  1. I feel like Tulowitzki has been coming up small lately. He did get the sac fly to tie the game last night, but it was a great pitch to hit, and you could make the case that he should have done more with it. Then, in the ninth inning, with the tying and winning runs on, he gets a great pitch to hit and pops it up. In the first inning today he struck out with a runner at third and less than two outs. And now, after getting a big RBI double, he makes an awful base running mistake on a ball hit in front of him.
  2. Well that's a first, a good call on a close play. EDIT: Wow, two huge Ks, and he finishes it with a ridiculous 3-2 change. I'd really like to see a fifth game here.
  3. Yeah, for example, I think the Red Sox got really lucky in 2007. They never should have pitched Wakefield in game four, and they were somewhat fortunate that the offense showed up to the degree that it did the rest of the series. Also, after being given a 3-0 lead in game seven, Matsuzaka gave two of them back, and the Guardians were poised to tie the game in the seventh inning (I feel like Joel Skinner doesn't get enough grief for one of the biggest gaffes in postseason history). The way Beckett was pitching that postseason, if he's starting game seven, it's probably over at 3-0. **I guess no one really talks about Skinner's mistake because of all the runs the Red Sox scored in the bottom of the seventh and the bottom of the eighth. But if the game is tied, it might have played out very differently.
  4. I don't care whether they're up 3-0 or down 3-0 to be perfectly honest. We've seen this team blow leads before. If anything, Sabathia should pitch game four so he is available for a potential game seven. You have to play it safe. One of Torre's enormous mistakes in the 2004 ALCS, for a variety of different reasons, was not starting Mussina in game four. If he did that, at least he could have sent back Mussina on two days rest in game seven, to go up against Lowe (on the same amount of rest).
  5. Also, no matter what, Sabathia should pitch game four.
  6. I think Joe Girardi deserves a lot of credit for shutting down Kubel. I mentioned before the series that he had atrocious splits this year, and the Yankees really took advantage of that. With the exception of his at bats against Burnett and Rivera, Girardi made sure that Kubel was always facing a lefty. He left Pettitte in for an extra batter last night to face Kubel. He pulled Hughes early in game one so Coke could face Kubel, and he pulled Chamberlain early in game two for the same reason. He only let Aceves pitch one inning in game two so Marte could face Kubel (even though that was his only hit). Shutting down Kubel, considering where he hits in the lineup, was a huge key coming into this series. Girardi recognized that, and took advantage of Kubel's enormous flaw.
  7. He has been awful for the last month. Over such a small sample size you need to ride the hot hands, instead of letting guys round into form. The guy that hits behind Jeter, and before Teixeira and A-Rod, is extremely important. Damon is not getting it done right now, and hasn't for awhile. He should not be hitting there. However, it's a moot point because Girardi won't do it.
  8. I also really hope they drop Damon in the order, but I know it won't happen.
  9. Have they officially announced that they're going to start Weaver in game two? I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted Kazmir to pitch at NYS in an attempt to neutralize the Yankees' left handed power.
  10. Carl Pavano pitched a no hitter through the 7th inning against the Yankees this year? Really? I've watched most of the games this year, but that must have been the one I missed. Thanks for letting me know.
  11. Lol, I mean, I really don't want to see the game being closed out in the top of the ninth inning tonight.
  12. Seriously Gom? Absolutely awful.
  13. Lol, this really me laugh.
  14. Dodgers up 3-0 early, and Manny looks like he is starting to heat up.
  15. That's fine, but, if you leave Santana in, who has labored hard through five innings while on three day's rest, he might get hit around. We'll have to agree to disagree.
  16. I would not be surprised. This has a bit of a 2003 feel to me.
  17. Burnett was awful against the Red Sox this year.
  18. There are a couple things to consider here. Santana was going on three days rest. We have no idea how much he had left in the tank. Maybe 87 pitches is all he could give them. The other part, which is the most important, is that Grant Balfour came in and pitched two perfect innings. That takes us through seven innings. So even if Santana could have continued, you can't possibly contend that he would have pitched more than seven innings. While it might have been the wrong move, it did not hurt the Twins in any way.
