Joey Gallo's tenure with the Yankees is at an end. New York has reached an agreement to trade the struggling slugger to the Dodgers for L.A.'s No. 15 prospect, right-hander Clayton Beeter, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Tuesday.

 

I cannot understand why on earth the Dodgers would want Gallo, much less give up any kind of prospect for him.

The Dodgers may be grasping at straws after losing out to San Diego on Soto. Gallo looks.like a guy who has lost all confidence in his ability to hit a baseball. But you never know. He does have power..And there is the old , " change of scenery " thing , etc.

 

I don't see Friedman as the type of GM who would grasp at straws or make a reactionary type move. Still, trading for Gallo is a curious move.

 

Not that the rankings mean much, but while the Padres improved immensely, they are still ranked as the 5th favorite (by whom, I don't know) to win the World Series.

Great job by Cashman as I have read that the dodgers are picking up $4M in gallo's salary as well.

 

I guess the dodgers are hoping for the "change of scenery" thing to kick in.

And would it surprise anyone if he drops 15 bombs in the final two months of the season? The guy was a clear change of scenery player who looked defeated the moment he stepped in the box

I think the intention may have been a 6-out save? Or hope the Yankees add on in the top of the 9th type thing.

It makes little sense. Every time Holmes comes in in the 8th inning, he blows it.

Holmes has certainly done a good job . Perhaps a better job than he is normally capable of doing. This could be a market correction. In any case , bringing your closer in in the 8th inning is something that should not become a habit , tempting as it might be.

A bad weekend for Brian Cashman. Montgomery throws 5-6 innings of shutout ball, gets the win against the Yankees, while Montas and his barking shoulder suck crap on Sunday in his Yankees debut. The Yankees go from Montgomery to Montas and in the meantime lose out on a top pitching prospect in Waldichuk. Cashman had a terrible trade deadline and it is going to cost the Yankees.

He had already cooled off (3 for his last 16, only 1 HR in his last 13 games after 14 in the previous 34 games) so it's not as huge a loss as it would seem. Stanton will be an upgrade at DH when he returns (hopefully by this weekend). But the 2 months he put together during his time can't be undone, and what a 2 months it was: .305/.412/.727 (OPS of 1.138, 2.3 WAR, 216 wRC) with 15 HRs and 37 RBIs over 154 PAs. Pretty good for random pickup.
