  1. I know it's the Yankees, but maybe perfect game mojo? http://sportsmed.starwave.com/i/magazine/new/david_wells_perfect.jpg
  2. The first eight hitters of the Red Sox have OBP of .353 or higher.
  3. I think he throws a fastball, splitter, and a slider.
  4. Why don't aliens eat clowns. Because they taste funny. :banned:?
  5. Arroyo?
  6. :banned::banned: Seriously, I laughed at the joke. :stop::stop:A Horse goes into a bar and the bartender says "Hey buddy, Why the Long Face" :stop::stop:
  7. I was trying yeszir's theory that if you surround a lame joke with smiles it's funny. I didn't work.
  8. :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance: :wtf:Where is Jorge Cantulope? :what::shock::stop::thumbsup::harhar:
  9. Proctor on pace for 118 IP Rivera on pace for 92 IP Farnsworth on pace for 80 IP
  10. Lester's last five starts: 26 IP 1.38 ERA 8 BB's 22 K's.
  11. I haven't been able to access it for 20 minutes.
  12. I only caught the last hour, and they were laying into Clement pretty hard. I must have missed the brunt of the assault. Dale and Holley were much more sympathetic toward Pena, as they layed into Clement as well. You act as if no rookie has ever pitched well at the ML level. I think the FO would have tried Lester had Clement's salary not been an issue. That being said, I'm not advocating bringing up Lester right now. I am, however, saying that if Clement continues to struggle that Jon Lester should be given a chance by July 1st. Different situation right now. The Marlins were in the admist of a massive fire sale. I would say I was surprised because I had heard nothing until the trade was agreed upon. The Marlins, this time want more in return. They want two position prospects, and one pitching prospect. The Red Sox, do not have the hitters the Marlins would want. The D-Backs, or Dodgers could easily outbid us. Jon Lester has put up gawdy strikeout numbers, allows less than a hit an inning, has good control, and has a K/BB ratio of about three. Plus, he was outstanding stuff. Those usually equate to Major League success.
  13. I wonder why he would take that job. Although it's limited, they do have some talent in the minor leagues. Butler, Huber, and Gordon could make up an interesting 3rd/1st/DH combo. As good as those three are, the Royals have no pitching prospects to speak of. It's going to take a long time to rebuild that smoldering piece of s*** franchise.
  14. At 2:52 PM, the Kansas City Royals had chased Mike Maroth from the game. The time seems a bit odd. No way the Royals could have chased a starter in less than 40 minutes. As bizarre as it seemed, the Royals had actually managed to do that. Six baserunners, three homeruns, and six runs later Mike Maroth was removed in favor of Roman Colon. For a moment it looked as if the Royals would easily end their 12 game losing streak. That euphoria lasted exactly twenty minutes, as the Tigers effortlessly cut the lead in half. The Royals led by two in the eighth, and then they ended up losing by five. That's Cub bad, except that's giving the Cubs too much credit. The Cubs would be lucky to score five runs. Back to the Royals, they'll run their losing streak to an eyepopping 16 games by Monday. The Yankees got them at the Bronx for three games. Before Red Sox fans start bitching about the schedule making. I'm giving the schedule makers some props for scheduling the Royals in September. We play them nine times, the Yankees play them only six times.
  15. Kazmir's a more of a power fastball/slider combo. Lester's more of a fastball/cutter/curveball kind of pitcher. I would say he's more of a Andy Pettitte/Mark Mulder kind of pitcher. But, since soxprospects.com already said that, I'll go with Chris Capuano. Both pitches have similar stuff, and similar strikeout numbers. I assume that Lester will break out earlier then Capuano will.
  16. Really? Where? Where is Wily Mo Pena getting crucified? I think everyone pinned that loss on Clement, Pena has been spared by the Boston media. Lester has extraordinary amount of talent. He probably could pitch five solid innings against another big league club. If he can post a 4.50 ERA, that would be terrific. No one is expecting him to be a savior. I'm not saying we should exile Clement right now, but if he has a couple of more bad starts, then why not go for Lester? The Marlins won't trade Willis to us, and Barry Zito is an impending free agent. (though if we could get Zito and sign him long term, I'd pull the trigger) There isn't really another option out there, except Clemens. When are they going to get the opportunity if the Red Sox organization has the same sentiment as you do? Interesting tidbit. Out of 100 eligible MLB pitchers for ERA, Matt Clement ranks 96th. You're telling me that Lester couldn't do better than that?
  17. I disagree The Red Sox wouldn't be betting their season on Jon Lester. He'd be asked to be the 5th starter, behind Wakefield and Wells. The Red Sox probably only expect him to put up a 4.50 ERA while throwing about five innings per start. That's not monumental pressure. Your second point couldn't be further from the truth. The Boston Red Sox are a quality organization. They are loaded with players of elite quality. Just because one of those players happen to be a rookie, the Red Sox are being unfair by parading around a bunch of minor leaguers? That makes no sense. If the minor league pitchers happen to be better than the ones you currently have on the big league club, why not bring them up? If they fail, they can go back to Pawtucket. I don't buy the argument that it will destroy them. If they couldn't handle defeat a first time, what makes you think they were going to be successful major leaguers? This isn't David Clyde we're talking about.
  18. Baker managed the team in '03.
  19. You're telling me that they could have done worse than Patterson, and Perez? Perez's OBP was .298, and Patterson's was .254. Yet, Baker constantly wrote their names at the top of the lineup. Baker could have been more creative. He could have slid Todd Walker into the lead off slot. Walker had an OBP of .355. Not great, but it's still dramatically better than that of Perez or Patterson.
  20. I'll blame Dusty Baker for allowing a twenty-three year old to throw 211 IP in one year, and allowing that same twenty-three year old to throw 138 pitches in a complete game against the Brewers in 2003. Anyone remember the Mark Prior injury? He got hurt, and instead of being coddled, Baker went right back with him. Anyone else remember Baker's lineups last year? He went with Neifi Perez and Corey Patterson at the top of the lineup, all summer. I guess he doesn't realize that you have to get on base to win ball games.
  21. All I can say is What The f***. I got to admit, I'm pretty damn impressed with the Cubs ball club. Getting swept by any team in Florida is a remarkable achievement. Well, they do have some excuses. Derek Lee is out, but why did the Cubs replace him with Chick Gandil? Greg Maddux with Eddie Cicotte? Wait, I'm confusing the Cubs with the 1919 White Sox. There's not much of a difference really. The only way you get swept by the Marlins is if you throw all three games. That's how pathetic the Cubs look. It's only getting worse. Michael Barrett is on the verge of being suspended for 20 games, and the Cubs replace him with Henry Blanco? You could grab nine people from the amputee wing at the hospital, and they could outhit the Cubs. At this rate, the Cubs probably couldn't even beat the Royals. Not the KC Royals, I meant the GCL Royals. That club probably doesn't even exist, but they'd still destroy the Cubs. Oh, and I heard they wanted to extend Dusty Baker's contract. All I can say, is why? They should just contract the Cubs and end the suffering of their fans. With the level of stupidity traveling around the organization, they'll never win a World Series.
  22. Willis won't be coming to Boston. Even if we offered them Lester. The word I hear from Gammons is that the Marlins would want two postional prospects, and a pitcher. The Red Sox do not have those players in their arsenal to temp the Marlins. Maybe Hansen, Lester, and Pedroia would work, but c'mon that's vastly overpaying for any starting pitcher. The Red Sox should stay committed to their prospects. Lester K/BB ratio is just a tad under three, he strikes a batter per inning, and he allows fewer hits than innings pitched. Those numbers tell you, that Lester will probably be a frontline starting pitcher.
  23. Well, I'm sure you don't mean alcohol, because that would be impossible, and it wouldn't explain the other lack of intellect in your other post. Unless you're drunk all the time, which is also impossible. So I'm assuming you meant a 12 pack of this http://www.freshdirect.com/media/images/product/dairy/dai_dannon_danimals_02_p.jpg Am I right?
  24. Can you use stats that are indicitive of the pitcher's performance? W-L records just tell us if the team scored more runs then the other team did. It tells us nothing of how the pitcher did.
