  1. Glad to see the Yankees showing some unity. Sheffield saying he's got A-Rod's back is what I want to hear. It isn't 25 guys playing for themselves out there, and that is important. You people are so narrow minded. Every third word is "steroids". Get a clue, morons.
  2. The kid has great stuff, and it pisses me off that the Yankees skipped over him. He's going to be good for you guys, and don't be shocked to see him come in like K-Rod and run you guys through the playoffs.
  3. Isn't that, you're? When did you take this poll? I'm interested in your scientific data Mainly because he "Plays to win the game" (-Herm). That and he hits for about a .900+ OPS. Entirely besides the point. Fans know they can't reach onto the playing field, and they definitely know they can't hit the players. If it was Vinny from Brooklyn who hit Manny at Yankee Stadium, you would be killing Yankee fans. Entitled to your opinion. Isn't that you're again? Anyway, that's lovely, I'm not here to be your friend. Yet are 2.5 back and could be in 1st place by Saturday. What does that say about the Red Sox and Orioles? Hell, what does it say about the Twins, Guardians, Rangers and Athletics? Not to mention Florida, San Diego, Atlanta and Houston. They're all close to the Yankees in the standings, I believe they suck too. Yes, trading a young All Star 2nd baseman for A-Rod is just reprimandable. Forget it, there is no reason to respect that club. I know! I mean who cares if he's outproduced the entire Red Sox infield. I think you were going for douche bag. Listen just because you aren't that smart doesn't mean you have to start damning people to hell. Maybe just some studying, maybe read up on some Zen stuff to relax a little and you'll be all better. Cocaine's a hell of a drug. It's the same deal with Yankee fans and Pedro. They hated him becaues he was on the Red Sox, and had a different attitude. Sheffield is the same thing. You call him a jerk, but as a Yankee fan I love the fire he brings. You don't get that with most guys who are just cardboard characters, like A-Rod.
  4. Remember the opening series when Rivera's ability was in question, and the homerun Foulke gave up to Jeter was an abberition. Goes to show, making judgements too early can result in egg on your face. Leading me to my next point, if you guys quit on Foulke now, you would be silly. The guy has shown he's got the goods, and he's been hurt. Yes, he should have indicated it earlier, but when he's back he'll be the closer you guys want and need.
  5. I did That's my boy, I should get paid for this stuff.
  6. I've had Abreu going in.
  7. It has been in shambles for a while now, and we're only 2.5 back. It's going to get back together soon, so yes there is reason to be concerned in Boston.
  8. I'm not calling Jeter the best player in the league, I'm just saying he's better than your captain. Payroll has nothing to do with leadership ability, although it seems to get into every single Yankee conversation. Play a new card, we know they're overpaid. Jeter also has statistics that are just about even to those of Varitek, slightly better. You're neglecting to mention the fact that Jeter is missing 3/5ths of the rotation to the DL, Randy Johnson hasn't been Randy Johnson and the division we are 2.5 back in includes 4 competitive teams. Jeter will have 3,000 hits by the time he's done, he'll be deserving. Basically the argument is stupid, since we're arguing intangible stuff here. You've got your opinion and I've got mine.
  9. And if Varitek said it, it would be an act of leadership. Such hypocrites.
  10. You guys wish you had Giambi at first. (I never thought I'd say that again.)
  11. All he's gotta do is knock it anywhere near third base. Giambi isn't fleet a foot either, but there was no play on him. Ortiz could walk on his hands there and beat it out. Best of all, he does that once or twice, it opens up the right side of the infield. So when he's swinging for his doubles and homeruns, the ball has a better chance of sneaking through the infield. Also, I've caught up to low 90s fastballs, and bunted a few as well. I'm sure a guy with his natural abilites could figure it out. I would be more concerned with screwing up fundamentals if he tried to chop one down to the left side. Bunting is a totally different action to swinging and shouldn't affect him. Square to the pitcher and push it up the third base line and it'll pay off.
  12. I think the Yankees are going with Mussina, Johnson, Wang and probably Pavano. It is possible Brown would start Game 4, but he's supposed to come back later on the road trip. It's going to come down to what the pitcher's bring to the table. If Mussina and Johnson both bring their good stuff to Fenway we should be playing with house money the last 2 games of the series. Wakefield and Pavano should be a hit-fest.
  13. They should have, the weather was brutal in the first few innings. I guess with Old Timer's Day and more bad weather on the radar they had to get it in, since I believe Cleveland isn't on the schedule again in the Bronx this year.
  14. He's getting paid to help the team win. If he can steal a hit that way why not? If I can drop down a f***ing bunt, any Major League Baseball player should be able to. All he would have to do is work on it for 30 pitches one day. It is not going to destroy his mechanics, its a friggen bunt. We're not asking him to hit right handed here.
  15. http://www.nydailynews.com/ips_rich_content/506-0711bigback.jpg http://www.nypost.com/img/back071105.gif

  17. Well prove to me he isn't. Statistically they are about even this year, with a slight edge to Jeter. Jeter's got the rings, respect, ability and attitude you want out of a captain. Not being the best shortstop on your team isn't a knock when the guy who is better is possibly the best player of our generation, a frontrunner for MVP, and you are both going to be in the Hall of Fame anyway. Roy Oswalt isn't the best starting pitcher in Houston, I guess he sucks.
  18. Not nearly as much as Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez did. You know, the guys who put up the big numbers in the important catergories. Intangibles and steals are nice, but Slugging Percentage, OBP and RBIs are much better.
  19. Look, I'm just saying I much prefer the idea of hitting off Bronson Arroyo for 7 innings and Schilling for 1 or 2 in a short series. Schilling starting 3 games in the ALCS scares me a lot more than him throwing 5 innings out of the bullpen.
  20. Better than your shortstop, and just as good as your captain.
  21. Gee that was hilarious, way to go. P.S. blow me.
  22. My only logic for this is that Schilling can't physically handle starting anymore and throwing 9 innings of baseball. This makes absolutely no sense, to have Schilling close. Especially considering Timlin can do the job. Either way, it is great news as a Yankee fan. Not only are they not getting their dominant starter back at the break as a midseason pickup, but they are going to put him in a spot where he has a huge chance of failure.
  23. Everyone has made their points ad nauseum. They aren't done, and if they come out of this stretch against Cleveland, Boston, Texas and Anaheim well, they will win the AL East. It is a stupid discussion at this point.
  24. Giambi did bunt a week or two ago against the shift to leadoff the 9th inning, and he got it down perfectly. Bunting is not that difficult, these are big league players with uncanny hand-eye coordination. I'm sure if Papi went into the cage and bunted 30 times against live pitching, he could be ready for the game that night and drop a good one down. Keeping the defense honest will open more holes on the right side of the infield.
