The baseball books I've read pretty much paint Joe D as an *******. One of his rules was that for him to agree to show up at a Yankems' old timer's day, he would need to be paid $10,000 and he would have to be announced last. Joe D did give me a quietly asked for autograph on my business card in a Miami restaurant . I saw him in a Ft. Lauderdale Yankee clubhouse once where most people deferred to him.

One last anecdote about Joe D. He had a reserved table during his playing days at Toot Shor's. His meals and drinks were free. Joe never left a tip.

Again, that's why MLB needs expansion. So there will be more KC's and Oakland's.
