  1. The most disappointing thing about all of this is that people will still dog Lester if he gives up one or two runs here. 6-8IP with 1-2ER or less, and no walks should be more than enough for the Sox to win a game. If they lose 1-0 or 2-1 people will still act like Lester was giving up bombs to every other batter.
  2. Craig Counsell has taken dumps that would get more XBH than Nick Punto.
  3. The Red Sox' shenanigans are cruel and tragic.
  4. I swear to God, I'm going to pistol-whip the next guy who says "vintage".
  5. I can't believe Nick Punto is still playing. Apparently the threatening letters and E-Mails are not enough. I guess I'll have to cut of Wally's head and leave it in Valentine's bed.
  6. Whoa, yeah, holy crap dude. Good to see you.
  7. Are we really going to start complaining about things that didn't even happen? Can't we just have a nice, happy night and celebrate the win for a couple hours?
  8. Yep, and Kinsler went 0-3. Not to mention Hamilton and Young going 1-4 with no RBIs and Darvish getting roughed up. It's been a good night.
  9. By playing second or short, his standing on one side of the infield has created a vortex of suck. He has to create one on the other side, so the opposing forces will balance each other out and the field will not be torn in half and swallowed up into the giant tear in the fabric of the space-time continuum.
  10. If I were Aaron Cook I would be teabagging the wives, girlfriends, or sisters of almost everyone here tonight. Suck it, haters! No, but seriously, good job by Cook. I know he's not the best, but still, we needed this win.
  11. It's inherited. During World War Two, Saltalamacchia's grandfather spent the entire battle of Iwo Jima asking for directions, then died when a grenade he threw bounced off of the only tree within five miles and landed at his feet.
  12. Hey, I'm from a Hartford suburb as well!
  13. I hope Cook gets a win out of this. Maybe everyone can post positive things for a whole minute and a half after the game. I'm not counting on it, though.
  14. Jacko has been here long enough that you should care what he has to say. He may be a Yankees fan, and therefore one of the most detestable human beings on the planet (behind only vegans and whoever cancelled Firefly), but generally his baseball knowledge is insightful and based on logical extrapolation of statistics and observation. Unless, of course, it concerns the Red Sox or Yankees. My point being, don't be a dick to him unless you have to. We all hate everything he stands for and believes in, and hope that one day he will either convert to the Red Sox side of things, or suffer as his fields lay fallow for a dozen generations and his livestock are stricken with plague, but hey, give him a break. Besides, he's right about Napoli. The guy mashes, he's not lucky, he's just powerful.
  15. Cook has a surprisingly good pickoff.
  16. I think that the uncertainty surrounding those suspected of steroid use (Sosa, Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, Palmeiro, et cetera) will push Helton from a second or third-ballot Hall of Famer to a first. He's a definite inductee either way, but the fact that he has never been linked in whispers to PEDs will likely get him voted in quickly, especially if the PED accusations keep the other guys out of the hall. It will be good PR for the HOF and by extension, Major League Baseball.
  17. Under. I say Cook no-hits them.
  18. Gaaaahhhh enough with the word already. Also, I agree, it is disappointing for his career to possibly end this way. However, it is not a given that it is over. Hell, the Rockies themselves gave Jason Giambi about three seasons of playing time after everyone figured his career was over. Seeing Helton with another team would be like seeing Jeter with another team, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Just because the Rockies don't need him doesn't mean that someone else won't give it a shot.
  19. And maybe I can trade the Radio Flyer hanging from the ceiling in our garage for a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. How much cash should I include in the deal? No, in all seriousness, I know most people would love that, but given the trajectory of their careers over the last 3-4 seasons there is no way the Phillies make that deal unless Cherington has pictures of their GM making out with a transvestite on a pile of meth, on top of the Holocaust Memorial.
  20. It was 10-0 after one. That was the game Charlie Zink started. The final score was 19-17, the Sox got a late HR over the monster from Youk to win it.
  21. Also, not to stray too far off-topic, but I agree that Valentine sucks.
  22. It always seems like Shakespeare is the only writer from that era that anyone knows/cares about outside of avid readers or literary scholars. There is a small amount of evidence that Shakespeare himself wrote a play based on one of the storylines in Don Quixote.
  23. A Don Quixote quote? You are officially my new favorite person. The fact that both volumes are not required reading for high school students everywhere is a source of fury for me at times. I wish I had the patience to learn a foreign language. I have often thought about learning Spanish specifically to be able to read it in the original language.
  24. Every time someone on this site uses the word "irony", the twitch in my eye becomes more pronounced.
