Lugo vs Crawford

Duran

Hamilton

Masa

Devers

Refsnyder

Abreu

Smith

McGuire

Rafaela

Masa batting 3rd. I think I like that.

Go SOX!

All but Rafaela and Ref are lefty bats. Lugo isn't just the Royals ace, he leads MLB starters in ERA, 2.21, quality starts, 15, and IP, 122. He's going today on 7 days rest.

Crawford is also having a good season for the Sox. However, as we saw last night, good pitching wasn't nearly enough because the Sox lineup scored just 1 run and gave up 3 unearned runs on the error by Gonzalez.

We're still in July, but I think this game is huge to stay in the hunt for the wild card and to encourage JH to allow his brain trust to be buyers 2 weeks from now (or sooner).

FWIW, KC looks pretty good this year and their payroll is just $116M. The Sox are about as good and ours is $182M.

Lugo getting slightly screwed by the ump who is inconsistent in his calls although the 3d strike on Yoshida was a good call.

Lugo looks hittable--at least, in the 1st inning. But 0 runs despite men on 1st and 2d with no one out. Then Yoshida K'd, Devers grounded out, and Ref lined out deep to CF. Edited by Maxbialystock

Kudos to the much maligned Dom Smith. Of late, he's been effective offensively and defensively.

He has looked better.

We have a lot of batters over.700 since June 1st.

The White SOX have a starter named Erick Fredde, who might be available for some prospects. He's a 31 year old righty who has a 2.99 ERA and averages around 6 innings per start. He has a two year contract at 15 million. He would cost the SOX a total of around 11 mil for the remainder of this season and 2025.

Time for the FO to get serious.

Crawford is one tough hombre. Men on 1st and 3d with 2 outs, and the really bears down.

6 IP, 1 hit, 1 bb, 0 runs, 79 pitches.

Another bunt single!! Then Duran out by a mile stealing 2b.

Devers is shooting for career highs in OBP and SLG.

It was a very long extension, but the guy was just entering peak prime and seems like the kind of guy that can hit in his sleep.

Devers forevers , my friends!

Reamarkably great pitching by Crawford in a game against tough competition. Kudos to him. Just as exciting was the hitting side. 5 isn't a huge score but it's a winner often. Contributions from Smith and McGuire help a lot. Rafaela needs to chill and study his batting videos while taking a few days off. .

I hope people saw Raffy grab his left shoulder on his final AB after a swing/miss. Glad he is bypassing the A-S game . It may be a stretch for him to play out the final 68 games without a rest period, hopefully not an IL stint.

Overall a great game and time to go for the series tomorrow.

I hope you were being sarcastic on Rafaela: the guy hit 1.019 in his previous 9 games. Don’t tweak a thing!

.881 since May 31!!!

Another huge win. Crawford was terrific, and the lineup just as terrific with good defense and 5 runs off the best starter in MLB. Only Rafaela was hitless, which is fine because, just as moonslav says, he has been hitting well.

Note to vegasbob. Rafaela played just 28 games last season, and this season, batting 9th, he is 2d on the Sox in rbi's, 3d in total bases, and 4th in runs scored. His DWAR of +0.6 is 2d highest on the Sox despite the 10 errors. Yes, he can get better, but this version is pretty great to watch.

Tomorrow is the rubber game, Bello vs. Singer. Edge to Royals? Not after what we saw today. Call tomorrow even, another thriller from the Fens.

And of course a shout out to SPLENDIDSPLINTER.

Btw, no one on the SOX is hitting the ball harder than Abreu right now. It took him a while, but he's been banging of late.

He’s got a nice swing.

If he could just learn to hit lefties, he’d be our FT RFer for a long time.

Houck and Kutter have been terrific so far this season. Who the hell saw that coming?

They have been amazing, but those who think wins and losses are the be all end all, they must think Bello is better.

Bello 9-5 (10-6 in his starts)

Houck 8-6 (team is 13-6 in his starts)

Crawford 5-7 (team is just 6-12 in his starts!)

Teams win and lose. Pitchers make a big difference, but their record is on the team
