  1. Florida Marlins have been the busiest this week. Today adding 2 veteran players to their roster, infielder Willy Helms and catcher Miguel Olivo http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051230&content_id=1287867&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  2. if Minaya wants Manny that bad, he will do whatever it takes, Heilman or not in the deal
  3. true, but the deal i had thought of would be better than parting with those 3 untouchables that they think they deserve.
  4. http://rays.tbo.com/rays/MGBVRMIZTHE.html Haha I love how the article is titled, Devil Rays Having Trouble Finding Trade Partners If the Devil Rays FO needs understanding to why no one wants to deal with them, then they really do need help mentally... Lugo, an average shortstop owed $5 million for his last season on his contract is not worth giving Papelbon, Marte or Lester. Why cant they get over their last place selves and accept this trade if any: Red Sox get Julio Lugo, Joey Gathright Tampa Bay get Bronson Arroyo, Kelly Shoppach, Abe Alvarez
  5. mlbtraderumors.com Id be very surprised if Chicago were to deal off McCarthy.
  6. I was just brainstorming while on one of my daily walks I do, and thought of something. When Cubs missed out on the chance to re-sign Matt Clement, some of their F.O. looked at it as a mistake of not retaining him. Would it be plausible for the Sox to offer him in a trade? Cubs get Matt Clement, and cash considerations or Tony Graffanino Red Sox get cf Corey Patterson, ss Ronny Cedeno
  7. I really dont like Meche, he hasnt shown anything to even be a proven #5 starter. The last two seasons has produced ERA's of above 5, and his home park is SafeCo field, a pitcher friendly park. I shudder thinking of him pitching half or more of his games at Fenway Park. Im also conifent going into the season with Youk as our everyday 1st baseman. He hasnt really shown to be an error threat at all; theres a reason why he's called an OBP machine; barely strikes out; a full year of starting will increase hitting skills and might be able to mash somewhere from 15 - 20 Hrs.
  8. Well said, I had been to Papelbon's major league debut against the Twins on the day of the trading deadline. I didnt know what to expect but s how was put on me for sure. Papelbon quickly etching himself in Red Sox Nation's thoughts with his 7K performance in 6 innings allowing 3 runs; back to back HRs from Olerud and Ortiz; followed by the much replayed moment of Manny coming out to pinch hit to an uproarious standing ovation before and after he had drove in the game winning run. Schilling complimented that with his 1-2-3 save in the 9th.
  9. the thing about this trade, we would be gaining a shortstop and big bat in Manny's void but also then would be in need of a left fielder as well. There has been speculation that if the Sox think Marte is ready for the majors, they would put him in the outfield. Thoughts?
  10. actually in the yahoo! sports article it says he is primed to be the successor to Luis Castillo, the Marlins' former 2nd baseman who was traded to the Twins.
  11. My boy Pokey Reese; and Joe Borowski who played for the Cubs/Devil Rays have both signed with the Florida Marlins. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-marlinsmoves&prov=ap&type=lgns
  12. ok, who runs this mlbtraderumors site? Him leading the rotation including Schilling and Beckett, in wins?
  13. That does put me in a conundrum. Beckett or Prior, Id be happy either way, just cant decide on who Id want more in Boston. ---------------------------------- another trade scenario? ugh. I cant wait until baseball is on my TV again, every weeknight at 7 pm:(
  14. ive got tix for his first game, right by the yankees dugout as well. Me and my friends will have vented up enough agression by then that it will be pretty hard for us not to boo at him.
  15. Be interesting to see a Beckett vs Millwood opening day pitching matchup. Boston had swooped in on the failed Marlins talks to nab Beckett from Texas, and Texas did the same to Boston on Millwood when they werent budging from their proposed offer.
  16. Be that as it may, the Marlins gave Boston a potential ace in Beckett, a gold glove caliber 3rd baseman in Lowell, and a reliable setup man in Mota. Papelbon, rather than Hanley has proven himself in the majors and is already a lock to be in the rotation or in the bullpen as a setup man. Seattle is offering a center fielder who in his first full season, hit just .254 and 3 HRs. And... Gil Meche, who will tarnish any rotation he enters. His home park has been Safeco Field, a pitcher friendly park as they come. The past 2 seasons he has produced ERA's above 5, I dont even want to imagine him at Fenway Park. Simply put: Reed & Meche for Lester or Papelbon is a big lopsided trade proposal in Seattle's favor, and something even the Sox FO would laugh at when they heard the proposal. "If" actually said happen, there will be riots outside of Fenway Park.
  17. if you are talking about seats at Fenway, then yes I am. Besides I get my tickets through my friend who gets free tix from his company, and occasionally get some good deals on ebay. Already have tix for 3 games, including a certain game on May 1 right by the yankee dugout as well. Rebuilding mode or not, I wont lose the faith for 2006 not just yet.
  18. Sure thing The other player being of course Bernie. Hes like what Bill Mueller was to us, a soft spoken guy and hell of a player who doesnt really try to start anything
  19. Thats a god move. Cairo is a good player to have as a utility fielder, and is a hard nose player. One of the members of the team in recent years I hadnt even thought to boo at.
  20. well said elsrbueno
  21. oh yeah please, loretta or tony at ss will be so much worse than renterria id take them any day over Julio Lugo who averages 20+ errors a season. And over Gonzalez, who they are both equal to when playing shotrtstop and can hit better than the T-Ball hitter he has proven to be.
  22. if you johnny damon is worth $52 million over 4 years, that gave me a pretty good laugh. IMO even if Sox were to match that offer, Johnny wouldve still chosen to go to New York. How did they downgrade at 3rd base. Mueller is my boy, but Lowell is actually better defensively. Hence the gold glove he won this past season. And with Fenway Park, I expect for him to give the same or even better offensively than Mueller's 05 stats. Getting Mark Loretta for Mirabelli was a steal. His contract just runs through next season, bridging the gap for Dustin Pedroia. A 2004 All Star, he has proven to give solid D and pop in his bat. And yes it is sweet to see a world series MVP against the Yankees and potential ace, in a Red Sox uniform
  23. The veteran of the Sox, Tim Wakefield comes to mind. His contract runs through with an option for 2007, giving him a possible 13 year career in Boston. Nowadays that is unheard of for a player to stay as long with, and loyal to one team.
