  1. Believe me, I've been saying the same thing at another forum. I don't like what Johnson has done at all, but there is still that shred of hope that he can fix it. He's been too good over his career to just fall apart now. I do think that he's not getting on top of his pitches enough, causing the loss in velocity, bad location and no bite on his slider. Needs to get the arm angle up a bit so he can be throwing 'downhill' a little more. That will get his slider breaking a little more down and in.
  2. HE ONLY DID THAT CUZ HIM AND JETER ARE GAY LOVERZ! LOLZERS ..sorry
  3. Shawn Chacon will attest to that.
  4. Yes, outfield assists are overrated. Kevin Mench has the same number of assists as Vlad Guerrero, and Vlad definitely has a better arm. People don't run on Vlad because he is respected. It's like football where you just don't throw near a great D-Back. He may not have a lot of picks, but he affects the game. Oh yeah by the way, Ramirez' FP ranks next to last among qualified AL Leftfielders. Rodriguez' FP ranks him 3rd among AL third basemen.
  5. This is the epitome of stupid post. Enough of the cheater ********. It's stupid. If we want to get into name calling we can bring the entire board down. Schilling's a crybaby (Game 1 ALCS), Varitek's a pussy (only fights with gear on), Millar and Damon are attention whores (I'm just illustrating a point). Or we can have an actual discussion about why a player is more qualified than another for MVP, as the thread's brings up. Don't let stupid name calling take away from the discussion. One person makes a stupid comment, and everyone thinks it is open season. The 'slap' play has nothing to do with his candidacy now, and he's still the Most Valuable Player in the American League for 2005.
  6. Who cares, we win.
  7. Williams, 2.192 OPS vs. Towers.
  8. Wow that's nuts. As long as he stays healthy Heatley is going to be a hell of a player. Hossa is a pretty good scorer, but Dany is going to be a star.
  9. Sure he's a legit candidate, but I can't see him finishing higher than 4th.
  10. Facts, examples, numbers! Come on!
  11. Perhaps someone won their appeal?
  12. LOL 1978 BUCKY BUCKNER BOONE! ZOMG THE RED SUX! We can get into a history contest, but that would be dumb and boring. I'm not saying Ortiz isn't a good hitter, I'm saying Rodriguez has been more valuable this year.
  13. Actually, my point is that Rodriguez more valuable. (you know Most Valuable Player)
  14. Isn't that more a credit to the offense around him than the player himself? In fact I think you are making my argument for me.
  15. dontcha think Ortiz only plays a few games at first for a reason? Ok and let's talk about clutch for a moment. I have been on A-Rod's back all year for not getting big hits, but in the overall scheme of things when looking at an entire year of baseball and deciphering the MVP, a homer in the 2nd inning is just as good as in the 8th inning. Clutch takes a backseat to homeruns, RBIs and OPS when picking the MVP. I'll put defense over clutch when picking an MVP. Clutch is too arbitrary and intangible for me to put stock into using it as criteria for MVP. But again, I'd rather have Matsui, Sheffield and probably Jeter and Sierra up in a big spot before Rodriguez.
  16. Would you prefer someone who can hit and field or just hit? Ortiz can't play defense at all, and Rodriguez plays a damn good third base. Since June he hasn't made an error, and has made countless 'Web Gems' robbing doubles down the line. There is more value in Rodriguez than there is in Ortiz.
  17. Rodriguez plays 3rd base, Manny plays leftfield. If you are honestly making that argument you need to play baseball and tell me which position is more apt to make errors.
  18. Playing in Fenway, where there is 32 feet to cover as a leftfielder, he's bound to throw a few guys out! Outfield assists is an overrated stat. Vlad doesn't get many outfield assists anymore, because people don't run on him. People take the extra base Manny whenever possible, so he gets more opportunties to throw guys out. He's done the job by throwing out 12 baserunners, but let's not put him in the defensive category of Vlad and Ichiro. Honestly now, Rodriguez has all the tools and Manny hits. If we're talking a complete player, Rodriguez is it. And a complete player should win MVP over someone who just hits when the stats are comparable.
  19. If he wasn't Randy f***in' Johnson, then no I wouldn't think so. However, he's done it before and he has the ability to do it again.
  20. I don't think he's the most important player on this team by a long shot. I'd much rather have Matsui or Sheffield up in a big spot. However, sportswriters look at stats and A-Rod has got them. Bad start or whatever, Rodriguez is on pace for 47 homers and 132 RBIs, leads the league in OPS and has played very good defense. More than what could be said about the two candidates from Boston. You are going to tell me Ramirez has stats without baggage? An MVP shouldn't be trying to bail on his team in the middle of a pennant race. And the playoff argument is moot, because the Yanks will be playing more than 2 games in October.
  21. And the stats I just provided, what they're just bias too? A-Rod hasn't made an error since the beginning of June, and played solid to spectacular defense at third since. Manny plays average leftfield at best, and Ortiz doesn't bring much defense to the table, does he? I fail to see how there is even an argument that Rodriguez should win it.
  22. Well Gordon and Rivera have gotten a much needed rest the last few days, so I don't expect them to be troublesome for a while. Chacon, Wright and Mussina have put up solid starts, Leiter has been hit or miss and Johnson has been nonexsistent. If Johnson can ever step up, we look pretty damn good pitching wise. Oh, and Wang is supposedly around the corner from returning. I don't care if Wang and Chacon aren't big names, they have saved this season to this point.
  23. Well his defense has been spectacular lately, and is near the top in all the big offensive categories. 4th in average, 2nd in OBP, 1st in SLG, 1st in OPS, 1st in HR, 3rd in RBI, 4th in Runs Scored yeah I'll take Rodriguez.
  24. Boston :harhar: Out of the teams listed, I think the Yankees have everything they'll need to make the playoffs. If Randy Johnson ever steps up, the Yankees will probably take the East.
