  1. Oh, the new banner... KICKS ASS!!
  2. I like the new look and feel. That was fast! I'll have to snoop around some, but great upgrade.
  3. I'd have to say the Tigers. I saw Tigertown when I was real young, and it made an impression. Roy Schieder was the man (at the time). The Tigers deserve some respect.
  4. The one thing I think we need is speed off the bench. Last year we had Kapler and then Roberts. Before that we had Damion Jackson. We need a base stealing threat off the bench, and I don't think we have one yet. Oh, and as far as Mueller.... He only won a Batting Title in 2003. He's perfect for Fenway.
  5. That's awesome. I'll have to check it out some more.
  6. You should be gone after this one. Later.
  7. I'd rather see 2090 gone, but both would be a an extra juicy treat.
  8. Welcome to the site! Finally, a Billy Mueller fan around here. He's been terrific since joining the club. And that game against the Yanks.... I can listen to that all day long.
  9. I thought the "juggernaut set to destroy the competition" was set when the Yanks got Arod. hehe.
  10. Sure it does. Some lefties just suck at Fenway when facing the best offense in the ML.
  11. Good question. 1) Because the Yankees (attempt to, anyway ) buy championships. Always have, always will. True, with the current system in baseball, it is entirely within their rights to do so. But it's also why the Yankees are the most despised franchise in sports. It's not that they suck in the standings; it's that they suck because they are a monopoly. And that is not good for the sport. *Mark my words: A salary cap will be in place in the MLB before too long. And it doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, the only reason there will be one is because of the NY Yankees. Yankee fans can thank themselves for this one, and say goodnight to any thoughts of a Dynasty in the future. 2) Yankee fans are the most arrogant fans in baseball. They are fortunate enough to be in the largest media market in the world, enabling the Yankees to outspend any other team in professional sports - yet they cannot be classy or respectful about it. They rub it in. They are not content with just winning; they have to be *******s about it along the way. In 1999 durning the playoffs with the Yankees, did you see Boston fans littler Fenway with garbage because of all the bad calls by the umpires? No, and there were easily 5 or 6 bad (incorrect) calls that completely changed the series in the Yankees favor. This year, when the umpires actually got the calls correct, Yankee fans threw all kinds of stuff down on Yankee stadium. The fans have no class or respect for the game. Unlike Boston/Cubs/etc. fans, who stand by their team through the hard times, most Yankee fans would not be Yankee fans if their team didn't win. I see it all the time. They follow the "hot hand" in sports. 3) They way overpay for their players, which of course they can do. But once a player is overpaid by the Yankees, they are saddled with a huge contract that most other teams cannot afford. It's bad business and basically prevents most teams from acquiring such a player until the contract is up. 4) They ass-kiss the players union allowing agents like Scott Boras to shop around average FA talent as "Star" talent. If the Yankees weren't known for monopolizing players with outrageous salaries, teams like Houston would be a shoe in for a player like Beltran. Instead, Boras will dangle the Yankees over Houston until they give up. Basically, the Yankees are the epitome of everything wrong with Baseball. That's why they suck.
  12. NJ trash, NY trash. It's all the same.
  13. Tino's washed up garbage. In a platoon situation, he'll be lucky to have 15 hrs. And that .265 BA will only drop, but it's still an upgrade I guess .
  14. How can you say he's biased against the Yankees? He's only been a NY sports writer since 1975. Jeez, just because you actually read some non-masterbatorial truth about NY every once in a while doesn't mean he's biased.
  15. Why don't you just sell Official Talksox Nation ID cards? Yes, we need the ignore option.
  16. Like I said, that's all you ever post. Ignore option is officially turned on.
  17. Exactly what statement would that be? All you ever type is: "Um, no" "Yankees in 2005" "I'm gay" If you're talking about that last statement, you may be right.
  18. Ahhh. You've been quoted! http://boards.yesnetwork.com/forums/index....showtopic=28949 It looks like they can't read what you wrote. All those names, all those numbers... I guess they just can't read very well.
  19. I voted for Schilling's sock. That has to be the photo of the year.
  20. Wow. AZ is trying to rape the Yanks... hehe. They'll trade the 41 year old Johnson for: Javier Vazquez Dioneer Navarro Brad Halsey Eric Duncan $8 million This is a great deal for Arizona. Plus, after this deal, the Yanks will have absolutely nothing in the farm system - something that could come into play at the trade deadline next year.
  21. This is so awesome. I only wish I had NESN, you bastard.
  22. Mike Lupica is one of the few NY beat writers who's actually good. Yankee fans hate him because he tells the truth and he's not an arrogant jerk in doing so. Anyway, here's an interesting article he wrote for Sunday. He makes the good point of Torre getting off easy last year after the collapse. He also makes the case that if the Yankees don't win the World Series this year, he may be (or should be) fired. I tend to agree considering all the factors listed below. FYI, Lupica and Bob Ryan are on "The Sports Reports" on ESPN on Sunday mornings. It's one of the best shows on ESPN if you ask me. You should check it out. Joe doesn't get off easy If Joe Torre fails to win the World Series again this season, he will have to answer some tough questions. There is no manager besides Joe Torre who could walk away from a train wreck like the end of the Yankees-Red Sox series, who could be given the resources he is about to be given again and not have his job on the line for the 2005 season. It is a tribute to Torre's complete resume since 1996, his stature in New York City at this time, where he is probably the second most popular, and revered, sports figure after Derek Jeter. But Torre better win this season. Oh, sure. If you consider what the Yankee payroll might be, if you consider a situation unprecedented in American sports, where one team could have a payroll that is $100 million clear of the field, Torre better win going away. Everybody knows what we get from Torre. We get his class, the patience he shows with his owner and his ballplayers and everybody else, we get the only manager who could have lasted this way with George Steinbrenner. And we have all those division titles and three World Series in a row once. In the process, Torre has become the most respected coach or manager in the business now that Phil Jackson is off the sidelines, angling for Lenny Wilkens' job. Torre also gets everything he wants, in a way no coach or manager ever has, in any sport. He gets more players than anybody, and that means high-end players. If he doesn't like the starting rotation one season, they go out and get him practically a new rotation the next. This isn't some big shot at Torre, just the facts of his situation. I have been on Joe Torre's side since Frank Cashen fired him from the Mets a million years ago. But if Brian Cashman is on the line this season, how can Joe not be? This time around he gets a new $7 million-a-year starter in Jaret Wright. He gets a new $10 million-a-year starter in Carl Pavano. He may yet get Randy Johnson and Carlos Beltran. This a year after getting Alex Rodriguez and Gary Sheffield and Javier Vazquez and Tom Gordon and Paul Quantrill. Nobody gets the way Torre does. When that happens, when your owner has spent around three-quarters-of-a-BILLION dollars over the past four seasons to NOT win the World Series, you better not make it five seasons in a row without the big trophy. Torre is already in the Hall of Fame as a manager, the way he should have made the Hall as a player. He already has taken his place in Yankee history with Miller Huggins and Joe McCarthy and Casey Stengel. Nothing can change that, no matter how he leaves the room eventually. Was the collapse against the Red Sox all his fault? Not even close. Does he have to share some of the responsibility? You bet. It was his decision to go with Kevin Brown in Game 7, his decision to bring Vazquez out of the bullpen after Brown, his decision to pull Mike Mussina out of Game 5 when he did. He didn't try to steal a base with a struggling Tim Wakefield on the mound. Torre didn't lose that series, but it is fair to say he didn't do much to help win it after Game 3. Everybody shares in an epic collapse. It was the same way against the Marlins, when Boomer Wells had to walk off the mound in Game 5 and the Yankees stopped hitting and everybody acted afterward as if Jeff Weaver brought himself into the game to throw that home run ball to Alex Gonzalez. Torre's payroll was $130 million bigger than the Marlins' was. He was nearly $70 million clear of the Red Sox. Jack McKeon's team got the Yankees two years ago. Terry Francona's team got Torre's last time. Nobody better get him this time. Nobody stays bulletproof forever. Not even Joe. The Yankees aren't measured in division titles and pennants and neither is he. ================= So the question is, with or without the 230 million projected payroll, should Torre be fired if he doesn't win the WS this year?
  23. That's funny, but did any of us really expect 2090 to actually add anything to this conversation? I don't think so. I mean, we're only talking about Randy Johnson and the Yankees... He's added nothing to any of the threads he's posted to so far, so why expect him to add anything in a thread devoted to his beloved losers, er, Yankees?
