  1. i think this sets in motion Patterson's departure. Who knows? He could be more successful calling a new park his home.
  2. I really dont think they are looking at any backup catchers as the market is currently bare. Ken Huckaby was signed to a minor league contract under the guidelines he had to catch Wakefield's knuckleball every fifth day. Keep in mind, the Sox let Wakefield have a say in who to get. Spring training we will basically see Shoppach and Huckaby battle it out for opening day roster. With Graff back at 2nd base, they can move Loretta to shortstop. That wouldnt at all harpen Pedroia's chances of making the majors since both Loretta and Tony are just signed thru 2006. And whose to say if they have tony on board for $1.5 milliion... Do you think from that, they will then be strapped of signing anybody?
  3. okkk but Pedroia wont be ready until 2007, and Machado is looking moreso to be a career bench player and start the season off in Pawtucket. Cora delivers great D, but is more suitable as a bench player behind Graffanino. Tony would be paid $1.5 - 2.5 million for the 2006 season, so i wouldnt call him an expensive player to have.
  4. delcarmen and hansen were already set to have a chance in the bullpen in 06, even if Sox kept Bradford on board. I agree with recent reports saying they will start the season off in Triple A. Even if Wells were to stay, arroyo or papelbon would still be shifted to the bullpen anyway. So thats not much of a shocker right there.
  5. Im a little surprised about bradford being cut by the Sox, wasnt a reason behind Mike Myers not being resigned as "we already have a specialist in bradford"?
  6. 6 games vs Boston, 0-2 record with 1 save, a 5.40 ERA (4 ER in 6.2 innings) ------------ besides that. doesnt this give the yankees now a 13 man pitching staff?? At least one pitcher is deemed to be sent off. Randy Johnson Mike Mussina Shawn Chacon Chien-Ming Wang Aaron Small Carl Pavano Jaret Wright Mike Myers Ron Villone Tanyon Sturtze Octavio Dotel Kyle Farnsworth Mariano Rivera
  7. its cool --------- i agree they probably got adrian gonzalez in the trade to entice Boston to get this deal done.
  8. Im pretty sure Otsuka is 33, not 38
  9. The really great move would be as suggested, move Loretta to shortstop and for Tony to retain his starting 2nd baseman role. Or vice-versa. And we arent the only ones who are thinking like that. Sox dont listent to the pinhead Masarotti, you know this would be a better and cheaper solution. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  10. Tony Graffanino isnt committed to a multi-year deal. Currently entering arbitration, he is just signed for 2006.
  11. as had been reported several times already, Miguel Tejada has backed down from his trade demands. Besides... the Orioles were asking the Sox for Manny, Clement or Arroyo, and a top pitching prospect in Papelbon or Lester. The Sox deemed that as them giving up too much, thank god, and said no to that proposed trade. Its close to 100% likely there will be no Manny trade. --------------------------------------------------------
  12. Keep in mind the Sox werent counting on him accepting arbitration, so that wasnt in their forseable plans. I'll be crushed if WEEI and Tony Masarotti are correct about Tony being cut during spring training.
  13. If kept on board, Tony G could be the starting 2nd baseman or shift over to shortstop for Loretta. Cora is already signed thru next season as the 2nd/ss utility player.
  14. This move would also be setting up the Sox infield to decrease the defensive woes we had this past season. Mike Lowell at 3rd, Loretta or Tony G shifting to SS, and Kevin Youkilis at 1st base. Backups--- Alex Cora provides a solid backstop for shortstop and 2nd base. Also what I hope gets done is that the Sox are in the running to try and acquire 1st baseman JT Snow. Would fill the void left by Olerud, hence his 4 gold glove awards.
  15. Im all for this myself. Gonzalez will command more money, and Tony has proven to be more solid at D and have more effective pop in his bat like hitting when there's RISP. I look forward to hopefully seeing him still as #10 in the Sox lineup.
  16. Nah, its cool
  17. 10-4 on my picks so far
  18. i wasnt ripping on you or anything.
  19. Any team that beats the colts to break their unbeaten record is my 2nd favorite team
  20. Did I say that its ok to bash players once theyve been on the team for a little while? No I didnt. All Im saying is you gotta give the guy a chance, and not right away assume him to be a 2006 bullpen casualty.
  21. According to the Boston Globe in a recent report, Marte needing Tommy John surgery was shot down very quickly as false. I'll try to find the link
  22. The question now is: Will the Sox still be seeking in return for Wells, a top setup man? Previous reports had Sox seeking Otsuka or even Linebrink from the Padres in return for their dis-pleasured pitcher. Wells could end up retiring or Boston could have a slight possibility of keeping Boomer for his last season on the contract. Current Bullpen Long Innings Relief could go to Papelbon or Arroyo. DiNardo has a considerable shot if Arroyo is traded away Righty outs-Chad Bradford Setup Men- Guillermo Mota Mike Timlin Rusy Seanez (fallback plan to take over closing duties) Closer- Keith Foulke According to Gordon Edes and several other reports, the Sox want Hansen and DelCarmen to start the season off in Triple A to work on their mechanics
  23. agree that Manny could show up whenever he feels like it. His wife, "Yoko" Ramirez probably already has a schedule down if he stays in Boston
