Missing the playoffs with this schedule and the expanded college football playoff is unacceptable. It would be one thing to lose to a ranked team late in the season, But Northern Illinois? This team doesn’t deserve it.

I also heavily question the play calling. Why do they not give the ball to Jeremiyah Love more? Scouts rave about him and whenever he touches the ball, good things happen and he only has 28 total touches In 2 games.. he’s scored a touchdown in both games and averaging nearly 7 yards a carry but they don’t use him. I don’t get it

I totally agree. As bad as ND looks, this year, compared to other recent ND teams, they are better than No. Illinois. This is on the coach and QB, IMO.

It sucks that the season looks like a total bummer, after just 2 games. Such is college football.

6 days ago you said ND could finish in the top 2, or 3 this year. There was nothing to suggest then they were going to be a good team this year, and there is nothing to suggest now they are a good team. From top 2, or 3 this year to now a total bummer is quite the flip flop.🤭🙈

N.D. was highly overrated at #5. They are not on the level of the top teams. Riley Leonard is a nice kid, but he doesn't look like a big-time quarterback.  Marcus Freeman is a good guy, loved by his players, but he did not have them ready to play yesterday. The blocking and tackling were very weak. It wasn't a fluke loss. They were outplayed.

Yes, they were outplayed, but I also think they were out-coached/game planned.

Obviously, they were over-rated. I was hopeful they might end up highly ranked due to a relatively easy schedule, compared to the past ones.

I'm not sure what the solution is to fix their program woes. Maybe, it just can't be fixed, as long as they keep the rigorous academic requirements. Not many other can pull it off, either.

Could this be another loss this week for ND? At Purdue, which is an old rival would not be surprising to see them lose. The offense has to do better if ND is to do better.

Not much of a game today, and ND made it look as easy as it can get. That’s the good part. The bad part is that ND lost 2 starting OL where they were inexperienced, and thin at to begin with. Also the Starting QB for ND hasn’t thrown an TD yet 3 games into the season. He can run, but ND will need more than that against the better teams. I saw some comments today calling for Angeli.

ND won 66-7 over Purdue, who is not a good team. Steve Angeli  went 6 for 9 for 100 yrds and 2 TDs. We had two 100 yards runners: Love & leonard. Price ran for 86 yards on 8 carries. The ground game was a mega mismatch: 362 yards to 38 for Purdue.

LSU barely beat South Carolina and Missouri sneaked by 24th ranked BC. It doesn't look like any major shake-ups, this week.

It kinda sucks in college football, when  your team has an early season loss, especially to a bad team.

And to see No. Illinois lose to Buffalo, the wonderment increases even more.

No big upsets, today but #18 Michigan beat #11 USC and #12 Utah beat #14 OKL St. (ND might pass one or both and get to 16th or 15th. Next week, we play #19 Louisville, who may also move up after beating GA Tech 31-19. A win, next week, could put the domers near #12.

I’m not impressed with ND at all, and especially their passing game. That game yesterday was sloppy, and a lot closer than the final score. ND is no top 15 team IMO.

CBS Sports has ND ranked 15th, after yesterday's games, saying their defense is the main reason. They have Louisville 16th, so I guess we will find out, if we are ranked too highly, as we play them this weekend.

These ranking need to be taken with a few grains of salt. I don't see any of the 14th to 19th ranked teams as being easily identified as better than the others.

14 LSU, 15 ND, 16 Louisville, 17 IA St, 18 Clemson, 19 Illinois, 20 OK.

I do think #10 Penn St, 11 Michigan, 12 Utah and 13 USC all look more deserving than ND at being top 15 or making the top 12 list by season's end, but in college football, a lot can happen over a season, including major injuries to teams above you or a change in QB or QB performance level.

I'm not predicting a great season from ND or even a playoff berth, but I'm not so sure that by season's end, ND might be pretty close to the #12 team in the nation. It's not an impossible situation to develop. Just beating Louisville might get us to 12th or 13th, already. That's not to say we can't lose to another bad team, or get blown out by USC, but there is some hope we can improve.

As is, we are not a top 12 team, now. Top 15 is maybe too high- maybe not.

A win is a win, but this one was not very impressive. N.D. does not resemble a top team.

Agreed.

I'm not sure how good the number 12 team is, and teams do improve and get worse as time goes by, but I'd agree that ND does not belong in the top 12, right now.

I'm not sure if 15 is too high or just right, but I would not say it is too low

Coaches Poll has ND 14th and Louisville 17th.

AP has Louisville #15 and ND #16.

Whoever wins might jump to near #12.

Michigan is now #12 with one loss.

Posted

#6 Ole Miss lost to Kentucky. Some other top 20 teams came close to losing, like #12 Michigan 27-24 over Minnesota.

USC and ND are in close games, right now. #2 GA plays #4 AL, later.

#1 Texas won big.

#4 Alabama beat #2 Georgia 41-34

#3 Ohio St beat up on MSU.

#6 Ole Miss lost to KY

#7 MIA FL squeaked by Va Tech

Assuming Oregon wins and Utak comes back to win, tonight, here is my top 15 after week 5:

1. Texas

2. Alabama

3. Ohio St

4. Tennessee

5. Miami FL

6. Penn St.

7. Georgia (1 loss)

8. Oregon

9. Utah

I doubt we see too much movement in the NCAA rankings, this week, unless we see some huge upset.

#24 Texas A & M throttled #9 Missouri, so maybe MO drops from the top 12, but that might be it.

ND has a bye week before playing Stanford, next week. Next week has some top teams playing each other:

#3 Ohio St at #6 Oregon (The loser will likely still be top 12)

#7 Penn St at #11 USC (The loser could drop below #12, esp if USC)

#12 Ole Miss at #13 LSU (The loser will drop below #12)

#2 Texas at #19 Oklahoma (Texas would still be top 12 with a loss.)

Of course, ND needs to win, but they may be ranked ahead of Missouri at #13 before next week. I'm not assuming anything with ND, but we could easily be top 12, after next week.

#11 USC lost to Minnesota. Louisville lost, too. There goes ND's strength of schedule numbers.

#10 Michigan lost to Washington.

Looks like ND might be top 12, this week. (Not sure they can hold a playoff slot.)

More upsets than I expected, yesterday.

#4 TENN lost to Arkansas, too!

1, 4, 9, 10 & 11 all were upset.

#8 MIA nearly blew their game vs California 39-38.

This might be the new top 12 rankings:

1. Texas 5-0

2. Ohio St 5-0

3. Oregon St 5-0

4. Penn St. 5-0

5. Georgia 4-1

6. Alabama 4-1

7. MIami 6-0

8. Tennessee 4-1

9. Ole Miss 5-1

10. LSU 4-1

11. Texas A & M 5-1

12. Notre Dame 4-1

(Close to #11-12: Clemson 4-1, IA St 5-0, BYU 5-0, MO 4-1, OK 4-1, Indiana 6-0)

Looks like there are no sure things in college football this year. All kinds of upsets.

NO super good teams this year, so it should be a wild, and good playoffs.

Some big games, this weekend:

2 Ohio St @ 3 Oregon

1 Texas @ 18 OK

4 Penn St @ USC

9 Ole Miss @ 13 LSU (The winner likely stays in front of or jumps over ND. The loser will be below ND, if ND wins.)

Stanford @ 11 ND

In the season of upsets, trying to predict one is near pointless.

It's interesting to see Indiana still undefeated at 6-0 and having a bye week. They are 18th ranked, but could move up with a few more upsets. Here is this week's schedule:

#2 Ohio St @ #3 Oregon

#1 Texas @ #18 OKL

#4 Penn St @ USC

#9 Ole Miss @ #13 LSU

So Carolina @ 7 ALA, #10 Clemson @ WF, Stanford @ #11 ND, #11 IA St @ WVA

Next week's big games is GA @ TX and ALA @ Tenn

Penn St almost lost at USC.

The domers won big vs Stanford.

Alabama almost lost and #16 Utah lost. It looks like a wide open year.

A few big games still going on. I doubt ND moves up, this week, unless #9 Ole Miss loses to LSU, but then LSU may jump over us.

#2 Ohio St is playing #3 Oregon, but the loser will not be passed by ND. Maybe Florida upsets TN.

My new top 12:

1. Texas (took care of business w Oklahoma.)

2. Oregon (I do not think they are this good.)

3. Penn St. (almost lost at USC)

4. Miami (still no losses)

5. Georgia (first on less team in my rankings)

6. Ohio St. (lost at Oregon)

7. Tennessee (barely beat a bad FLA team in OT)

8. Clemson (easy schedule)

9. Alabama (almost got upset, again)

10. Iowa St (still no losses)

11. LSU (Beat #9 Ole Miss, yesterday)

12. Notre Dame (got it done)

13. Ole Miss

(BYU & IN are still undefeated)
