  1. Jesus... they are good. Really the only thing that can stop them would be a Brady injury or Moss blowing up the team. I really hate them.
  2. Because obviously Rivera will continue to have an 8.44 ERA all season. Idiot.
  3. 4 wins is a 4 game difference. You expect to win the AL East by more than 4 games? If not, it is worth the investment. Clemens is a huge factor, and will likely be the turning point people point to for the Yankees.
  4. One of the worst calls I've ever seen there costs DeSalvo his chance at a win. Guy was thrown out at second, three feet away from the base, called safe. Followed by a broken bat single to tie the game. Unbelievable.
  5. If he can get out Ortiz as a reliever, he's worth the $46 million.
  6. That was one of the most entertaining playoff series I've watched in a while. I really couldn't be prouder of how the Rangers played that series against the Sabres. They showed a lot of heart, a whole lot that was lacking last season. I don't think you can understate the impact Brendan Shanahan had in that locker room. He helped this hockey club mature ten-fold this season. Buffalo is just a relentless club. I don't know of many teams that can put 40 goal scorers on their third line. I really think that the dogfight they had against New York will prepare them, and they'll finish Ottawa rather quickly. Buffalo has played a real postseason series, Ottawa has faced an uncharacteristically weak Devils club, and an inexperienced Penguins organization. I see a Ducks-Sabres finals this year, with Buffalo coming out on top. About the Rangers, I'm extremely excited about what is going on with the organization. They have more prospects in the fold for next year (Marc Staal, 20 year old defenseman; Al Montoya, 22 year old goalie), who I really think will solidify the club going forward. The experience gained this year in the playoffs will be really valuable in the near future for guys like Girardi, Tyutin, Prucha, Callahan and Lundqvist. 2008 is going to be really special for this hockey club. Good luck to the Sabres.
  7. People, what is up with this payroll arguing? We overpay for Damon, Clemens, Pettitte, you overpay for Matsuzaka, Lugo, Drew. Who cares? The only thing that matters is what is happening on the field. Right now the Red Sox are playing fantastic baseball, that should be the primary focus of your energy. Unless you're an accountant, cut the payroll crap. Let's just play ball.
  8. Also, I'd like to note that my returning to the board has far more to do with the Rangers season ending than the Yankees signing Clemens, playing better, etc. Baseball seasons starts now for me, much later than usual.
  9. This is interesting.
  10. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-blackouts052606&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Looks like you'd be blacked out. Article is a year old, but I don't think anything has changed.
  11. I like this a lot, from a Yankee standpoint. Elaboration later.
  12. It's awfully tough to win in the playoffs without a force under the basket. In response to the tampering charge, I think the Celtics should be forced to forfeit their first round pick, and have it swung to the Knicks. Come on Stern, make this happen. You know you want the Knicks to win for the next 15 years.
  13. Lots of people going WHEW right now. Friend of mine picked the upset, he was ohsoclose.
  14. Cheap shots are not bad ass.
  15. Chris Simon should not play hockey for a very long time. That was a disgusting act. And Hollweg is not a dirty player. He finishes his checks and hustles, but I've never seen the guy swing a stick like a baseball bat at somebody. I seriously will be pissed if Simon is not punished for a very, very long time by the NHL. Absolutely atrocious.
  16. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6548010 Hahahahahahaahha. Props to that writer.
  17. Sweet. I will take it, especially since it only cost us about 20 spots in the second round of the draft.
  18. Considering the health of the Sabres, I wouldn't be talking too much at this point.
  19. Age and salary caps. Forsberg bolted Denver, Yzerman retired, Shanahan left. Not the same squads they were during those classic playoff series.
  20. I like Minnesota if the Rangers don't make it. Good hockey area, and Marian Gaborik is one of my favorite players. If he's healthy, they can do some damage in the spring.
  21. http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/willibe02.shtml OPS+ of 157, 136, 140, 143 is phenomenal. You're telling me Boston wouldn't have fared better in the '99 ALCS if Bernie was patrolling centerfield for them instead of the Bombers. We won two more World Series after we locked him up, and he was a key contributer. The end of the contract he became very average, but I have no regrets keeping Bernie at that price, and I think the Yankees are very lucky he didn't bolt.
  22. There's a difference between muscle weight and fat weight. He may have decreased in mass by a pound or two, but he looks out of shape. The number isn't the issue, how in shape is the guy? How much of an injury risk is he? That's the more pertinent question, in my opinion.
  23. His numbers after he signed his Yankee contract from '99-'02 were phenomenal. '03-'04 were servicable, and '05 was below average. But I can't see how you can say he'd have been a bad signing. Not only was he very good for a stretch of the contract, you would have taken him away from the team that won the division all those years.
