I can either sit here and watch the Sox or go play golf on a beautiful evening. After last night's debacle, I choose golf. Go Sox. Game will probably still be on when I get home.

Anyone else see who the Jays will be playing this weekend? They get to play what amounts to the Royals minor league all star team.

Beni is among those missing the four game set.

Get the brooms out

Last night was the Sox best chance for a win in this series; the pitching matchups tonight and tomorrow never favored Boston in any way.

More brain dead baseball, this time by Devers. Sorry, but I would bench him to send the team a message.

This is what makes this team unwatchable.

Martinez follows it up with striking out at a ball in the dirt.

More great baserunning by the Sox.

Only four things they don't do well: play defense, hit, pitch, and run the bases. Other than those four, a pretty decent club.

Since that is almost never done and Devers is the absolutely best hitter and overall best player on the Sox, your suggestion makes no sense. Plus it was a great play by the Rays catcher.

Devers would have died at 2nd base anyway. Good pitching beats good hitting; it also beats bad hitting.

You do realize you can only bench 3 guys before you’re out of guys to bench, right?

That was a weird play, the ball hit the turf and backed up like a pro golfer landing a wedge on the green. Not an excuse, but weird.

You CANNOT get thrown out in that situation. EVER.

Cora doesn’t have to bench anyone else. Just one guy. That would send an unmistakable message.

It’s necessary

It wasn't the 1st out and it wasn't the 3rd out. The catcher made a perfect throw. Case closed.

Excuse me, but I need to understand your point. Are you saying that Sox runners should never attempt to advance when there is a wild pitch? And, further, that any player doing so who is thrown out should be benched?

He was already in scoring position. Youk had it right while announcing the play. He said you HAVE TO MAKE SURE you can make it. It was a brain dead play just like Verdugos play last night.

The Sox will be under 500 by end of August 3rd with the schedule. They can't win any series against good teams. Cleveland is s*** now so I wouldn't count them as a good team

You bench people like that and all you’d ever see is advance one base at a time. Never try anything.

Nope. I am saying that in that instance, as Youk said, you have to be sure. And last night as Youk said Verdugo should only be as far off 3B as the third baseman allows.

Two brain dead baserunning plays.

They deserve a response from Cora besides an “atta boy”.

So you are saying you shouldn’t USE YOUR HEAD when choosing to take a base?

You pick on Dugo; you pick on VAZ; but you always defend Zelig.

Yes, I think Dugo needs to ditch that very large and showy necklace during games.

As for Vazquez, you have a point. I hate his baserunning and sometimes his work behind the plate, but his over WAR (1.3) says I'm wrong.

If Youk said Devers was brain dead, he's a freaking idiot. As I recall, he used to throw tantrums now and then.

Do it a lot and I have no problem benching a guy. After one instance, no.

As a player, getting benched after any mistake (and it took a weird hop and a perfect throw to get him) means I’m not going to try anything.

He didn’t use that term. I wrote what he said: that Devers “had to be sure he could make it”.

The TEAM is doing it a lot. You have to make an example of someone to get the team’s attention. Best done with an important player.

I love that expression "you have to make sure" when applying to what has to be an semi-instantaneous decision made on the basepaths.
