The judges gave that slide a 9.5.

It was a thing of beauty , and paid off big time when Duran again comes through

Posted

It's not so relevant to Red Sox fans , but are the Angels the most snake bit and self destructing franchise in Baseball ?

Arte Moreno, owner, turns down a $2.5B-$3B offer for a team in a nowhere market ( sub LA) with no real estate to expand upon.

They let Shohei Ohtani go away with NO compensation because they thought a Japanese player would appreciate the loyalty factor over the new contract value.

They keep Trout, who now needs knee surgery , so he will once again miss the majority of this season as he has for multiple prior years. They owe Trout 6 more years at a total of $200MM+, for a guy who will be a DH at best. Untradable now.

The team is already sub .500 and sinking (11-20)

I'll never complain about our owner/FO as long as clowns like this are still operating MLB franchises.

Obviously, clowns are not limited to circuses. Moreno probably also thought that Ohtani would commit seppuka if he had a bad season.

If I told you in March that Wong and Abreu would be top 3 on the team in OPS, would you have said, "You are crazy!"

No matter what you would have said in March I'd still say "you are crazy." Just like the rest of us.

Is Connor Wong the unsung star of this season, to date?

I would agree he is in contention, along with Duran, Houck, and Crawford. The last 2 because there were serious questions about their viability as legit starters

All 3 have been great bang for the buck. The SOX had a previous Crawford who was a terrible bang for the buck.

Crawford and Sandoval, somewhat Hanley Ramirez, may have been the worst signings in quite a long time.

I know at any moment I'll regret this post; however, Valdez looking decent defensively as he settles in it looks like.

Enmanuel has made some plays recently. He is not a total disaster. I think he saved Slaten's 9th last night.

Another terrific win, with the Sox now 18-13, which projects (somewhat meaninglessly) to 94 wins. It's possible the Sox were again helped by jetlag affecting the Giants.

But the simple fact is that the Sox have an almost decent core of hitters--Duran, Devers, Refsnyder, O'Neill, Abreu, Wong/Wright (that's 6)--and maybe others like Rafaela and Valdez who could improve.

And more than that the best freaking pitching in MLB. Crawford did not have his best stuff tonight, and he still went 7, giving up 2.

O'Neill as DH reminds me that on some teams they simply rotate the DH slot around to give position players an easy game.

While determining how many wins 18-13 equates to over 162 is somewhat meaningless, it gives us an idea of how good that record is. Of course, it could go way South of end up being near 94 wins. It is not a predictor of what is to come, but it is an indicator of how good we are playing.

It's hard to have a real clear idea how good 18-13 is, but we have a better idea of how good 94-68 is.

They all have done very well, but we've heard a lot of praise for Houck and Crawford. They've been near or at the top of the ERA rankings, almost all April. Duran seems to have gotten more praise than Wong, IMO.

Back in Shakespeare's time, it was considered erudite to be able to spell the same word differently. You have become erudite in your spelling of O'Neill's name.

I've crossed Casas's name off my list of good hitters because I don't seem him coming back very soon, nor do I expect him to hit as well. Refsnyder is 33 and his lifetime OPS is .693, so I think he will regress to his mean. Nevertheless, like you, I think the Sox lineup might just become decent. Team OPS, .743, is 6th best in MLB.

When looking at Refsnyders numbers I focus on the vs lefty split and recent 2-3 years.

Amazingly, “ O’kneal” is 4th on the team in PAs.

He does not lead in PAs at any one position.
