Rafael Devers has never been even remotely comparable to Brooks Robinson. His glove is OK, but he simply can't throw the ball and never could--an exaggeration, but not that far off. And this guy is worth $300M?

Of course he's no Brooks Robinson defensively, but I was referring to him only having, I believe, only 4 or 5 errors this season before that damaging error.

Devers has a 300 million dollar bat but a $10 arm

I diasgree; he's improved remarkably this season defensively. I believe that's only his 2nd throwing error of the season, although both were costly.

Orioles shut down the Sox last night, so why not the Reds tonight?

Maybe because the SOX have faced damn good pitching these last two games, but, of course, only SOX starters can be credited with good pitching.

Raffie's making a night of it. First an egregious error that right now has cost the game with an unearned run. Then a patented GIDP to kill a rally with 2 on and nobody out.

The $300M man, indeed.

Well, if Devers doesn't get re-signed, then you can gloat over your post, TROLL.

What does whether or not he gets re-signed have to do with it?

I agree both pitchers have thrown nasty stuff.

A 16-31 team comes in , shows us there best pitcher and we are scuffling. I'm loving the Forum thread arguments over what is more important---good consistent starters or a closer and BP in general.

Now it’s a bullpen game, and the BP will decide who wins, and who loses.

That was Raffie's 6th error, which ties him for 3d most errors by MLB third basemen. My guess is his DWAR will drop to -0.1, which would take him out of the top 20 defensive 3d basemen in MLB.

I agree I'm being hard on him, but he's the guy who insists he is worth $300M to $350M. And don't forget: he gets paid the entire value of any contract no matter how poorly he plays after it's signed by both parties.

Agreed, and there was one poster in here, I forget who, that was claiming devers was a top 3 player in baseball

Let's DFA Devers.

we had a momentum going on and he s*** the bed. if he wants 300 M, he shall perform like a 300 M player.

Ahem. I believe you are on record as saying the only guy who counts in the bullpen--and perhaps on the entire team-- is the closer. This is going to come as a shock to you, but the Sox right now are losing, so first and foremost they need to score runs.

Can't wait for the Sox to finish up the WC road trip in Seattle

Should be fun.

The Mariners have posted five straight quality starts in the most recent turn through the rotation.

When was the last time an MLB club posted five straight quality starts?

Devers has been one of my favorites on this Sox team--for good reason. But my view is altered by his insistence that he be paid more than he can reasonably spend in five lifetimes.

I know nothing about Story's career in Colorado, but I can't help but wonder if he's one of these hitters who gets hot for a while and then goes into a prolonged cold streak. The SOX have had players like that.

My view has not changed due to his contract demands, IMO he was never a top 3 player. Is he very good, certainly, top 3, no way.

I would venture to say every team in baseball has had players like that.

Good to know that there aren't any other ballplayers who have been paid more than they can spend in 5 lifetimes. Devers will be the first.

Actually, it's a "Sox can't hit spit" game. After that it's a "great start by Wacha game." And after that it's "another bonehead Devers error game."

The bullpen is in fourth place in terms of their value toward winning this game.

There are definitely others, and I feel the same way about them.

Story could be the SOX new Napoli.

Agree he's not a top 3 player, but that doesn't mean I don't think he's really good. I just don't think he's worth $300M-$350M.
