  1. I do not condone violence against children, unless it is to teach them not to be Yankees fans. Welcome!
  2. Sometimes this team makes me want to slap someone around or kick a puppy. I have been more optimistic about their chances than anyone, but every day it gets harder and harder. I wish I knew what needed to be changed, so I could complain about it with authority. This is depressing.
  3. Look, I'm not necessarily saying he's going to suck, but holy crap, take of the Yankees goggles for a second. "A defensive upgrade and some speed" is not the "at worst". "At worst", you get a guy clearly on the decline who barely gets on base and can't hit more than singles. "At worst" you get a guy who performs so badly that he has to be benched. There is no way you can say the "at worst" scenario with this guy is a positive thing. I'm not at all saying he WILL suck, in fact I think Yankee Stadium will do him well, but don't act like there is no way this could possibly go wrong. Every time someone thinks that you end up with the Titanic or the Hindenburg or Godfather III.
  4. Definitely. Ichiro is one of the few guys in the MLB I just always assumed would retire with the same team. Like Jeter.
  5. Is there any team better at just bending over and taking it from the stronger ones without even trying to fight back? I mean, I'm trying to be optimistic, I have been all season, but it's becoming increasingly difficult when this happens all the time. They need to figure out if there is a root cause of all of these problems.
  6. Still, seeing him go to the Yankees is sad. It's like when Burt Reynolds did that Uwe Boll film.
  7. I don't know how many ways I can say I hate the Yankees. This is unbelievable.
  8. Okay, I was just wondering how a day in which I was violently beaten (not in a good way) and lost a job interview could possibly get any worse. This is apparently what I get for wondering. f*** you, universe.
  9. After the day I had today, the Sox had better win or I swear someone is going to get brutally murdered.
  10. Joba celebrated his recovery by eating a horse trough full of lard and injecting meth directly into his eyeball.
  11. I can't give up. The Sox are an important part of my life. Yes, things are bad now, but I have to believe in their ability to turn things around.
  12. I still have 20 years to go to get to 45, and about 29-30 years before I have 45 years of baseball. I defer to your expertise.
  13. I was about say that I am dreading you becoming more insufferable now that you were so on the money with this prediction, but then I relaxed because I realized that there is no way for you to be more insufferable about being correct than you already get. Better than being insufferable when you're wrong, and not admitting it! You are a wise man.
  14. I'm still shaky, that's for sure, but I also still love the Sox and I can still see the good in this team. I just wish I knew what the hell was wrong with Lester. Beckett has always been like this. Weirdly streaky. It's been obvious he has already passed his peak, which was likely the 2007 season. I accept what he is now and I think he can still be serviceable if he pulls it together enough. But Lester...I don't get it. It's like he's a completely different pitcher from the one we saw in 08-most of 2011. It's scary.
  15. Oh, it was SCM33. Okay dude, I take back the middle fingers. But still, Atchison has proven he can be invaluable in long relief. Melancon just sucks. Dude, the first time was so good I'm pretty sure I would have agreed to almost anything. Emily is amazing in every way. But yeah I let the combination of love and lust go to my head and let it seep as optimism into my view of the Sox. I still think it's possible though. I will never give up on this team. I always believe they have a shot.
  16. Does anyone remember who was suggesting we keep Melancon and cut Aitchson? I'd like to reiterate my stance on that to them, except with more middle fingers.
  17. My shameless homerism makes me want to say that Dustin Pedroia might be able to do it. But no, I don't think it will ever happen again. Much like 30-win pitchers, the 56-game hit streak, and Ripken's consecutive games streak, I think .400 is a thing of the past. Todd Helton might have been able to do it a decade or so ago, but I don't see it ever happening.
  18. Okay, you need to chill with the thread-making. I'm folding these all into the Gamethread.
  19. Hey! I love that song! It's a little creepy when you realize that he wrote it about a girl who was like 11 years old at the time, but still, I love that song!
  20. If anyone could find a way to lead in all of those categories simultaneously, it would be Nick Punto.
  21. Salty is also leading the league in two other categories. Consecutive PAs with a K for catchers, and pissing me off. I mean, I defended the guy a lot and I still wish something would change, but the bottom line is that he just allows himself to hack at anything once he gets going. It sucks because you can tell that with the slightest bit of discipline he could be a great offensive catcher and he's not inept defensively as it is. Anyways...I feel like he'll be around for the rest of the season no matter what, and I'm rooting for him to get it together.
  22. If anyone can throw a triple play ball when it's most needed...
