It looked like 4-5 inches off the zone.

 

Sale looks to be on. That home run was just an outstanding piece of hitting, taking a tough pitch out.

So far I think Sale has mixed locations and pitches and pretty much stayed away from the center of the strike zone. That dinger, as other have said, was away from a lefty hitter who was still able to get it over the green monster.

 

I've griped plenty about Sale, including before this game, but I also think he is thoroughly professional in every aspect of his pitching. So far, I'm impressed with Sale tonight.

 

The lineup, on the other hand, looks like last night's lineup--which in fact it is.

10 straight scoreless innings by this Sox lineup, but of course that's entirely because of that home plate umpire. If we only had robo-umps, the Sox would have scored 10, 20 runs easy.

Any objective person knows that it should’ve been 2 to 2 in the bottom of the 9th. I like the Sox chances then. So yes, Diaz played a huge part in the loss.

It's been said by others but this whole season has featured blow out wins followed by inexplicable shut downs on offense. Very inconsistent.

 

Sale needs another shutdown , so we can get to the top of the lineup again down just one
