  1. good to hear, an actual Sox signing. A great one at that. Snow will bring of course reliable "D", some pop in his bat still, and from what I hear a good clubhouse fit for Boston. ------------------------- interesting from Gordon Edes
  2. I think its possible Vince Young could be drafted by the Titans, if he's not already scooped up by then. Young was discovered by Steve McNair at his football game when he was a sophmore in high school. McNair has been privately mentoring him ever since. He could retire or opt to stay for 2006 to mentor him as he makes the transition from college to NFL ball.
  3. Its not just the Sox FO who believe that Damon will break down in 4 years' time. Shows I watch including ESPN's cold pizza, have also discussed that.
  4. The Sox knew Damon wasnt worth that much and didnt want to end up overpaying, stood firm at 4 years/$40 million. Damon is as much at fault for leaving, as the front office is. So dont give him a free pass, and expect a big standing O for him during his first at bat back in Boston. Yes we will see how his offense is over the course of his contract with NY... 66 career games at Yankee Stadium 67 hits in 266 ABs (.252 avg) (.301 OBP) (.346 SLUG) (.647 OPS) 2005 at Fenway .335 batting avg, .383 OBP 2005 on Road .298 avg, .341 OBP Sports analyst on NESN has predicted for his first season---.292 batting avg, .352 OBP, 12 HRs, 75 RBIs
  5. Furcal got $13 million per season, which is what Damon got. Do you think it wouldve been smart of the front office to match 13 or even go higher than that? My opinion is that they sacridiced by doing the right thing, 13 or more per season is just too much for Damon at this stage.
  6. Most of us agree on Loretta leading off because in 137 games when he has led off, .298 batting avg with a .365 OBP. Lorett and Youk should give a good 1-2 combo of batters who can get on base before Ortiz and Manny. Either way is fine for the top 2 of the batting order.
  7. They also did the same for Wakefield last April, extending his contract by 2 years through 2007 to avoid him hitting free agency. Hearing that Ortiz could be locked up for 4 or even 5 more seasons gives me a lift in this otherwise frustrating off-season.
  8. it shouldve been added that Papelbon has induced the best splitter of the crop
  9. Ok now Im pissed, I think they are just playing with Boston now. If all it took was a lesser known minor leaguer to acquire him... then Boston could have easily done that trade with Chicago.
  10. With Wright, Pavano and any other questions they might have for 2006. I guess its good to stockpile Triple A system with "just in case" pitchers. Im sure he could do a good job for YES, anything's better than "Seee Yaa"
  11. Good to hear, lets lock up Papi. He's a true Red Sox who believes in staying with 1 team for a long period of team like his curent teammates in Wakefield (entering 12th season), and Varitek (entering 9th season). Trot as well, who is so far likely entering his 9th & final season in a Red Sox uni. if he's not able to turn things around. ------------------------------------------------------
  12. sorry to burst everyone's bubble from foxsports, apparently Manny denies ever saying those quotes. Or it might just be his agent trying to spin things in his favor in hopes of more $$$, which I thinks is the case. Didnt he start demanding a trade after he hired this new agent?
  13. yea i think that this should put forth a rule for the Sox FO When Manny asks for a trade, dont take him literally. Because he will later spin a 180 on that request.
  14. well of course Hansen is going to stay in the bullpen... i havent heard anything of the Sox evenconsidering him as a starter, or anyone on here suggest he should be. As for DiNardo, there's a chance he will be with the team on opening day as the long innings reliever/spot starter

  16. dude whoa calm down, I know how things work. Like I said before, I want to see him start. "Lets be real here", there is still a possibility that they might have him start the season off in the pen. Gordon Edes, Tito, Dave Wallace, and Tony Masarotti have all brought that up once or twice. I'm not denying the sick stuff this kid has to start games.
  17. eh id still have cruz over werth. He has more pop in his bat, good speed, and is a former gold glover. 18. Boston Globe big yes to Duchscherer, if Sox dont have to give up much for him. Garcia I wouldnt mind that much. But Kennedy and Saarloos are too erratic for me. Kennedy has had his fair share of seasons with ERAs above 5 or even 6. He bodes a 4.91 ERA with a shoddy 35-51 record Saarloos is nowhere near a strikeout pitcher which does not compare to the current staff we have now. Take note that in 2005 he just had 53 Ks in 160 innings pitched. He bodes a career 4.80 ERA, and 160 innings pitched is the most he has gone to.
  19. boston globe I didnt think Id say this, but gotta love you Sox front office. Theyve locked away their elite prospects and hiden the key from interested teams
  20. Theres no doubt about that, trust me I feel the same way. But its not up to Papelbon what role he will have for the 2006 season, its up to his coaches and organization. Keep in mind, a possibility of him opening the year in the pen. Either way for this season, he can strengthen the staff from both sides.
  21. Papelbon, as noted by Gordon Edes, could also be a distinct possibility to become the closer
  22. Keith Foulke, regardless of his shoddy 2005 performance, he should be given a chance to regain his 2004 form. If that high ERA and blown saves creep up again. Try and deal him off mid-season and have a handful of selecions of Timlin, Mota, Seanez, and even Hansen to take over closing duties.
  23. if sox trade papelbon, im leading a riot to fenway park
