  1. I agree. I think Crisp could be here for quite awhile. The sox know his value quite well and they know he hasn't played up to his potential this season. They never said this guy was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. in fact, they could very well be planning on having him as the #4 OF in coming years, with another OF acquisition and/or Ellsbury becoming available. Crisp as a switch-hitting, speedy 3 position OF would be a great #4. They aren't paying him an absurd amount for a #4 OF.
  2. I can't wait till Beckett goes to baseball fantasy camp over the winter and learns about pitching. He could be good if he learned that pitches other than fastballs can be effective.
  3. Is that really the best we could do? I hope not. It would be like getting another Mike Lowell or Loretta. Good player but not someone that is going to make a huge difference.
  4. Both of them please! Is there a ready closer for the 'Stros that would make Lidge's departure appear immenant? Lidge would be sufficient as a CP replacement. However, I hope that moving Papelbon to the rotation is not supposed to be seen as a big SP acquisition. I hope he slides right in and they pick up another #1 or #2 caliber starter. I don't think Paps will be nearly as dominant as a SP, though he will be a high quality #3 I think.
  5. I'm aware dude. C'mon, I watched EVERY inning of EVERY start he made last year. What I was saying is that this implies that they will need to get a closer who can replicate his production. I'm unsure of who that could be.
  6. It will be interesting to see how the sox prepare to have Paps be a starter. He's SO good as a closer.
  7. I'm pretty sure you're skipping 08, but here's my 08 roster (with a liberal dose of Matsuzaka) Matsuzaka (27) Beckett (28) Papelbon (28) Lester (24) Bard (23) or Buchholz (24) Lineup could be: Ellsbury Youkilis Ortiz Ramirez Pena Varitek 1b/3b SS Pedroia perhaps with Crisp as a #4 OF/Platoon player.
  8. This is essentially their 06 post-June rotation, isn't it? Lester won't be back.
  9. Very nice, very nice. They have a good team. The more I learn about Kottaras the more I like him as a prospect for the future. I know he hasn't been hitting that well but catchers more than any other position need to develop the behind the plate skills as much if not more than offense in order to get a starting gig. He's apparently got some good power.
  10. Hmmmm, nobody home huh?
  11. Are Mr. Crunchy and Rician Blast the same person?
  12. Hey, doesn't Adam Dunn play for the Reds?
  13. I don't like looking at wins as a measure of a pitcher's overall value. It relies too much on the team the player plays for. Arroyo has now played on two extremely good teams. Don't kid yourselves, the Reds are a decent team in the NL. I bet they're as good as Texas or Baltimore.
  14. I think the MVP should be the player who is the msot important player relative to the rest of his team as well as to his team's success within the league. Therefore, if the Guardians had made the playoffs this season I would likely have said Hafner. Since his tremendous performance didn't have the mythical quality of keeping his otherwise mediocre team in the playoff hunt, then he probably doesn't deserve MVP. If he plays on an excellent team then his season doesn't have to be mythical it simply has to be very very good. Jeter is having an MVP caliber season. So is Ortiz. So is Dye. It definitely could go to Ortiz though. He's having a season that's as good as last season, and there is nobody putting up A-Rod type numbers. The sox may not have won enough to make him MVP, but he has done all he can, that's for sure.
  15. Clement and wake are both 12-14 game winners and they ain't going anywhere any time soon. don't worry, we have plenty of #4-5 starters for the next few years. You looking for a few more of those guys too? I hear Jamie Moyer and Mike Boddicker are both available too. Look guys, Arroyo wasn't going to be the pitcher of the future for this team. He just wasn't. You can look at it in two ways: either the Red Sox did something stupid giving up this guy for ONLY Wily Mo Pena or The red sox were smart. They somehow got this guy to resign for much less than his value and (because of that cheap contract) they were able to trade him for a guy who has Ryan Howard type power and who is still very young. I see it as the later. It was either Sign and Trade or let him go for nothing.
  16. I'm mostly keeping my eyes on Kottaras and Ellsbury, for what its worth. Ellsbury is probably my favorite prospect at this point.
  17. Seadogs advance to the Eastern League (AA) Finals. Brandon Moss hit a game winning shot in extra-innings for the victory: http://www.portlandseadogs.com/2006scores/por9090.html
  18. That's funny. I get the feeling there are still as many people on this board, just not posting during games. Jeez, I posted for a few minutes but I had to distract myself with something OTHER than watching the game because it was so f-ing bad. So I just surfed the net (yeah, I'm cool :harhar: ) instead. I'll just say it though: this team is as dead as any Sox team I've seen in awhile. I can't wait for next year!
  19. prove me wrong trot! nevermind.
  20. Time for a big shot Manny. It's been too long.
  21. Clearly they are much shorter. The minutia of these games don't matter as much. Last night's game was very exciting and worthy of discussion, yet they blew it. Tonight's game has been good, but it doesn't really matter if they win or lose (beyond this particular game, that is).
