  1. f*** conventional wisdom. Beckett needs to bat 8th, next interleague game. Oh, and screw JT Snow, Beckett can pinch hit for Gonzalez.
  2. Beckett with a robust 2.333 OPS for the season.
  3. Oh, s***. Beckett is a god.
  4. 5/22- 1 + 2 + 6 = 9 5/23- 0 + 1 + 4 = 5 5/24 1 + 3 + 9 = 13
  5. Could have been one of the immortals. You gotta feel bad for the horse though. His life takes a complete turn in one second.
  6. Anyone else see that Dunkin' Donuts commerical? Terrible. I'll now buy my donuts from Krispy Kreme. Provided that one actually exists.
  7. I don't often feel for animals, but that sucks for Barbaro. He went from potential Triple Crown winner, and retiring to a life of sex, to probably being put down. (due to the break)
  8. This is probably a joke, because people don't talk like this.
  9. All right, I'm conceding victory to you. I would have missed the Preakness completely if it wasn't for that last edit.
  10. You're missing my point, entirely. Hughes HAS NEVER logged those innings before. Any inning he throws after 80, would be his longest season as a pro. Now, you want him in the Bronx, after he has probably logged 120 innings. You figure you probably want him throwing another 20 IP for the rest of the season, and about 10 IP in the playoffs. That's 150 IP for a kid who hasn't thrown over 80 in a season. That's too much of a jump for a kid that young. More than likely, he's going to get hurt. C'mon, don't kid yourself, the Yankees would probably go to you, before they would call up Hughes.
  11. Actually, I did ask an expert, (Jim Callis) and he agreed with me. From Callis', ESPN chat. I found the question on this website. http://ingeorgewetrust.blogspot.com/2006/05/moose-terful.html As for Soler, this is his first professional baseball season. (Cuban defector) I think he probably gets a break, due to the relative lack of miles on his arm.
  12. He's had arm problems, right? Think through this. A 20 year old kid, who hasn't thrown a whole lot of innings. You want to double his workload, and give him the ball in a pennant race? An injury is bound to happen. Hughes will be a great pitcher, but rushing him isn't going to help.
  13. Bad comparison. Craig Hansen was a college trained pitcher labeled by everyone as "closest to the majors." Hansen also had a different role than Hughes does, correct? Oh, and as I recall, Hansen didn't exactly sparkle in his brief cameo.
  14. You probably don't know enough about the Mets farm system to make that point. You can bring up Tabata, but the Mets have a more complete version of him in Fernando Martinez. Phillip Humber is another potential dominating starting pitcher, and even Alan Soyer could make a splash at the big league level this year. Oh, but that's OK the Yankees have Colter Bean who throws an 86 mph fastball and is 29 years old. The rest of the Yankee farm system is in the low minors, we really can't tell what their future is, until they start hitting more advanced pitching.
  15. Yeah, that's not happening. The Yankees would be stupid if they were to bring up a 20 year old kid, and thrust him into a pennant race. The kid hasn't thrown more than 100 innings in one year, and you want him to potentially double that by extending his season an extra two months? That's insane, and a bullet-proof way to severely injure an already injury prone kid.
  16. Verlander's upside is way higher than Papelbon's. He can regularly touch 98 mph, and get it up as high as 101 mph. Zumaya throws just as hard as Verlander, except he, already, has one of the nastiest breaking balls in all of baseball.
  17. Arizona's going to land Willis, so they win the division.
  18. Pretty shrewd move by the Dolphins of Miami. Marcus Vick does have an immense amount of talent, so this deal could look pretty good in about three years. All Marcus Vick has to do is stay out of jail.
  19. 82 pitches is too long?
  20. Pedroia is still fighting a wrist injury, and he is not yet in playing shape. He should be back to a .300/.400/.420 kind of hitter. But he won't be a shortstop. It's still kind of hard to write off prospects when it's only been a month.
  21. The Riv is absolutely correct on this one. No, Pedroia will not make a lot of errors, but he has no range to be a short stop. Also, in case you haven't noticed, Pedroia isn't exactly lighting the world on fire at AAA.
  22. Eventually, aren't they going to have to remove the bone chips from Damon's foot?
  23. All I can say, is that if we are facing elimination in the playoffs, I start the thread. (knocks on wood)
  24. OK, now the Sox will definately lose.
  25. Bret Boone did it once back in 2003.
