  1. Giambi and intelligence do not go together. This guy is not smart and never has been. Not to mention I think he seriously struggles with the pressure that comes from NY so I would not be suprised if he was back on them. BTW...steroids can be mentally addicting just as other drugs. Didn't you watch the South Park episode with Jimmy in the special olympics
  2. I would have still loved to see AJ Burnett in Red cause I think he has the potential to be one of the best pitchers in baseball. I'm impressed with Sanchez...but he has a ways to go to be in the same class as Burnett
  3. The way things are looking I would rather have Sanchez than Hanley
  4. isnt it always like that? play your division in the beginning of the season and at the end
  5. Just so we keep a complete open mind about this....Curt Schilling was sent before Congress as well. We know McGwire and Palmeiro did steroids, there is a great chance Sosa did steroids. Now that Ryan Franklin tested positive you just never know. However, it some cases I don't think steroids are bad....it is a drug used to fight certain injurys and such. That was always my argument with Lance Armstrong. If he took steroids...it probably had something to do with getting his strength back...he was fighting cancer after all. ...I've seen enough of Jason Giambi to know this is too far fetched. Its interesting how I never hear him say much. A lot like Palmeiro didn't say much when he hit 3000 hits. Almost like he knew it would blow up in his face. Very strange
  6. We won't know until he is tested properly
  7. I wouldn't expect big names to go through waivers. Last year I think the only big name was Larry Walker. You may hear some small low key names but nothing that will be of any significance...what you see is what you get this year. I doubt these teams will change much, which I am ok with. I like this Red Sox team and although they won't add outside players....they can do a lot of upgrading internally and still have players coming around to fill there previous roles.
  8. I don't think Wright would be your answer in the bullpen. Other than Mo, Gordon, and Sturtze its hard to do much in the bullpen. Not to mention we may find Wright won't be throwing as hard after that injury. He reminds me a lot of Matt Mantei...hard thrower but no movement. What the Yanks need is a good lefty...so do the Red Sox....I would be shocked if either was able to add one at this point The Yanks have a big advantage at the closer role but the Red Sox have a big advantage with bringing up young arms. The difference between the two is Foulke has the opportunity to contain the closer role while the Yanks...won't be able to find much young pitching to call up.
  9. This is all wrong to begin with: Starting Rotation: edge Red Sox -Wells is heating up for the run to October. I've seen enough of Johnson this year to know Schilling is better in the big game when he is fully back in the rotation. The real Wade Miller is about to stand up. A healthy Pavano and Wright are still not very good. Matt Clement vs. Mussina is a battle to see who can last the longest before the opposing team starts to kill them (Yanks and Red Sox eventually get to them). Wakefield is the man, Brown is a chump. No need to mention Leiter, Chacon, Nomo, Small..... Bullpen: edge Red Sox Mo is awesome but a healthy Foulke can get saves as well. Timlin is better than Gordon...numbers dont lie. Mike Myers is our lefty...who is yours?? Alan Embree?? case closed. Batting: edge Red Sox (this is the fun part) Red Sox (hits:1015 / runs:570 / AVG:.281 / OBP:.358) Yankees (hits:986 / runs:567 / AVG:.276 / OBP:.355) Fielding: edge Red Sox who's playing CF? Varitek or Posada? Red Sox: 63 errors Yankees: 64 errors
  10. I think the best signs are the pitching is doing a better job. David Wells is playing very well and Wade Miller gave us a true glimpse of what this second half may be. Bronson Arroyo struggled from time to time as did Wakefield but they had good moments as well. Clement struggled and got hurt but lets just hope it doesn't effect his play....and these young guys coming up look pretty good. This team has a nice streak going and it could get better if everything falls into place. Schilling could lead the way and give us the best matchup everytime he is on the mound. Hopefully Varitek can keep Clement in line so he doesnt fall apart in the second half, David Wells can remain healthy, and Wade Miller can add on to the last performance. That can all happen but the biggest question from here out...... Keith Foulke
  11. Its hard to say if Johnny Helmet was in a slump or not cuase he doesnt play regularly. I think if you gave him enough at-bats....he would hit for a better average and walk more than Millar casue he works almost every at-bat. I originally felt Millar would hit more HRs (maybe not so much anymore). The biggest problem is Millar is a righty and Olerud is a lefty. I would like to have Olerud hit 5th in the lineup while Nixon is out....but when he is back that lineup may be too much lefty.
  12. thats true and kinda scarey. did everyone else feel the same way i did when they saw the testimony?? that of all the people Raffy was the least guilty?? it seemed like he was the one person out of place....and then...wow you are right...anyone could be we already know Giambi did...the question...is he still doing it
  13. What did he do for us in the past? Everytime he went out there I had a sick feeling like it is probably over(I'm not the only one who felt that way). He has NO movement on his pitches. A specialist for Ortiz??? The Yanks dont have anyone who can stop Ortiz and why do you ask??? Is it because you don't have the right pitching matchup??? No, It's because Ortiz lives for the rivalry and comes up in big games....you wanna stop Ortiz??? Walk him everytime he gets up to bat.
  14. I'll bet you EVERYTHING I own that Embree does not strike out Ortiz. The Yanks have no answer for Big Papi and I can only pray that Embree is still on your team the next time we play you
  15. Set it off.... July record for the Red Sox = 14-13 (.500 baseball) A very slow start to the month had the Red Sox crawling into the All Star break. However, being represented by 5 players the AL took the game which gives them home field advantage in the World Series. The Red Sox leave the month of July with a 5 game win streak and leading into August with a series against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park. other notes for July: - the Orioles are out and the Toronto Blue Jays are in - we saw the return of Curt Schilling as he helped keep our sinking bullpen together - we leave July with a 2 1/2 game lead in the AL East - the pitching staff comes around with Wade Miller and David Wells looking much stronger - no Manny trade = bad news for the other AL East teams - the Yankees finish the month of July with a 17-9 record Look ahead to August: The Red Sox have 15 home games this coming month with 13 on the road. The teams they will be playing have an overall record of (451-489). Meanwhile the Yanks will have 14 home games and 13 on the road with those teams having an overall record of (526-466). A big opportunity for the Red Sox to create some room. - Keith Foulke will make his return soon but which Foulke will show up? - Schilling will make his move back to the rotation - can the Yanks get any pitchers healthy or will they look to the additions of Embree, Leiter, Nomo, Chacon, and Small to be the difference.
  16. Yeah there is no way he makes the rotation this season because of one start against arguably the WORST offense in baseball. Very good start none the less and I loved to see the 7 Ks. Too many walks and a lot of teams will kill you when you do that. Good start but back to AAA you go for now. Next year could be very different and there may be a shot in the bullpen this year. Considering we didn't add any relievers its a possibility. I like bringing kids up later in the season for bullpen help because they are geared up and more fresh than veterans who have been through a long season already. The other kid (Delcarmen) I would expect has solidified (spelling ouch!) a spot in our bullpen. Hansen still has a shot and I'm wondering how long until Sanchez and Lester stay at AA until being promoted to AAA.
  17. I would love to see Bellhorn get back to form....get that OBP back up there which would be very important to the #9 spot. You gotta see that at this point he can't hurt us. With a quality backup in Tony G....if things dont work out there is a backup plan unlike before. If Bellhorn can get back to what he did then Tony G would still be of huge importance cause the guy can play almost every position in the infield. Every time a backup goes in for us we don't miss a beat. This team didn't make any moves so they have faith in Foulke, Bellhorn, and Schilling to all get back to what they did before.
  18. I would like to know what Giambi's weight was at the beginning of the season and what it is now. Having the time in a baseball season to workout that much AND play baseball...is not easy to do. I'm curious to know what the difference in weight is knowing if it was realistic to put that much back on in a 4 month span. Watching him before....he couldn't catch up to the ball and wasn't able to make good contact. He was not seeing the ball and even when he put his bat on it....he couldn't muscle it out. Now...almost every ball he hits leaves the park with almost no effort. I have to admit something is a little strange here. His bat speed is up yet his balance still looks rediculous (always has). His power and bat speed is back along with his weight....???
  19. Maybe Wade Miller is being traded??? If Arroyo pitches tonight why is David Wells pitching tomorrow?? Why wouldn't Wade Miller pitch tomorrow since he is being bumped.....
  20. yeah that list meaning nothing to me....all the talking heads of the Globe, ESPN analysts, etc....the only people who know the story are the GMs and Owners...unless they say it...I'm not going to believe it.... by the way....Bronson Arroyo is starting tonight not Wade Miller so: 1) Wade Miller has been traded or 2) Bronson Arroyo is being showcased
  21. The Mets are one of the few teams that can afford him. If there is a will there is a way. If Omar wants him and is willing to make an aggressive move, I'm sure the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets can figure out how to handle money.
  22. Why do you think that?? Did I not mention its an excellent marketing strategy. This is not a racist comment its a smart business comment. He needs to compete against the Yanks and the Mets have a high latino fan base. With the Yanks being down this year its an important opportunity for Omar to capitalize. The Mets are growing in popularity and with an opportunity to take over the NL East and help the Red Sox get more of a chance to knock down the NY champ Yankees...why wouldn't he??? Think in-depth would you please....people who make simple stupid comments without any insight drive me crazy. Omar is a smart business man who has to compete against the Yankees and has done a tremendous job so far....he needs to be aggressive and will continue to be....Theo Epstein is aggressive....that is why I feel this trade could truely take flight
  23. I just hope we can get a Shawn Chacon before the deadline
  24. I have to actually correct myself though because again...Omar was not there...so that was a different situation. I don't know we can debate this back and forth forever because both sides bring up good points. Too many details and too many possible players included....we will just have to wait till Sunday.
