge minor league numbers. Bad temper hahaha. Tomokazo Ohka SP- had a good first year. Brought us Pedro. .500 pitcher for his career. Paxton Crawford SP- like Rose, and Pena.....he was promising. Then the hotel incident occured. Never thought he woulda been very good. 2000 Sang Lee RP- a lot of hype was made by the duke when he signed him. Never did a thing and went back to Japan. 2001 Calvin Pickering 1B DH- big power numbers in the minor leagues. Never transalted. I think hes still kickign around the minors. Casey Fossum SP- everyone thought he was too small, and he may have been. He brought in a lot of hype, but never lived up to expevtations. He had a good sweeping curveball. I think hes also still around. 2002 Sunny Kim- same as the other guys Duke brought in from international waters. 2003 Freddy Sanchez 2B- we all know how he turned out, but for us, he was a bust. 2004 Nobody significant 2005 Adam Stern OF-never translated talents into numbers. Good ones anyway. Cla Meredith RP- bombed and shellshocked early. Putting together a nice career in NL. Abe Alvarez SP- once a top pitching prospect, now buried in the Sox farm. Craig Hansen RP- jury is still out. does not look promising. Kelly Shopach C- Variteks future replacement is now a career backup. Wish we could still have him backing up Tek now. 2006 Wily Mo Pena OF ( I guess)-Monster. Huge power. Little defense, and no room for him in our OF. Was given every opportunity, and did little with it. Had he hit Drew would never have been signed. Thats about it as we have yet to see how the newer guys pan out. Back in the Duke era, there were some pretty awful "prospects". Seemed like we only hyped them up to increase their trade value.
