The Yankees really have a lot of missed opportunities since CC when it came to acquiring another front end starter. This is beginning to look like another one.
But there's a bit of a theme among some on this site that the Yankees just aren't very good just because they're getting some unexpected production from members of their starting staff.
People here essentially laughing at the Yankees chances is funny. They're not as good as the Red Sox, but a 61-41 record with a +131 run differential are pretty good signs that the team is a legitimate contender.
I don't think it's worth giving him up for Wandy. I agree that Ubaldo has a question mark (his velo drop), but his numbers put him on the list of the best pitchers in baseball (as E1 pointed out). And Ubaldo is not just a rental, he's likely to be very good in the years to come.
Ugh, I hope Cashman knows what he's doing. Ubaldo, or a pitcher of similar abilities, seems almost necessary if the Yankees want to have a real shot at winning a World Series this year.
EDIT: In response to the quotes AW posted.
Hughes sucked today. His FB location was terrible as usual, and he was lucky to only give up two runs. Even the Mariners were able to smack the ball all over the yard against him. There is just no question at this point that Ivan Nova is a better option.
Eh, Scutaro isn't exactly a reliable hitter. I like the squeeze play, especially in those kind of spots when you're more than happy with just one run. Get the bunt down and the game is over.
