  1. Come to think of it.....they did deal away there future last year to make a run at the playoffs.... why wouldn't they do it again?? this time involving bigger names especially when they add an ace like Pedro and are looking at a closer in Baez...hmmmmm
  2. Ya know either way....Bellhorn and Tony G.....neither will be the determining factor of this teams success. I know we gotta talk about every player and the slumping ones but... The 2005 Boston Red Sox will be determined by the abilities of Curt Schilling to take back his role as ace of the staff and Keith Foulke to get back to form as a dominate closer. The rest of the pieces will come together in some shape or form....but Foulke and Schilling are the major factors (unless players are added)...not Mark Bellhorn
  3. They really are worthless aren't they. I've deffinitly come to that conclusion. One night they tell you one thing then the next its the opposite...and everything they say for the most part is there opinion....which is worth just as much as the opinions on this board. Sidney Ponson and Phil Nevin will deffinitly be traded. No they won't I saw that coming a mile away. Why would Nevin have been different this time around. At least Gammons has some insight...but I've seen him make plenty of mixups as well. I don't believe too many teams are talking at the moment to anyone because they are hacking away at deals and trying to figure something out....they certainly arent talking to the baseball tonight guys. They will say the same thing as everyone else. Manny's contract is really big and hard to move. Well no s*** thanks guys. The Red Sox have talked to the Mets but a deal is unlikely....considering nobody is in the war room with either teams...its impossible to know...until sunday at 4pm or whenever the deadline is.
  4. Exactly! I said before if the Sox were able to dump Ramirez in the beginning of the year they were going to attempt a run at Adrian Beltre and JD Drew. Now I know most of you say HORRIBLE! But things may have been different....its hard to predict. I think JD Drew is a hell of a "baseball" player when healthy. The point though is they were more aggressive if they didn't have all that money tied up...they are already aggressive can you imagine how much easier Theo's job would be. Interesting note about Kevin Millar. I didn't think about that but its a possibiltiy as well. Only thing I would say is if you deal Manny and Millar...the OF is pretty shallow but I think I would be alright with Kapler and Stern filling in...since Theo wouldn't let it stay that way for long. Not to mention me and elsrbueno have been dieing to get Millar's fat ass off this team for a while (I dont care if he is on a streak he will go into a big funk again, I promise!) I doubt if any deal were to go down that Theo would open more holes. He is trying to fill in the holes for another run at the World Series. Its amazing how many Red Sox players have been linked to possible trades...Manny, Stern, Millar, Mueller, Shoppach, Alvarez, Sanchez, Youkilis, Wade Miller, Arroyo, Embree....2 days left
  5. All I know is this.... Omar called the Red Sox immediatly when stuff popped up about Manny being potentially traded. Since Larry was on WEEI...the Red Sox front office has not been around to comment and has not been returning phone calls. Something is probably going to happen! Is it the Mets? Not positive but a good chance since the Mets front office hasn't been around either. It is possible the Sox are talking to the Phillies and not the Mets while the Mets may be talking to the Devil Rays...I'm not sure its crunch time for teams to get stuff done over the weekend...... Now here we have Manny....a problem with the media and off the field? sure I'll agree to that. Do other teams care? not if you are the Mets because a majority of your team is made up of players like Manny Ramirez. The off season money issue?...at the time the NY Mets were aquiring the likes of Carlos Beltran and Pedro Martinez. Are they doing the job? Pedro is good and Beltran is not bad but this team is still struggling offensivly. Why trade for Manny now when you could have had him for nothing? Becuase they could rid themselves of a longterm deal put in place for Carlos Beltran and pick up a three year deal with Manny that would certainly improve there offense. The problem with baseball is that not everything happens perfectly. Teams try to come up with a cheaper way in the beginning of the year to handle problems and fill a team. Beltran (although expensive) looked like a world beater and was less money. Now what does it look like? He looks overrated where Manny looks like a sudden nice fix for the Mets. Not to mention the Mets have 2 CFs. .....soooo many questions and things change quickly in baseball. Taking on Manny with that salary is not necessarily a move that a MLB team wants to take on at the beginning of a season...they want to try other forms first. Look at the Sox bullpen...at first glance I said....we have a potential stud setup man in Matt Mantei if healthy and John Halama is a great alternative to Alan Embree.....some things just dont work the way as planned. the NL East is wide open and Omar may feel Manny is the key ingredient to jump ahead and win this thing now....he probably didn't think he needed Manny in the beginning of the year. David Wright would be tough to get but I honestly think thats the type of player it takes....otherwise...why would the Sox do it??? If they can't get caliber players like that for Manny....then he isn't going anywhere. You cannot replace Manny's bat in the lineup but at least they could get close. All I'm saying is if Beltran or Wright is not in the deal....I see Manny hitting 4th in the Sox lineup for the rest of the season. ....and im sorry for the rediculously long post lol
  6. Because he is not latino....just gotta say it how the Mets see it......Manny Ramirez is a huge marketing strategy for the NY Mets. Think about the players Omar has brought in....it was made by design for them to be latino because the majority of Met fans...are latino David Wright (as good as he is) will probably not be as big a fan favorite for the Mets as he would for other teams. Again though...the Red Sox fans downplay the abilities of Manny Ramirez....he is a top 5 hitter in baseball....that is something you dont take lightly and just throw away....in order to obtain a "Manny Ramirez" caliber player...it will cost you a future star or a current star.... this crap about Mike Cameron, Cliff Floyd, I heard Tom Glavines name....is just not true....if the Red Sox were to trade Manny Ramirez if would involve David Wright or Carlos Beltran
  7. ok ok here is what im trying to piece together.... Arroyo, Shoppach, and Youk package is on the table for the Phillies....it would involve Wagner... Ramirez and Mueller would be a possible package to the Mets for Wright and Benson.... there is a chance Benson could then turn around and jump toward Florida in a possible last minute pacakge for AJ Burnett ....there is also a good chance that NONE of the above happen lol....but its fun to think about
  8. Manny Ramirez + Kevin Youkilis = Carlos Beltran + David Wright
  9. Very true but...when the trade deadline is over and we see what team is placed in front of us to make a run....we have the lead in the division at the moment and are looking to repeat....just gotta hope everyone comes together like last year and plays some great baseball...i doubt everyone would suddenly hate Manny or something because the guy hits HRs...the most exciting thing in baseball
  10. I've been hearing that they are talking a lot about this on WEEI. Part of me says that it will blow over....but if the Sox have a chance to get rid of him they may do it. They have been trying to for a while and Theo REALLY wants to free up that money. The Boy-Wonder is excellent at making deals and would have an easier time doing it with more money. I hear what elsrbueno is saying about Wright but I really feel Omar wants to win now. Adding Ramirez bat gives them the best offense in that division to go along with potential Cy Young winner Pedro Martinez. It may even give them the best lineup in NY. I can see where Omar would actually make this deal. It would hurt the Red Sox offense at this point but that might be ok. This would allow more room for Theo to make last minute deals for pitchers. You gotta think if this went down and say he was able to move Youk/Manny/and cash for Wright, Reyes and a prospect....all of a sudden players like Pedroia, Mueller, and maybe even Hanley...become more available....better chance to claim Romero and more money to sign Damon plus a long term contract with Burnett who they could step up a notch with more players to move....so many more pieces could fall into place if moving Ramirez. .....I dont think we are rating Manny too high. His batting numbers are incredible every year. He just won the MVP of the playoffs....the Red Sox are dealing with more issues but when it comes down to other teams....they just want a bat in the lineup....there isn't another bat close to Manny Ramirez in this trade market. In fact....there isn't a single player with the credentials close to Manny Ramirez in this trade market....this may be the ultimate time to trade him
  11. I agree, Kapler is a great guy to have on your team...but he's really just "average" when it comes down to it. No problem having him on the team and I would be ok if he split time with someone even. The offensive numbers will just not be there in the end. Love having him back though
  12. I'm actually going to disagree with you on this trade. David Wright is the key to any Manny Ramirez deal. Without David Wright I would say no. Jose Reyes is an excellent player....but when losing one of the greatest Red Sox hitters of all time....you would have to bring in a guy who will now be a leader and face of the Red Sox. He is deffinitly going to be an all star....but the Red Sox are trading an all star (arguably the best hitter in baseball). Leaving the Mets to deal Cameron and giving them an outfield of Ramirez, Beltran, and Floyd. Omar is drooling over that possibility and I think he wants to win now. Everyone says that team should build around the young players. I don't really see it happening because of his interest in Manny, Pedro, Hernandez, etc....look at the players he goes after. They are all older...he doesnt want to wait. Golden opportunity to grab one of the best upcoming players in baseball and who I consider to be a team leader and big game player for many years. Get David Wright and I say deal Manny!
  13. I would take David Wright and Jose Reyes. That would open up so many potential moves for the Sox.
  14. Red Sox president Larry Lucchino confirmed Thursday morning that Ramirez recently asked the team to trade him. Furthermore, he told Boston sports radio station WEEI that the Red Sox will make an attempt to do just that before Sunday's trade deadline: "Certainly, Manny's name will come up from time to time in the next 72 hours," Lucchino said.
  15. Not that I would be against it but we could use a strong setup lefty
  16. There is no way Pavano gets traded to the Marlins for Burnett. How would the Marlins give up a trade for Arroyo and Sanchez and take Pavano. That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. For starters, Arroyo is a better pitcher than Pavano and costs a ton less. I think its just something to be put in the air since the Yanks have been dead quiet for a change.
  17. hard to say what they would have done in a different environment. I was never a huge Beltre fan....but I think JD Drew is a hell of a player if he could just stay healthy
  18. haha nice Bull Durham mix, I love it
  19. .......hahahahahaha keep digging NY
  20. I can't believe I am going to say this but..... I heard the smallest of rumors about Manny Delcarmen our future closer? Its early and hard to jump to conclusions but its possible. Meaning, if he shows more good outings (maybe 8-10 more innings) he could get thrown into a possible closer role. He does throw hard which is important but this is what I gather.... Closers are really not being dealt. A few days left and we will see but if the Sox don't get another closer and Foulke isn't ready, expect either Timlin or Delcarmen to get a shot as the closer when Schilling goes back to the rotation. That may come soon since Clement is hurt but there is the possibility Papelbon gets brought up too. other notes: Youkilis is killing the ball in AAA and is probably ready to take over for Mueller if dealt for a lefty reliever. What does everyone think about Petagine?? Shouldn't he at least get a shot??
  21. I think he should get the start....what better way then to bring the kid in against Kansas City. Best chance to succeed in his first start and would give him some confidence. Then if that confidence were to continue he could jump in the bullpen. Delcarmen should not be the first and last call up for the Sox. Youkilis needs to get called back up after he is destroying AAA. Hansen may get a chance as well. Lets have the kids get a chance to save the Sox depth.
  22. Good showing and he isn't our top pitching prospect....i hear from some people he is more like our 4th behind Papelbon, Lester, and Sanchez....then we have to see what Hansen looks like too. It was only the Devil Rays but if thats how our young guys look....gooood times
  23. I would trade Manny to the Mets.....as much as I love Manny his contract kills the Red Sox with so many deals. I heard a rumor they Sox would have added Adrian Beltre and JD Drew last offseason if they could have moved Manny. He would hurt our run production....but would give the Sox a lot more room to make moves and add more players that can help. The only deal to the Mets I would really want would involve David Wright. The guy is a star in the making and a great leader for such a young age. I would love to have Beltran too...hes numbers are down and he cant hit like Manny...but he plays amazing defense and since recovering from his leg injury....is really starting to pick up some speed.
  24. haha yeah i hear him all the time....before Ortiz i remember he would make fun of Johnny....they even showed him once and he had a fake beard. I could hear him calling Wells a "fat-ass" and stuff....but whats great is the heckler is a fat ass too
  25. There it is...good quote
