  1. 100 million dollar salary cap? That would be ridiculous. You'd see scrubs getting like 3-5 million a year.
  2. I don't think we have enough guys to trade to acquire all 3 of those players.
  3. I heard definitely Giambi possibly Myers.
  4. Why don't you think they came back to you saying "here's our offer from the Yankees?" Lucchino: That's an interesting question but it's better posed to Scott Boras and to Johnny than it is to us. I think that... if you'd like me to guess, there may have been some deadline imposed on them, some pressure perhaps they felt in the negotiation. but we were talking to them as recently as yesterday, Jed you spoke to them last evening or was it late afternoon? (Hoyer: about 7:00 last evening). Source: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  5. I don't think the Sox knew about the Yankees' offer to Damon. From their point of view it sounds like they didn't know about the offer and it came out of the blue. It sounded like they didn't "have a chance" to match the offer. The Sox let this one slip away though there's no doubt about that.
  6. And if you want to talk about that you have to talk about what he did in the 2004 regular season, 2004 World Series and 2005 regular season. He did great things for this there is no possible way to deny that.
  7. So you're just willing to forget Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS that easily. I'm disappointed that he chose to go to the Yankees but I'm not going to boo him because of the great stuff that he did in Boston. He also left on good terms something that I cannot say about previous Boston stars.
  8. As a Red Sox fan I refuse to criticize the Yankees spending habits. We have much more money than almost all of the other teams except for the ones in New York, we could easily be spending that money on players such as Damon etc. We chose to hold back and let the price go down which was the wrong decision in this case.
  9. I'm going to merge this with the other Damon thread. Welcome to the site.
  10. That's what you guys said last year. To me at least 6 of those guys are question marks. I'm willing to bank that out of Small, Wang and Chacon, 2 of those guys won't be close to as good as they were last year and I think it'll be Small and Chacon. Pavano and Wright are coming back from injuries and both were disappointing last year. RJ is 42 and showed some signs of breaking down a bit in 2005, I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks down more this year or has a great year but it could go either way. Moose I think is the only guy you can really say will have a great year next year.
  11. We would not have won a World Series without Damon and I hope that Red Sox fans realize that. Johnny was a tremendous player when he was here and I hope that he is still remembered for his Game 7 ALCS performance. It is not like he didn't want to return to the Red Sox, he did, but the Yankees offered him more money. Baseball is a business to the players first, I think we as fans don't realize that. 4 guaranteed years is something Johnny needed to take because if he took a 3 year deal with the Red Sox there is no way that he would still be productive at his current rate then as he is now. After 3 years he may have been without a job, while now that he has a 4 year deal he can still be paid for that 4th year even if he does not produce or is relegated to be just a bench player.
  12. Well they looked like they were taking a move in this direction last night. The thing is I don't think a lot of players would fire Boras as their agent just so they could join the Sox. They'd rather just take the money and play somewhere else.
  13. No there was definitely some sort of deadline last night. But I think tendering contracts is something completely different because these players aren't automatcally free agents when they're contract expires.
  14. I believe that was for accepting or declining arbitration with players who are free agents. This is different but I'm not sure what the qualifications for this is. I think it may be players who are not eligible for free agency but are arbitration-eligible.
  15. I'm going to merge this with the thread in the rumor mill forum and move it to this forum.
  16. I don't believe they've done it to anyone yet.
  17. He's the #2 WR on the Bengals. I personally think his name would go from armpit to armpit on a jersey.
  18. I personally like Torry Holt of the Rams, probably one of the most underrated WRs in the game, he puts up huge numbers every year, yet never gets mentioned with Owens, Moss, Harrison, Johnson etc.
  19. Don't forget that Dotel may not even start the season in time as he's recovering from Tommy John surgery.
  20. Goddamn Colts, I was really hoping to see them lose today even if I did pick them. The team that showed up in the 3rd quarter was not even close to the 1st half team. Dungy must have really worked some magic during halftime.
  21. MLB- Red Sox NHL- Bruins NFL- Patriots NCAA- BC NBA- Nuggets In that order.
  22. It seems like all the Wells talk has subsided a bit which makes me believe that the possibility that he may stay in Boston for one more year. That being said I still look for the Sox to trade him in February before Spring Training starts, I think they'll trade him to San Diego but I don't think we'll get as much back as a lot of us are hoping for.
  23. Yep that's pretty much how the spread works. If the underdog wins by any amount of points and you picked them then you win.
  24. You sound like that guy from Fever Pitch which is always a good thing. Welcome to the site.
  25. According to Foxsports's Ken Rosenthal, who has been very accurate in reporting breaking deals this winter, the Sox are close to signing right handed relief pitcher Rudy Seanez to a 1 year contract. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5173662
