Johnny Damon is killing this team though. He looks lost at the plate, and a better left fielder catches that ball. Damon struggles out there on routine fly balls, so it's tough to expect him to catch one like that.
EDIT: Chance to make up for it now, though. The last two batters have had good swings against Blackburn.
Yet his wildness continues. I wouldn't be stunned if they went to Marte or Coke to face Mauer and Kubel the next time they bat. So Burnett might only be in this game for five more batters.
Having watched Burnett all year, I'm not confident he's going to be able to keep the Twins scoreless for the next two innings. His command has seemed to abandon him.
I know you guys have taken this "super-negative, Twins suck, there is no way they can win", attitude, but the Yankees haven't gotten very few good swings tonight. They might break out, but there is no sign of it.
Really? He looked OK against Span, but he fell behind Punto (Unreal) 2-0, before just throwing two down the middle, and then hanging a slider which fooled Punto. He wasn't even really close to Cabrera. This is the same Burnett from the 4th inning.
Damon has been bad for the last month.
The Yankees look lost at the plate against Blackburn, which is very disappointing, especially because Blackburn cannot be any swings and misses. They have hit one ball well the entire game. Now AJ has to face 9-1-2 here, instead of the bottom of the order, because of his command problems.
What an awful play by Gomez. I realize that Young probably slowed down, and I don't want to exonerate him, but everyone does. Once Gomez realized he was caught, for him just to give himself up is pretty ridiculous.
The inability of this staff so far to throw strikes to Nick Punto is unreal. Sabathia, Rivera, and now Burnett.
EDIT: I honestly thought they nipped him at first, and now it's the different between facing Mauer and not facing Mauer.
I'm absolutely stunned that the Yankees were given the prime time slot of Sunday, instead of the Red Sox.
Good news for me though, because now there is no conflict between the Yankees' and the Giants.
