Red Sox Stay Busy, Trade With Yankees For Catcher Carlos Narváez

Sounds like the defensive catcher we need. Apparently, he walks a lot, so he's not a total loss on offense,

ERod had some hopes, but this looks like a good deal.

EValdez was DFA'd to make room. He may end up being traded, but maybe not.

The roster is taking shape, although some parts are still lumpy, as in Chapman as our closer and the lack of a big RHB.

Agreed. I believe one more quality SP plus a good RHB and we could compete for a playoff berth.

Not his pick, high MiLB attrition rates for pitchers, and saw a need for catching depth.

Like every org, the Sox have five other ERCs.  His only distinguishable characteristic was that his name was Elmer…

Also Elmer had been in the Sox system for 3 full years, it's not like Breslow just picked a guy out of a hat, I'm sure his decision to value Elmer as a trade piece was largely built by the internal evaluations of the guys in the Sox development staff who've been here and watching Elmer for those three years. 

ERC was traded for a 26yo catcher with boring MiLB statistics and 15 career plate appearances in the Majors.  I think both sides gave up here.,,

If there is one thing we have a lot of, it's pitchers in the minors who show a little promise- like ERod. (Just not a lot or promise.)

Elmer's actually an Elrod. Sox fans may never see him turn into Soul Man, but hopefully someday he'll get to pitch to Jake Burger.

I don't think it's as bad as you think, but we sure lack the highest promising pitchers on the farm.

We have a nice quantity of somewhat promising pitchers, for what that is worth.
