I find it heartening that the Sox are apparently unanimous in their dislike of Valentine. I certainly dislike the guy enough.
Whether or not you think they are 'whiny prima-donnas", the point remains that, like Emmz said, if no one respects the coach then that can poison the clubhouse and by extension, the play, much more than any supposed "cancerous" players. I had my issues with Francona, but I firmly believe this team would be doing much better were he still in charge. He may have been General Sedgwick rather than General Grant, but Petey, Gonzalez, and everyone else loved the guy and played their asses off for him. The collapse at the end of last season was a collapse all the same, but I never got the impression they were playing lifelessly like they seem to be now. I hate basing my opinion off of my own limited observation of events, but this report doesn't tell me that the players are at fault, it tells me that the manager is.
