  1. Why would you ever throw a strike to Jackson on a two strike count...? EDIT: And Cano, ugh.
  2. Nice to see Tex get going early ... and A-Rod just missed that one. But the one thing I expect from Jeter is to play smart, and he certainly wasn't on the Martin steal. When the lead runner goes, you go. No one was even bothering to cover second.
  3. I'm not sure they're rewarding pitchers for hitting their spots, or punishing pitchers for missing them. It's possible, but I think it's equally likely that they just get fooled by so much movement from the catcher. The pitch happens so fast, and with the catcher obstructing parts of home plate to begin with (much easier for the umpire to call pitches on the shoulder of the catcher he's looking over), it becomes extremely difficult to make those calls. It's just more evidence to let computers call the game, but that'll never happen.
  4. Not a good decision to go to a 3-2 change in that spot. Make the guy earn it, especially when he can't throw his change for strikes.
  5. CC struggling ... four really hard hit balls in a row.
  6. OK, give me a minute and I'll find someone.
  7. Curtis freezes, then recovers and makes the diving catch. Edmonds style.
  8. Rose has improved defensively, but he remains the least valuable defensive player in their stating five ... which directly relates back to the talk of Most Valuable Player. As is the case with most great players, what Dwight does on the offensive end doesn't just show up in his stats. He dominates games not just by scoring, but by drawing so many extra defenders into the paint that his teammates stare down wide open three after wide open three. But the same holds true with Rose, as his offensive value doesn't just show up in his stats either, and I agree that Rose holds more value on that end of the floor than Dwight. But the gap separating Dwight's defensive value with Rose's is significantly bigger than the gap separating Rose's offensive value with Dwight's, which is why I think he deserves the award.
  9. The point about Rose's defense is a valid one. I'd give the award to Dwight. Almost everyone would agree that he's the most valuable defensive player in the NBA, and he's also extremely important (and dominant) on the offensive end.
  10. I've heard many coaches and scouts say that Iverson, at G'Town, had the quickest first step they've ever seen. AI and Kemba are similar in that they score a lot and make questionable decisions, but Kemba isn't nearly the talent that AI was. EDIT: Didn't realize that I almost copied ORS' post verbatim. But yeah, they probably shouldn't be mentioned together.
  11. Really rooting for Butler to win it all. Brad Stevens, and the entire team, is so likable.
  12. Wow cannot believe Singler is staying in. Coach K feels the season slipping away.
  13. Bad call, spectacular block.
  14. Too much one on one right now from Smith and Irving.
  15. Matt Howard is such a different player than he was at this time last year. Much smarter. If Butler had this version of Howard last year, they probably win it all.
  16. What a half. Watching Derrick Williams and Kyrie Irving on the same floor is awesome.
  17. The one thing though is that while all of these guys are excellent on the offensive end, I think Williams is clearly the best defender of the bunch.
