Trivia question:

Who was the last major league player to not wear a helmet? (No fair looking it up)

incorrect

Helping hint: MLB made helmets mandatory for all new players in 1971. Veterans were grandfathered in and were not required to, although most did.

Second hint: this player had connections to the Red Sox

Neither of those is correct, although the Hawk reference reminded me that this player did do some broadcasting.

Final hint:

This player was a Red Sox back-up catcher

The BOSOX ex-players(VAZ & Beni) come back to haunt them, while the BOSOX current players are hardly scary at all.

What are you talking about; there are lots of current Bosox players haunting this team.

More bad D. Casas screws up twice on that play. He had a play at the plate. He had Benintendi dead to rights if he throws to 3rd. He got neither.

Casas ain't the problem. Sox hitting is the big problem. Plus Chicago is hitting Crawford pretty good. Plus yesterday Winck gave up 3 dingers.

Casas had no play at home, but did screw up the throw to get Benintendi.

A lot of hard hit balls against Crawford today

Mostly the last couple innings once his pitch count got up over 60-65. Territory he hasn’t been in this year.

He absolutely had a play at home.

Was anyone telling him where to go with the ball? When I was a kid, the catcher would have that duty. Say nothing, the throw goes through. Cut two, cut three, cut four meant cut the ball of and throw to second, third or home respectively. Cut hold meant just cut the ball off. We didn’t use cut home because it sounded to much like hold.

MLB chUMPIRES give unions a bad name.

Hopefully the league evaluates bad umpires and disciplines them. The home plate umpire has been AWFUL.

Well, since I have to leave for a while, the answer to the trivia question of who was the last MLB player to not wear a helmet is the guy who backed up Pudge Fisk

Bob Montgomery

Who cares? The problem today wasn't the freaking defense, but the lack of hitting.

I looked at a replay, but it didn't show where the runner going home was when Casas got the ball. Suffice it to say, the batter, Beni, got all the way to 3d base on that hit. And the guy on 1b got a huge jump because there were two outs. It would have been unusual if he had not scored on a double in the corner with two men out.

I don't get this team. They have a winning record vs 500+ teams but yet can't beat teams who have a below 500 record.

It’s a bad team. Probably 70-75 wins max by the end of the year. Next year likely won’t be much better but maybe in 2025 we will be relevant again.
