Good post, good info. I agree, I'd be quite content with that rotation as well. Unfortuantely, it looks like they'll be keeping Leiter in the rotation and switch Small to the bullpen. I think Small will be more adept at pitching out of the bullpen, and could be this year's Sturtze. In any case, Al isn't going to be pitching in a playoff game.

Yankees really can't cool off, being that they have not been hot at all, lol. Their September schedule looks very favorable, and it'll be a tight finish. I honestly think they make the playoffs, making up a lot of ground next month. Easier said than done to unload dead weight, but we lose about $30 million in contracts with Bernie and Brown after this year, which provides some flexibility. The problem will be the market has slim pickings, and it takes time to build a farm system. I think the Yankees are making some sort of an effort not to trade off these parts, as evidenced by their quiet deadline. You have to figure Johnson is going to have a few dominant starts sprinkled in down the stretch, and all sources say that Wright has looked electric in his minor league starts. Wang threw off the mound today, and it seems more and more likely he'll be back. Chacon and Small have been Godsends. And Mussina has been the rock. Couple all that stuff with the Yankee offense, and a light schedule down the stretch and I think we're playing more than 2 games in October.

It's fun to pick on the bottom of the barrel in IQs, just keep in mind we're not all that dumb.

cool ys013. I love how the Yankee schedule shapes up after next weekend. Serious hay can be made there, especially if we get back Randy and Wang going into that stretch. It'll be a sprint to the finish.

Matsui started out hot, then started trying to hit homeruns. It was obvious by watching his swing, he was lunging at the ball and trying to pull everything. Pitchers stayed away and they were successful against him. He hurt his ankle making a diving catch, and he was forced to stay back on the ball more and started driving it again. Nothing to do with steroids, all mechanics. Dollars to doughnuts, it's a Latin ballplayer.

So there I am, sitting in the upper deck of Yankee Stadium minding my own business. I'm enjoying what appears to be a pitcher's duel in the 3rd inning, and then all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye, I see a family of four Red Sox fans come and sit right next to me. I started chuckling because I found it hilarious. They kept to themselves for most of the game, started going nuts in the 10th when Chicago went ahead (I haven't seen the replay, but I'm positive the ball beat the runner. Wouldn't surprise me if Posada didn't get the tag down). Kind of annoying, but whatever, it was expected. So we go into the bottom of the 10th, and Posada's up and gets out (of course). They pinch hit Tino, he walks and they change pitchers. I get up on my chair and try to get the guys to stand up and make some noise. Nobody moved. It was like they gave up. It was pathetic, that was the worst part of the day for me. With 2 out Cano hit a shot to right-center, but held up at the warning track to end it. It really seemed like the fans didn't care. I need to sit in the bleachers of Yankee Stadium, with the real fans.

It's pretty useless to speculate, as it can be pretty much anybody. A little off topic, but I'm curious as to what you guys have to say about this.. I think one thing everyone overlooks in the Giambi/Sheffield/Bonds- Balco thing. I hear people often say that these guys cheated. Now, if I'm not mistaken, cheaters are the ones who break the rules. In this instance, there were no rules to break, what they were using was allowed by the MLB. That isn't cheating. It is immoral, yes. But not against the rules, and not cheating. Palmiero getting caught and suspended, that is cheating. I agree, what Bonds and Giambi did was wrong, but cheating wasn't what they did. And we can't have ex post facto laws. It's similar to the Yankee's ridiculous payroll IMO. It's not right and it certainly shouldn't be allowed, but it is. It's not ethical for the Yankees to have a payroll 15x that of the AL Central, but its legal and it isn't cheating. Thoughts?

That's an unfair and biased generalization. How do you know the world even exists. Prove it to me. You're being contrary for the sake of it. Actually I'm believing what ESPN, Joe Torre, Don Mattingly and the entire media has said. Also, out of the entire BALCO s***, Giambi was the most honest out of anybody. All of the 'I know nothing' s*** from Sosa, Bonds and McGwire was disgusting. Giambi came out at the trial with the truth, and apologized to the public for what he did. What more do you want from the man? And that is because you don't know thing one about hitting mechanics . Try not playing baseball for a whole year and having the same impeccible mechanics and bat speed you did when you won MVP. It took March, April, May June and some of July to get his power back. If you paid attention, it didn't all come back in one shot. He had a slow recovery, starting with making contact, and finally with the power. Hell if we want to talk about unexplained turnarounds, let us discuss David Ortiz. Barely adequate with the Twins and now the most feared lefty in the AL. (it's sarcasm)

I know, that's just my opinion there. I admire how he came back from where he was. Fighting back from something like that is one of the harder things someone will ever have to do. He's worked hard to get to where he is now, and I respect that.

Top 5% maybe, not top 5. However, he's quick and has good instincts in center. He makes the team better when he's in the outfield, any offense is a bonus.

I won't mess with the lineup. I debated swapping Cano and Giambi, but this is the best protected Cano will be, so this is the only way he'll see pitches to hit all year. So I'll leave the lineup alone at SS Jeter 2B Cano RF Sheffield 3B Rodriguez LF Matsui 1B Giambi C Posada DH Williams CF Crosby In regards to the pitching staff, all I want is some health. Johnson, Mussina, Pavano, Wang (who I hear may be back! ) and a combination of Leiter/Wright/Brown is all we can hope for at this point. I like the bullpen, and watch out for Aaron Small in the bullpen. I think he's this year's Tanyon Sturtze, he looked good out there the other day. At this point, unless we can get Burnett for Pavano (wild rumor) I don't make any moves and just wait for the pitching to get healthy.

I can't say I'm surprised someone made this thread, but it is one of the dumbest things ever. That's your right, but that is what we call being ignorant. He's worked his ass off with Mattingly, more importantly he's gotten his mechanics back. If you watch Giambi's swing, and know thing one about hitting mechanics you would know why he hits so well. Steroids only do so much, but his eye and mechanics made him a great hitter, exactly why he's back. It was a matter of when, not if. :clap: I agree. I lost respect for him when I heard about the steroids thing, a lot of respect. But he has redeemed himself a great deal in my book, for how he has handled himself and how he has gotten back to this point. He's went through PR hell and physical hell. He's worked his ass off to get to this point, and is a model of how to handle yourself after making a major mistake.

The Red Sox dynasty is over, just live with the struggles of Schilling, Bellhorn, Arroyo and Foulke. That makes no sense at all. The Yankees as a team is far better served with Crosby in centerfield than Bernie. I have nothing against Bernie, I love the guy, but there is no reason to 'live with it' when we don't have to. I still like what Bernie brings to the lineup, and I like him as a DH or if he can learn to play left. The point is, you can't take on the attitude that we'll just live with it if the people aren't helping the team. This is a team that is supposed to compete every year, and if there's a problem it needs to be fixed. No one is immune if they're struggling, and that is how you build a winning franchise.

I'm not somebody who really gets on the Jeters and Torres, but for argument's sake.. It seems like you are taking the attitude that, we used to win so we have no right to criticize what is going on now. The fact that Bernie won a batting title does not help this team now. That complacent attitude is why teams win once. The constant drive for success is how you build a dynasty.

Game, set, match. Curt Schilling is your best starter, and he shouldn't be in the bullpen. He should be starting game one of the playoffs for you. Wells game 2, Clement 3.

They anti-rigged it, since the Rangers had the worst pick out of the 3 chance teams. I'm dying for hockey to come back. Rangers are going to be exciting to watch, they've got a s*** load of young guys. It will be interesting to see how free agency shakes out.
