The marginal guys seem to do just enough to give hope that maybe they finally are getting it. JBJr raking on a LH'er. Priceless

If the Sox hold on and Winckowski gets the W, the Sox will have avoided a very strange fate. In July, the sox starters have won exactly 0 games. That’s never happened before for a full month

Wrong. It's happened twice before. In fact, it happened this past April by the Pirates.

I think the play was that it had not occurred in a 31 day month, especially one with an A-S game. With our shutdown pen on the job, this one is over. What's your prognosis on Story now ? Will the wrist heal simply with time ?

The SOX catch a break on their upcoming road trip. They play the Astros 3 times and the Royals 4 times instead of the other way around.

Thank goodness, no Beni in KC ( or Boston)

Actually with the ASB occurring in July that kind of negates the extra day in the month of July. I just realized that. April is also a shorter month regarding games played.

The whole thing is a messed up concept, best ignored. We are winning this one and that's it !!

Yup. But if the SOX attempt to do it again, they should pick August. Preferably not this August, or preferably never.

No lead is ever safe with this bullpen. That 9th inning was one swing from getting a little bit scary!

Yeah, but the scariest part is that management will think they have a chance to get into the playoffs and try to acquire someone rather than flushing this dumpster fire down the toilet.

I'm pretty unhappy with this team too, but they are 1 game below .500 and 3.5 games from getting a wild card.

I agree big buys are not called for, but I also don't see "flushing this dumpster fire down the toilet" as making a whole lot of sense.

Right now, I'm fine with keeping Bogey and Devers and don't see any compelling reason to hang onto other guys--like JDM and Eovaldi--now in their final season.

We have all disparaged Story's OPS, but he was terrific on defense and still leads the team in rbi's, so maybe his absence has affected the Sox ability to win games. Same goes for Devers of course.

The rotation has been a total disaster this season, mostly because of injuries, but the sorry defense didn't help.

Or consider this: the Sox are paying $63M for Sale, Eovaldi, and Price, who together have contributed a combined WAR of +.7. So, if you want to get mad at someone, think about the late, great DD who basically bought that 2018 season using JH's money.

If the sox are going to punt on the season and trade eo, vaz, jd, etc, then I feel it is silly to hang on to xbo unless they are prepared to give him the money he wants.

"The money he wants" is, I believe, subject to negotiation. I have vacillated on this topic because I don't believe in big contracts for the simple reason that they are high risk because all the money is guaranteed and players are, well, human.

Thus to me a $250M contract to retain Bogey, who turns 30 on Oct 1 and whose HR power seems to have left him, is unsupportable. So I think the Sox can keep him for less and probably have that intention.

Apparently, he wants to stay along with Devers, who probably wants $500M, which is also unsupportable and and will likely come down.

In the end, both may leave. Meanwhile, Bloom is saying that he wants to negotiate.

Risky game to play, chancing xbo leaving for just a QO comp pick as opposed to trading him now.
