MAX, why do you keep defending inept chUMPIRES? Are you just playing the devil's advocate?

No, not that. I just like the job they do and think we are over-reacting to what we see on the TV screen when the rule book shows that the strike zone is actually hard to define because the human body is.

I don't believe inside and outside pitches are defined by the human body.

What would be good is if we had starters that could go 6 innings, so we wouldn’t have to use so many relievers pitch so many innings. Sooner, or later one, or more of these relievers are going to implode. Like Smoltz said the more you use the bigger chance you have of someone blowing up. It only would take one.

You can’t keep pitching 7 guys a night, and sustain the success.

Ahem. Both teams have used 5 pitchers. And it is a fact that in this era of MLB bullpens are crucial.

True.

I remember hearing Bobby Doerr once say that if a chUMP called a strike on Ted Williams, Ted would turn his neck and look at the chUMP and the chUMP would know he made the wrong call. In today's game, Ted would get whiplash.

What do you want bet the Astros use 7 pitchers tonight?

The only way this team will win this series is by getting pitching and right now it has stunk badly.

Giving up 3 runs in 6 innings to the Astros is hardly stinking.

I doubt it. Umps are much better today than back in Ted's era simply because they use those rectangles to teach/train the strike zone.

Relievers are like a box of chocolate; one never knows what you're gonna get.

Unless the relievers pitch for the Astros, in which case the chocolates are all pretty doggone good.
