  1. I don't know if it's just me being born in the 70's and watching the Sox in the 80's, but I love the retro uniforms. Everyone just looks more badass in the black and grays. I'd bring them back.
  2. Look at 1992 on. Granted he was 31 by then but his OPS and BA took a big hit from that point on except for a couple of seasons. "Horrible" was too strong a word I guess, but I bet his numbers would have been better with a break or 20. He had hit over 20 hrs the previous ten years, but after 1992 he did that only twice. I'm sure it was a natural progression down because of age, but a break could have helped. A break would help anyone getting on in age. I just remember watching some of those games and seeing how the guy was either injured or in a funk and could really use a day off, but because of the streak he either didn't or couldn't take time off. Edit: damn you crespo. damn you to HELL.
  3. Ugh. This game comes at the worst time. 10pm and I got a meeting tomorrow at 10am. I'm either going to miss part of the game or miss part of the meeting. I'd rather miss the meeting but it's way more important than the game. Thank the Yankees for that.
  4. Well, I doubt that will be his only claim to fame once his career is over. Good run though. It's kind of a selfish stat anyway. Ripken's numbers suffered horribly because he wouldn't take a break.
  5. I only caught the last 3 innings of the 1-hitter, but I was genuinely surprised he was dialing it up to 93-94 there in the 9th. Maybe he hurt himself airing it out? I'd be fine with a DL stint of a couple of weeks or so. But if Schill goes down for any extended length of time, I'm not that high on Beckett, DiceK, Wake, Tavarez, Lester..... yet. We kind of know what we'll get from those guys. The only consistent one has been Beckett and there's still an ounce of me waiting for the other shoe to drop. Wake's Wake. Dice K has basically been Wake as far as consistency - extremely good some starts, so so some others. Tavarez is pitching way over his head right now and Lester will be on pitch counts so I don't expect more than 6 innings out of him right away if much at all. Then again, come the postseason, I wasn't that high on Schilling this year anyway. Pauley/Gabbard and Hansack have all pitched great in the minors, but they all have issues. The one I trust the most is Gabbard and that's only because he's a lefty. I don't know. I just hope at some point a relatively effective and consistent Schill comes back. Theo's already got a bat to get at the trading deadline. Add a starter to the list it's almost impossible.
  6. looks like rain. http://www.wsbtv.com/wxmap/1945706/detail.html
  7. Am I the only one who loves his swing??? When he actually connects it's almost majestic.
  8. I'm sure they would rather trade him before benching him. And it will be Crisp too. Lugo is too new and expensive to bench, but Crisp has been here long enough. I would almost put money on him being traded at the deadline. But sit he will not. That would only hurt his trade value anyway.
  9. You can't just bring guys up to replace starters making 5 million dollars a year. You just can't. I'm not saying I agree with it, but no team does it. I wish Coco or Lugo came up with a mystery injury and until they do, they are here to stay.
  10. Actually, the braves series will be: Braves Schilling vs James Beckett vs Hudson Tavarez vs Carlyle Smoltz pitches tomorrow.
  11. Well, if there's any hope left it's that the dead zone of Lugo/Crisp/Drew are not in the next 6 batters going into the 9th. This is just depressing.
  12. How's this Rescue Me show? I saw an episode like 3 years ago. Any good?
  13. Load 'em up on walks to get to Helton. Brilliant.
  14. Good for him. Totally could see this coming considering how he pitched against the Sox this year. He reminds me of Jason Lee, how could you not like him?
  15. I agree. I was hoping he'd get better but this is the way he is. If it comes down to me having to listen to the Sox on the radio or watching a movie or doing something else, I'm not listening. Welcome to the board.
  16. Haren reminds me a lot of Beckett. I don't feel bad about the game so far, but Tavarez is killing me. The Sox are good to score early (which they did) and late (TBD). Street's still on the DL, right?
  17. Oh, and I know Tavarez put in some good starts for us, but this guy is going to SUCK HARD when he goes back to the bullpen. He is what he is. Tavarez, Pineiro and Romero - one has to go.
  18. Ok, it's time. I'm ready for Lester. I say by the end of the month Lester will be here anyhow. He's up to 80 or so pitches (which is more quality pitches than Tavarez can throw anyway). Just bring him up and let him finish the rehab up here. And it's not a desperation move, I'm just tired of this Tavarez crap already.
  19. I could see Tavarez biting Posada's nose clean off then spitting it back in his face. What's the weather like up there again?
