The first quote was probably just out of frustration.....it is very aggravating knowing that we have better talent than these teams......on the road or not. Kevin Garnett is not a pussy......but he needs to get in to the paint man....no excuse. We agree about Ray Allen. Pierce is a wash I believe....he is doing a hell of a job on the D side, but he is throwing ill attempts on the O side...but then again, many of them are, I guess I just expect more from a hungry Pierce. Posey...I see your argument. Powe I think needs more minutes, earlier in the game to get his feet wet so hes prepared. He needs to give guys a breather. House....we agree....why save him until you NEEED big shots, put him in earlier, hes been more than serviceable. Cassel....while that may be true, but they both have, and Rondo offers more defensively......he is way too quick with the hook. Garnetts minutes......that argument is more in reason with the fact that Doc needs to get him rest earlier......if he stuck with his rotation that he had during the regular season, Garnett would be more fresh for the 4th quarter to give us some good series. Doc saved his guys all season.....but they now appear to be gassed during major stretches of the game....specifically during the 4th quarter......the rest he gave them doesnt seem to be working out. It is easy to blame Doc because he is not making adjsutments, and grinding his players in to the ground. After watchign this series, if they lose there is no one to blame but Doc, because he overused the big three during the playoffs.

Even if they win the championship, I feel that the struggles on the road have already taken something away from whatever they accomplish due to the expectations. That Atlanta (.451 WP%) series already kinda took something away from me...it woulda been the Sox struggling with the 72-90 (.444%) White Sox, or 75-87 Rangers (.463 WP%) in the first round of the MLB playoffs with them taking them 7 games to beat them. This is getting ugly. Kevin Garnet has become a jumpshooter rather than a power foward, terrified to step into the paint. Ray Allen is donating some amount of money to a charity for every three he hits during the playoffs.......Im really starting to think he hates his charity. Paul Pierce has become the same old selfish player he used to be. Kevin Garnett scores 2 points, gets 2 rebounds....and goes to the line zero times in the fourth quarter. Absolutely pathetic. Why is James Posey not playing? Why is Leon Powe not playing? Why is Eddie House not playing? Why is Sam Cassell playing regardless of the fact he is 3-26 shooting on the road? Why is Doc screwing with Rajons head by pulling him out every time he misses a shot? Why does he leave players in the game who are obviously completely gassed? Why did he stick Big Baby in the game last night, for the first time of the night....in a big time situation, when it was clear we needed Garnett out there.....oh yeah thats right, Garnett was garbage at that time sucking major wind. The head scratching could go on for days.... Why has Doc changed everything that made them succussful during the regular season during the playoffs. He saved all his players all season long only to run them in to the ground during the playoffs? They are absolutely gassed, and will lose this series, or sometime during the playoffs by constantly overusing players and mismanaging minutes. End of Rant.

He was with us the past few years? Talk about flying under the radar.

Pedro Alvarez so far this season: .302 average .421 OB% .534 SLG% 6 HR 21 RBI has only played in half the games so far... .922 fielding percentage (6 errors in 28 games) Look a little pedestrian to me for all the hype....dont know if he was hurt, but looks like there 3 players on his own team putting up better numbers.

5/9 @ Minnesota Twins

I dont think so. He gave up a hit, was one pitch away from putting away Gomez, and 1 pitch away from putting away Lamb. Lamb was fooled and punched it opposite way for the win. Had they not conceded the SB's....he maybe gets out of it. Had he put away Gomez....his SB doesnt become the game winner. Had he put away Lamb....he gets out of it. Alot of things went the Twins way to pull that out.....Papelbon didnt flat out blow it by walking the guys around the bases or giving up a GW granny.....he was 1 pitch away from game over without his best stuff.....hardly "bad". -

How long till someone makes a thread "Anyone concerned about Papelbon" Minus the hard hit ball to CF, I liked that I saw in Aardsma, and Oki was his usual self. Minus the hiccup of Pap, bullpen looked good. Go get them 2morrow Paps. -

Howd Igawa manage today....Im sure that must have been a spectacle. Im really pulling for him, such a nice guy and all.... Wait whats that? The games over? 6ER in 3 IP? Shoulda wore those sick aerodynamic sunglasses, he may have made it through the 4th....or at the very least it would improve upon the whiplash he has from all the balls whizzing by his head. -

David Dejesus is an example of that.

You and I had a discussion about this before. I really really really dont want Greene. As much as I trash Lugo for his shortcomings, hes a better offensive player than Greene. He gets on base more, actually....Greene is completely against the FO offensive philosophy. Last years HR outburst is looking like a complete fluke, and hes hit only 1 this year so far. Lugo runs circles around Greene on the bases. He is a defensive upgrade. Lugo and Crisp should bring in way more value than Greene, despite their salaries. As good as Lowrie has looked, he may not be at SS in the future. I think he may end up at 3B. So if they acquired Greene, it doesnt make sense bc he will not be their long term option, and there is a chance that Lowrie may not be either. At least Lugo gives a little stability (as bad as it is) for the next few years. I think that if Lugo starts to slip offensively, and continues to boot balls.....Cora may be seeing a lot of time at SS until they find someone else, other than Greene. EDIT: To stay on topic, feel for the guy....class act and I really enjoyed watching him play.

Crespo, thats all I wanted man, I was wrong to compare those two. As I just looked at that I kinda startled myself in what I wrote. I did already say that I was never a Cabrera guy, and you proved it there......I was wrong in comparing the two and kudos to you for pointing it out. The reason I keep bringing up Renteria is because he was the one guy I actually wanted, REGARDLESS of his struggles in his only season here. May have I been wrong in hindsight, yes, most likely, but being a fan, especially of a team so popular....doesnt that just make for good conversation and debating?....isnt that the whole part of being a fan and talking to fellow fans about a team that you really enjoy watching? Besides that posting of the BR numbers, I still maintain i have been pretty consistent.

Crespo... on 06/07/06 I actually said this about Renteria: "I think the bigger mistake was the Renterria blunder. First of all, offensively he had a pretty solid season, defensively he was a mess, but from all indications of his career numbers and post-redsox numbers...those 30 errors were a fluke. Had Renterria been given another year he may have hit even better and im sure his D would have improved." Again, I said this on the same date, when SOMEONE ELSE claimed him to provide offense similar to Nomar: "The next Nomar? Where the hell did you dig that up, or did you just fabricate it?" On 6/14/07, I had this to say about Lugo: "I say we have to stick with him. Hes absolutely awful......but we seriously need some stability at the SS position. I dont want to get rid of another, then the following year say once again..."man we shoulda just kept lugo" just like i did with ocab, renteria, and now agon. His track record shows he will come out of it.....and we are the best team in baseball.....lets just stick with him a little longer and hopefully we are rewarded like the way we have been with Drew and Pedroia and Crisp lately. All 3 were pretty terrible at some point, and have all turned it around." On 08/07/2007 I had this to say about Renteria: "....that, or the fact that the guy almost has 2000 career hits and is only 31 years old. Or the fact that he is a very good defensive SS save for his season in Boston. Maybe its the fact that hes a very good baserunner. It could also be the fact that his career OBP is .001 shy of .350. He had a bad year. I would love to see him still in Boston. he averages 161 hits a year and 70+ Rbi. I take him any day of the week over Ocab or Lugo." On 08/07/2007 I had this to say about Renteria and Lugo: "Definately.....and we all thought we were giving Renteria wayyyyyy too much money, only to give Lugo assloads to hit .220 all while Agon had a solid offensive year." Looks pretty consistent to me.
-
Yeah, that worked out for him haha. Too bad too, he put up some really good numbers before Boston, and fell off the map since.
-
I didnt mention Nomar once. I said that both were better offensively than Lugo. I never once said Lugo will provide more than any of them. I didnt backtrack on Cabrera either. I said he was better than Lugo both offensively and defensively. I said I was not a Cabrera guy.....how you got your opinion of what I meant, I dont know. I said I was a Renteria guy......again, do a little research on these boards, and that will back it up. My opinion of them does not switch on a daily basis. Ill restate what Ive thought all along: I never once mentioned Nomar......ever. I really have no clue where you got this. I have never been a Lugo supporter. I would much rather have had Renteria or Ocab. I was not sad to see Ocab go.....although, like my grass is not greener on the other side statement would indicate, either of the two would be preferred today. I appreciate now what those two brought to the table. They were both very good players. I am not backtracking on Ocab, I thought he was a good player....I just thought Renteria would be better, and it did not turn out for the best. Go back through the old threads man. If you can find anywhere where I said that Lugo would provide the offense missing since Nomar (and again, I have NEVER brought up his name) I will admit I am wrong.
-
If you call that flip-flopping, that would suggest that I was once on Lugos side, so you would have to provide evidence of that. While I may not have been a big Cabrera guy, and I wasnt vocally sad to see him go, if you do a little research here....I bet you can find some posts of mine where I was a Renteria guy.... I have never been a Lugo guy, and you can search these forums all day long for that. I think a statement that can be made about Lugo that is more appropriate is that the grass is not always greener on the other side. You cant really call people flip floppers over Lugo, because there werent very many people who agreed with the deal since day one.
-
I just think this is a classic example of wrong guy wrong team. Lets look at this logically. What was Theo thinking? Its easy to second guess now......but I mean, Cabrera was far superior offensively and defensively. As much as Renterria gets killed for his lone year here, he was a much better offensive player.....and at this point Lugo is on pace to shatter those 30 errors (10 in 33 games!). Alot of us did not like the move when he made it, but we thought maybe Theo knew something we didnt......but he didnt, and almost everyone knew this was a bad move from the get go. I would much rather see a struggling Lowrie than Lugo, because I think Lowrie gives more defensively, and if he develops at all offensively, he has a chance to at least give what Lugo gave last year (.237, .294, .643), and that worked out well for us.
-
Man will wake have a problem with that....he does not like to pitch in relief, although he is likely to accept it regardless.
-
I agree with this.....risk reward here. Tavarez is pretty popular in the clubhouse. If they get nothing for him, which is more than likely then they shouldnt do it.
-
I was really hoping hed make it to 50 years. Why wouldnt a team out of contention later in the year let him appear in just 1 game? What could that have hurt...... Maybe he didnt want to go out as a sideshow/novelty.
