  1. I used the proper tact. I said it was "interesting", not "HE'S GOT A NO-HITTER GOING".
  2. And just like that it gets much less interesting.
  3. Interesting game so far for Mark Buehrle....
  4. It's not out of the realm of possibility. When he's healthy he can sling it like he did last night, and that gets you in the conversation.
  5. Post your flames and lames here. Four games in.... A - Greenville Stroup - out last year with an ACL injury - 5 IP, 6K, 1 BB, 1H, 0.00 Ranaudo - anyone ever head of this guy? - 5 IP, 4 K, 1 BB, 3 H, 0.00 Couch - 3/4 arm slot RHP living primarily off his sinker (Masterson redux) - 4 IP, 5 K, 0 BB, 1 H, 0.00 A+ - Salem Drake Britton got kicked in the teeth in his first start. AA - Portland Stephen Fife - 5 IP, 1 K, 1 BB, 3 H, 0.00 Brock Huntzinger and Stolmy Pimentel started off the year throwing battting practice in live games. AAA - Pawtucket Rich Hill and Scott Atchison started off the year 4.2 IP and 8 K. Okajima has allowed no runs in 2 appearances. Nothing else of interest going on. Miller still has no control. Bowden is meh. I'm curious about what they can do with Hill.
  6. A good trade chip is his ceiling with this club right now. He's not taking over 1B. Gonzalez is better at everything, still in his prime, and you figure they extend him so he'll be here for quite some time. If Anderson has a hot first half in AAA like he did in AA last year and Gonzalez has been extended, I think you'll see him moved for a good RP arm - which, invariably, they'll need at the deadline. Keep it up, kid, you need to bring back a good arm for the bully.
  7. Post your flames and lames here. Four games in... A - Greenville Jacobs (1.643 OPS with 3 HR) and Brentz (1.444 OPS w/ 4 XBH - 1 HR) off to very hot starts A+ - Salem Nothing to report (only 2 games in) AA - Portland WMB with a 1.533 OPS (4 XBH w/ 1 HR). It will be nice to see him follow up on the improvement he showed last year and live up to his billing. Rough start for Lavarnway. Dent is looking like another Jason Place - a high draft pick that gets dropped from the system before hitting AAA. AAA - Pawtucket Good starts for Lars Anderson (.385/.500/.538), Iglesias, and Navarro. Rough starts for Kalish and Reddick. I'll make one of these for pitchers in a little bit.
  8. Sprinting out of the gate in his first full year of pro ball... .500/.500/.944 - for an OPS of 1.444 w/ 4 XBH (1 HR, 1 2B, 2 3B )
  9. On fire to start the year in Greenville.... .429/.500/1.143 - for a 1.643 OPS, 3 HR, 1 2B, 1/1 SB/CS, 3/3 K/BB
  10. Man, this weekend was brutal in the TB category for me. JM (that's a700, right?) got 34 bases on Saturday, then ARod sits Sunday night when I'm down by 5 bases. Must have been a Queer as Folk marathon on.
  11. Oh, I don't know, he still lands premium tail.
  12. When was the other one?

    PGA Tour 2011

Well, in the end, he would have had to shoot a 63 just to make a playoff. I can think of 3 strokes he left out there - the awful lag putt on #4, the 3 footer for par on #12, and the missed short eagle putt on #15, but not 4. What about McIlroy, did that guy blow up or what? That triple on #10 f***ed him up so bad between the ears it wasn't funny. He's a young guy, so some mental lapses should be expected on that stage, but wow, that was ugly to watch. He 3-putted from 5' on #12, and it was all between his ears.

Tiger saves par with a lengthy putt at #9. He hasn't found the hole like this since he was married. /rimshot

McIlroy misses his 3rd putt inside 5 feet in the first 5 holes. Falls back to -10, tied with Woods and Schwartzel.

    PGA Tour 2011

It's Sunday on the first major of the year. Woods is in unfamiliar territory making a charge in a major on the final day. McIlroy at -11 on the 4th. Woods at -8 with an eagle putt on the 8th. They started at -12 and -5 respectively. Watch out for Charl Schwartzel who started at -8, got to -11 by holing out from the fairway on the 3rd, but made a 3-putt bogey on the 4th. Looks like the back nine will be kind of interesting.
  18. Mac as a rookie... http://i.cdn.turner.com/sivault/multimedia/photo_gallery/1001/mark.mcgwire.rare.photos/images/mark-mcgwire(3).jpg I think he easily gets to the 500 club on his own. And prior to public knowledge of the steroid era, 500 HR was a lock for the Hall.
  19. McGwire hit 49 as 23 y/o rookie in 1987. He had the goods to get in on his own.
  20. The trouble with these coversations, IMO, is that the players that are being held out were, for the most part, talented enough to get in without the enhancement. There's also the very large possibilty that their enhancement wasn't too much of an "edge" over the other guy given the pervaisive nature of use throughout the league. To me, players like McGwire, Bonds, Manny, Palmiero, and Clemens are sure fire HOF players without an edge based on their talents. I can understand the writers desire to protect the sanctity of the Hall, but I agree with a700. One of these days, there will be case where the writers crack, one will get in, then the flood gates will open. In all honesty, it's not much of a travesty at all. Most of those riding the flood tide would have made it in anyway, IMO.
  21. Not true. Pedro lost his heat when he got hurt in 2001. He was a different pitcher after that, yet in 2002 and 2003 he still pitched a full season with an ERA+ over 200. When he won with the Sox in 2004, he was Pedro Lite like Schilling was in 2007. And, like Schilling in the 2007 postseason, there was some good and some bad, but he could still pitch.
