1. Mikey Romero- he's a premium contact player with enough defensive speed and quick hands to stay as a SS. Right now, he is a minus for power. Question is if he will develop it

Below average arm, probably moves to 2b. The 2nd rounders feature 2 guys with huge power potential.

MLB draft is such a crap shoot, I can't really worry too much about the national rankings. You just gotta go with what your scouts are telling you.

Those national rankings vary wildly from teams boards, and teams boards vary wildly from one another, especially when you get out of the top of the draft.

 

The Sox could very well make their board public and we would be using those rankings instead of BA or PG and Romero might have been ranked 19th by them for all we know.

 

It was also tweeted out that the Sox reportedly believed that other teams in the league also had Romero much higher on their boards than the "national rankings" and didn't think he was going to last until their next pick.

LSU is also loaded with top national SS talent. He might not get a lot of playing time there, maybe or maybe not that influences his decision to sign.
