Hey, George figured out how to get Bonds and Griffey!! And without giving up that much!

He was going to include Jeter and Posada in those deals. 100%

I don't think any of these guys are on track to helping the big club in '25.

Most likely not, but I listed them as outside shots. Certainly, we can't "count on them," now.

Penrod made it from Portland, in 2024.

Apparently not, according to this guy.

https://thecomeback.com/mlb/what-would-george-costanza-have-traded-to-get-barry-bonds-and-ken-griffey-jr.html

But it was going to cost him Sterling Hitchcock, Ruben Rivera, Andy Fox, and some guy named Matt Drews…

Bonds for Leyritz, Bernie, Fox and Drews (seems light to go with Fox IMO)

Griffey for Rivera, Ledee (writer noted Ledee as a can't miss premier prospect, but he wasn't in the Yanks top 10 at the time and still in A ball)

IMO, I think they can get the Bonds deal done, but there's no way that Griffey deal works out. That's just yuck.

Penrod was older and had to be added to the 40 man by the end of the year or would have been a FA. He was rushed and not necessarily deserving.

Yes, added to the 40 but not "had to" to the 26.

Once they added him to the 40, they used him because they were running out of arms by the end of the year. They added him to get him to pitch in BOS to see if it would be worth keeping him around. I think he's closer to Shugart than SoxProspects would like you to believe.

Okay, but when Penrod was added to the 26, we still had a few guys at Woo on the 40, and they chose a previous AA pitcher over giving them a look-see.

Are you impugning the baseball acumen of a fictional character along with a random blogger with no credentials??!?

I’m impugning the blogger.

0 chance we sign Scott

0 chance of Hoffman, as he wants to be a starter

Yates is likely to get just one year, so that is something you'd think the Sox would be all over, but I've heard no rumors of interest. (Not that "interest" matters much with the Sox.)

Estevez or Finnegan might be the best we can hope for.

Some of the others don't get me all that excited, but they may be better than Guerrero or Wilson, our current #7 and 8 men in the pen. Upgrading our 8th man in the pen does not do it for me.)
